loss of benefits for Disabled Son

Hello,
Trying again to see If I can get any advise from any-one put my question on another forum by Mistake I am not very good on Computers.
Any-way I have a Disabled Son who will be 18 In April he is due to leave his special school and start at a local day centre.
Have found out we will lose over £800.00 per Month In benefits this being child benefit Ema and child and working Tax credit.
I have been told by tax credit that i will only qualify for credits if i now go and work over 30 hours per week bit difficult when i look after a son with severe disabilities.
I do not qualify for ICA as my part-time work earns me a little over what you can earn.
Basically we are getting penalised for my son becoming a adult, as all he will be entitled to is IB and obviously he will still keep his high rate DLA.
Hoping some-one can advise If there is anything else I may be entitled to.
Many Thanks

Is their not a way that he could continue some education? As that might be of benefit to him and then he would still be eligible as a child for another 1/2 years.
Otherwise, IB and DLA for him. Plus their grants you can get for household adaptations etc. If you earn under £96 a week you may be entitled to carer's allowance too.No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -

You are not being penalised because he will be an adult. You have been well supported financially whilst he was growing up to enable him to be cared for within his loving family.0 -

Surely they will still need the same amount of financial support no matter his age?
I find some of the replies on here a bit harsh tbh0 -

Hence why he will get IB and high rate DLA
What more benefits should he/she or anyone be entitled to?
CB and CTC are for CHILDREN. Every parent in the country will lose them at some stage.
Why should this case be any different?0 -
Well Thanks for all the emails, I have been well looked after Financially I think was one reply.!
He Is my Son who Is loved dearly My point was.
If you look after some-one with the complex needs that my son has you do not get a extra allowance when they reach adulthood for the extras they need, As he has double Incontinence what about the extra bedding and washing we have .
As I stated I do work and I am not entitled to ICA as I earn over the limet allowed yet I still look after My son for over 35 hours a week.
As for the comment rather sarcastically put I thought (what did I think would happen to CB AND Tax credit when he reached 18).I was well aware these would stop but thought I could have claimed something else.
Also I am well aware of the fact I claim now In my sons own right. Only came on for advise not for Sarcastic Comments from People who Obviously Have no idea what the cost Involves are for looking after a disabled person.0 -
try posting your query on the forums of this Welfare Rights Site click on 'Message Board' on the red/brown bar that runs across the top of the page
I'm not sure you will be entitled to anything else, but they should be able to clarify the situation for you
good luck0 -
Dont you get carers allowance?0

I can see where the OP is coming from, other teens who reach the age of 18 can go out and get a job to help with money coming in the home ~ OP's son can't.
Nothing has changed at all apart from his age ~ obviously OP cannot claim CB and CTC anymore, but she would still have the same outgoings wouldn't she and now her income has dropped by a very large figure.
If you are unsure of what you can claim now your son is 18, I'm sure if you ring the benefits agency, they will be able to tell you

You'll not be entitled to anything and he will have to claim for what he gets in his own rights.
You're not being penalised for him becoming an adult and I find it ludicrous that you can say that. !!!!!! did you expect was going to happen to CB and CTC when he hit 18?
Whats with the !!!!!! comment.
The OP asked a question and the tone of your reply is disgusting.
As the mother of a severely disabled son i can sympathise with the OP.
My son is only 10 atm but when he reaches 18 i will be in the same position.
Good luck to the OP.0
