I thought all areas had it in the water now? I used normal toothpaste on both of mine right from the start.

Kid's toothpaste is awful. Has less flouride in it for starters than adults. We used it with our daughter and she needed fillings. Used normal with our son and he doesn't need any.

Childrens toothpaste does have flouride in it but usually only between 1/3 and 1/2 the amount that adult toothpaste does. This is because children tend to swallow toothpaste and swallowing large amounts of adult toothpaste in areas where the water is also fluoridated can lead to flourosis of the permanent teeth (mottled and discoloured areas on the adult teeth)

Tooth decay prevention is more reliant on diet than toothbrushing.

There is a 'fluoride plus' version of the Milk Teeth toothpaste. I was given the first tube of it at a health day at a local doctors, before that I had no idea it wasn't in our water. Since then I've found it at places like Savers or Home Bargains. (Though I bought loads when I saw it, so no idea if they still have it).

Yes can be got on prescription but again depends on whether or not the water in your area is flouridated. Ask advice from your dentist

    Hi
I went to a toddler group the other week and there was a woman there, i can only describe her as a tooth adviser, she told me that i should use adults toothpaste on DS as in our area we have no flouride in our water, she said chldrens toothpaste doesnt have flouride in as some places put it in the water, i never knew that and just thought i'd pass the info on x

Its the same here in east Lancs - I've been told to use adult toothpaste on DS when his teeth start to appear as we don't have flouride in the water.

I always used adult toothpaste as the little one used to spit out the horrid tasting kids versions of them so adult it was and he happily cleans them now...xxx

  • Hi

This is a question for Toothsmith and Teerah please.

Is using bicarb to clean your teeth a bad idea? Would it harm the enamel in any way.

    Many thanks

    Sue
