we are hoping to change some cash into euros this friday would really like to get the best deal. the best I found so far is 1.145 anyone seen any better?

As Foxmeister said, i usually take sterling over and change it abroad. You do generally get a better rate. BUT take note of commission charges abroad and ask how many euros x amount of sterling will get you cos their price boards dont always include commission and or charges.

Always find it handy to have a few euros on me when i arrive though.

Where are these rates available to get euros changed? I only ask as I've checked a few other websites and they offer a lower rate than what's been mentioned on this thread over the last few days.

Thats the actual exchange rate, the currency dealers who sell us Euros work off this as they are buying seious amounts. They then sell on to us at slightly reduced rate (if you go to the right places) to make their profit.

thats the best way I can explain it, hopefully one the more knowlegable members will explain it better if neccesary.

09:44 11Jun09 Sterling extends gains after UK price expectation data

LONDON, June 11 - Sterling extended gains on Thursday, climbing to the day's high against the dollar and scaling its strongest versus the euro this year after a UK inflation poll showed prices are seen rising for the year ahead.

The Bank of England/GfK NOP Inflation Attitudes Survey showed British inflation expectations for the coming year rose to 2.4 percent in May from 2.1 percent in February, the first rise since August [ID:nBOE001902].

Sterling climbed as high as $1.6455 after the announcement from around $1.6415 beforehand. It rose roughly half a percent on the day to a session high.

The pound also extended its climb against the euro <EURGBP=R> following the release, pushing the single European currency down as low as 85.19 pence according to Reuters data, its lowest since December 2008.
