Belles wrote:Hi any help on this would be appreciated!
I was told by my dentist to use duraphat toothpaste, (which of course they sell!!) but I cant' find it anywhere else to buy, it's about a fiver a tube which is a bit costly for me!!
If anyone knows where I could buy this cheaper I would be really grateful! In fact if anyone knows of where I could buy it other than my dentist (who is 200 miles away - don't ask!) I would be very grateful!!!!

So a 400 mile round trip to the dentist will cost you £40 in petrol alone! Never mind wear & tear and the time it takes.
Have you ever considered what would happen if you needed a treatment that took a few visits? Or if you had an emergency?
I would seriously look at finding somewhere closer to home. Even privately, it would soon work out cheaper. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Whats so good about this toothpaste, I have never heard of it?0

It's much higher in fluoride than 'normal' toothpastes.
Good for people with diet 'issues' whose teeth are rotting away at a rate of knots yet they can't give up the pop, or people with quite sensitve teeth which Sensodyne hasn't helped.
Really only should be used on professional recommendation though, and shouldn't be available 'over the counter'. Not sure how the web sites get round this, but they do!How to find a dentist.

Probably as good a place as any to ask this. I bought a tub of Eucramyl, which is a powder to be used 1 or 2 times a week. I realise it is abrasive, but is there any other effect I need to know about?0

Isn't the fact that it's abrasive enough?

Oh, I am wondering if this is the stuff my dentist told me about yesterday. My daughter grinds her teeth a lot and her back ones are wearing down. Dentist put a coating on but said to buy some toothpaste for sensitive teeth that helps to protect/build up the enamel. I thought she said it was made by Sensodyne but as I was still recovering from a nasty experience with some petrol at the time it is possible the fumes had affected my brain....
btw, my sister in law used to travel from Tavistock in Devon to Hungerford in Berkshire to see her dentist. She would fit it around visits to family. I thought she must hold the record at 175 miles (350 round trip) but obviously not.Ellie

Hi Ellie, no I think you are talking about a different toothpaste which as you rightly say is made by sensodyne. It is called "pronamel" and is recommended to help deal with dietary erosion of the teeth. It is fairly new and available in shops. It wont repair them back to where they were before though.0

duraphat toothpaste is a prescription only medicine and i believe that you can only buy it from the dentist directly. it should say POM on the side of the box/tube, could you not get your dentist to write you a prescription for a couple of tubes and then post it out to you? cheaper than a 400 mile trip0
