I think you're being really harsh on IKEA.
After all you didn't get there until really late knowing they were having what must have been their biggest ever sale and then complained cos what you wanted was sold out.
It's like me turning up at Tesco one hour before closing and expecting their shelves to be brimming with goods.

Not really. I would have accepted three other alternatives, none of which they had all of the components for (I wanted a child's bed). Some of the models they had all the components except the slatted base. Others they had everything except a compatible mattress. If their website stock checker gets it's information from the EPOS then either the system is woefully inaccurate or they have a huge amount of stock walking out of the back door unaccounted for. It's not rocket science.

I didn't get there until 11pm because I was at work. My bad for working I guess.

    Hi

Went to Belfast last night at 9.45pm - no problems. Because of stupid trading laws here if you werent thru till by midnight they couldnt complete transaction - we got thru at 11.30 and the charming assistant told me they were going to give vouchers to anyone left in queue ( very nice I thought since they started announcing at 10pm about the midnight rule)

Anyways I digress - bought a rug - sofas have been ordered but not yet arrived (from another company) Obviously I will only know the rug is perfect when I can look at entire room fully furnished and therefore have to open rug packaging. Last night I noticed they will give full refund but if package opened this is reduced by 30%.

Does anyone have experience of this? If I keep packaging and get rug back into it but with obvious open - will I get charged 30%

    Thanks in advance

    RMC

I have worked on Returns, it basically comes down to, can it be resold at full price?

If you carefully open it and roll it back up and put it back in the bag with the barcode on the outside and tape it up neatly then you'll have no issue.

You have to ask yourself, would you buy it? I know if there is a pile of goods, all neatly packed except one which has been shoved back in (Curtains are worst - rugs are quite easy) I would pick up a pristine one!

This is why it's always worth a look in bargain corner, people bring back curtains not neatly wrapped, they get 70% back and they go in bargain corner reduced by 30% - Brand new item with crap packaging cheaper!

Kind of expected them to have extra stock in. It's not like the warehouse is small.

they did, they had pallets upon pallets of extra stock that was being put out all day and when I was there around 9.00 pm they were bringing down the stock from the top of the shelves on several rows in the warehouse.

They even topped up the orchids as the ones in the evening were nicer than the ones that were out in the morning and I bought two :D

Went to the Glasgow store in the afternoon which was really busy, although reasonably easy to get through if you knew the layout of the store well. Got a pile of extra shelves for my Billy bookcases and some addons for a Galant desk. Got a reduction of about £35 which was very nice.

It was nice to see every checkout in a store actually working, meaning the ques were no more than about three people at any one time (when I was there). The parking was a bit all over the place, we ended up in the coach park. Police were out directing the traffic and some others were over parking in the old B&Q carpark over the road.

Is anyone else having real problems finding the larger oak Jarpen shelves in stock, I've been in every couple of weeks for four months now and nobody can say when more are coming in. I'm only looking for the one finish my Ikea kitchen.

Never trust the stock checker! It's our biggest nightmare to be honest. If a location can hold 32 billy bookcases and we have another 32 up in the rackings then we have 64 on site. The 32 sell out, we still have 32 but they cannot be accessed because they;re in the rackings and H&S say we cannot have fork lifts out when open. The online checker would still say it's in stock because as far as it's aware it still has 32!!

The most popular items were brought down from the rackings and put in the loading bay, the loading bay was bursting with stock which was brought out when the items sold out in the locations, the loading bay is only small and so doesn;t hold much extra stock! The warehouse is massive but we cannot get to the stock above!! Newer stores like Ashton have backfed ailes where there is space for a truck to go between the ailes and drop the stock from the back but not ailes have this!

Thanks for that explanation. Someone on this thread kindly suggested the online stock checker when I said I was going late in the day and it sounded a great idea on the face of it. I should have known it was a little too good to be true!

I had a rather adventurous day!

I had planned to go to Alton Towers on Saturday as I had saved the tokens in the Sun newspaper and the two tickets I got were for Saturday 19th April.

When I saw that the Ikea sale was also the 19th April I was in a bit of a dilemma because I had planned to go there at some point because I have been setting up my own office for my business.

In the end the cunning plan was to drive from Norfolk to Alton Towers (2.5 hours), spend the day in Alton Towers, then leave there at 5pm and travel home stopping at the Ikea store in Nottingham which only added about 25 miles onto the return journey.

Managed to save £60 at Ikea because of the sale, and had a day out in Alton Towers for free as well (apart from the cost of the petrol). All in all, a very good moneysaving day I thought!!!

Furthermore, got home to find a letter from Halifax to inform me that my PPI reclaim would be going into my bank account within 5 days and the total amount I would be getting would be £440 when I was only expecting £324 so I am very pleased.

I think actually a lot of stock that would show up as instock would have been trundling round on people's trolleys as it won't come off stock until it goes through the tills.

I had this exact experience yesterday, stock said 4 or 5 but shelf was empty.

What a nightmare! Got to Ashton at 11pm straight from work. Couldn't get my first, second, third or even fourth choice of child's bed. They had 3 parts out of 4 for most, located at four different corners of the warehouse. Spent an hour running round the warehouse picking up parts of beds to discover at the last hurdle they didn't have some essential part. In the end I dumped the lot and left. That was after using the online stock checker too.

    Not good Ikea!

I was going to buy a bed full price but won't on principle now. I wonder how much they'll lose from lost sales in the future to ex customers like me?

    Is this a wind up?

It was a 21% discount off of everything in store (apart from alcohol in food shop) - is it such a surprise that 1 hour before they closed they had run out of stock of some things?

I must say the staff were really helpful. The annoying part was that the online stock checker should have been taken off the website for the day. I checked it just before I left work and it said the item I wanted was in stock. I phoned my husband from the store and he checked the Ikea website - it was still showing in stock.

The warehouse was a nightmare. I take my hat off to the staff, I wouldn't have fancied working there on Monday. I felt much better after I got in the car and screamed "I hate Ikea!!"

I'm sure you saw this on the stock-checker then...
The information provided is an indication only because stock levels are constantly changing as customers take products off the shelves in our stores.
