Small Edison screw were full price, although may be worth a trip to the scanner....my store only has broken scanners!

  • DW tried to buy some this morning at our local Tesco. They were the SES type fittings which were the only ones with the 1p labels. Although they were marked as 1p, they scanned as £2.27. The cashier said the nightshift workers had put the 1p labels on the wrong bulbs and that lots of customers were taking them to the tills only to find that they scan at £2.27 and the transactions had to be voided at the tills. DW wasn't sure if this was correct but didn't have time to look into it any further (baby was getting impatient) so we ended up without any which is a shame.

Went to Tesco Extra this am - no sels showing 1p, and after checking about 20 diff type bulbs ( all the 6 yr ones) none scanned at 1p.
Was about to think it had been duff info by op, when FINALLY one bulb scanned at 1p.
Tried the whole display ( took ages) but only the one type at 1p.

Tonight tried another store and NONE scanned at 1p !!

I will make a note of the bar codes other have had success with, but I can only assume that either ALL Tescos have not reduced the prices yet (wouldn't be the first time items scan at totally different prices in neighbouring stores) or that the 1p ones have been kept off the shelves in my stores

I wish, even though I bought 41, I have inserted 23 lightbulbs around the house this morning (its a tiny 4 bed newbuild) but I have 6 lightbulbs in the lounge pendant ceiling thingy alone, the rest I have given to my mother, sister and a couple to my elderly neighbour, cause she baked me a cake as I went and collected her bin as it blew down the street on Wednesday in the high winds.

Who on earth would need 41!!! unless you have a v big house, or a car boot habit...i didnt get any anyways cos i get all mine free

I wish people would read before making comments on who needs 41, I answered that question in another post...I haven't taken them all for myself, I bought some for my mother (who has had a stroke and has limited mobility),my sister, cause she is on a low income and my elderly neighbour to return a favour...BTW I get some free also from British Gas, I give them away too.I'm not flogging them on E-Bay, I'm simply helping others out who can't get into town!.

This is MSE after all, if you find something of real use at a utterly cheap price then of course I'm going to fill the trolley up.

    Rant over.

Read about this offer on Wednesday night and forgot all about it on Thursday until I popped into a Tesco (on the way back from the cinema) for something else about 9pm and there was a large cage (4 feet square & about 3 feet deep) just inside the main entrance with a large signs on the sides - ALL BULBS 1p

    Sadly it was EMPTY !

Went to another Tesco less than a mile away at 10pm - NO Cage - no sign of the offer.

Found the lightbulb aisle - loads of every sort, every fitting, every wattage all sitting neatly behind apparently full price SELs.

Grabbed a selection of "6 year" ones and found a price check scanner. Whilst some of the "speciality" ones were full price, I found 9 varieties at 1p.

Back to the aisle and selected up to about 10 of each sort. No problems at the till, no queries over quantites

Anyway spent 80p (less a 30p coupon) on these energy saving lamps - 80 of them for 50p :rotfl: - includes BC, ES and SES fittings, 6w, 9w, 11w and 20w lamps, most of them "stick types" but also got some "spiral tube" ones - higher light output for a very small profile (fits some light fittings that the "normal" ones don't)

And YES, some SES (Small Edison Screw) ones do scan correctly at ONLY 1p (these fit some of my aquariums)
