    Is this a wind up?

It was a 21% discount off of everything in store (apart from alcohol in food shop) - is it such a surprise that 1 hour before they closed they had run out of stock of some things?

    MP

Ordered at 3pm they told be to come back in 3 hours. Came back, waited another 2 hours only to be told they were out of stock. Got a refund and a piece of paper that apparently allows me to get it at 21% discount another day when it is in stock.

Pocoyo, you are being a bit harsh and unreasonable, I know its disheartening when you are looking forward to buying something and then it is not in stock but you did go at 11pm!!

I went back to Ashton at 5pm (after going at 6am and deciding I wanted a desk but didn't NEED it, but then getting home and deciding I had to have it  ) and stock checked the desk and the chair before getting there - all items showing in stock...

They had the desk in, and the seat for the chair but not the wheely bit for the bottom (annoyingly, they had a full box when I had been there that morning! :rotfl: ) Looking above on the display it looked like there was another box of them up there but knowing the staff were run off their feet, and also that they might only be able to get up there when the place is closed, I just decided to leave it. I know i'll miss the discount but its one of those things - my own fault for not picking it up at 6am I suppose!

I am sitting at my lovely new desk at the moment - going to have to pick up the bottom for the chair tomorrow though so sitting on a dining room chair for now! :j

Because I went back for the second time after 11am, I could also get a few cans of Kopparberg  not on offer, but still good :p

    Meatballs for tea tonight too!

I posted a similar opinion earlier.
I use to work in a shop and if I was given £1 everytime an irate unreasonable customer said they would never step foot in the store again and DIDN'T I wouldn't have to use MSE:D
I say well done to all the staff in IKEA in Wembley for their excellent service and a special mention to the SA who ran after me to advise me not to use the lift but leave my goods with him and go and drive my car to the loading bay. He shaved about an hour off my stay there!
Third time lucky on WW I hope :j

got to lakeside ikea at 6.15am thought wow car park half empty!!!!!!! walked around the shop and it wasnt at all busy UNTILL i got to the kitchen queue at about 6.30am joined the queue which was out of the kitchen area....
7 hours later i ordered my kitchen... i ached all over from standing and my head throbbed (they did bring around water and dime bars) then it took another 2 hours to pick out the kitchen from warehouse when we ordered it they said all in stock when we got to warehouse it wasnt there was 17 items missing! information said it was on the shelves so hunted the whole shop out for it but by this time 10 hours later was truly fed up so luckly a nice lady called claire arranged for it to be delievered...for discount price of £20 should have been £80
checked by bill today they have overchared by £80.00
opened a ikea credit card got £140 in vouchers which we used that day will pay off when bill comes
    in all saved £650.00
so worth 10 hours in ikea!

Maybe useful info for people in future..

The only things you can't buy when bits aren't available are things that come in boxes marked x of y (i.e. 1 of 3 etc)

Many things (like kitchen) are actually just a composition of various standard parts.

As for the service, despit such a busy day, I think 99.99% of staff showed tremendeous customer service.
So much so, that despite being initially overcharged £300 when I went through the tills, the way it was so quickly sorted (for the number of items -receipt was nearly a metre long!) I have made a mention on the 5* customer service board on vent, bent and heaven sent section.

BTW (as everyone is sharing lol) set out from home 12:30 (usually takes 30-40 mins) queued in trafic so didn't arrive at Ashton store until 14:30, came out the tills first time at about 18:30, sorted overcharges out by 19:00 and decided to go around again at about 19:30, tills again at 22:00 and then out for 22:30 (and till queues still stretched way back into the store)

    Well done Ikea people!

 I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

I think people are missing the point here. When I was physically in the Ikea store the staff at the information point were telling me in person from their live system that certain items were in stock and yet there were none on the shelves. That is some hopeless stock control system. The staff were really trying to be helpful but either their computer system is beyond hopeless or as I said before they are hemorrhaging stock out the back door.

I did not see the disclaimer on the stock checker online, no doubt it is in very small print near the bottom of the page.

Believe me, there are some stores I have never set foot in again on principle and Ikea is now one of them. If I had walked out after establishing my first choice was out of stock I would have been disappointed but not annoyed. The annoying part was chasing around the warehouse for phantom stock that was supposedly on the shelves.
  • I was on some kind of mission yesterday, got to croydon at 5.30am, about 80th in to the store and about 8th in the queue for kitchens, poor couple in front came up from brighton and forgot to upload their plans. Got kitchen sorted and then went home about 10am after a nice brekkie.

Went back again at 8.30pm to get an oven and other bits for the kitchen. Given a 21% voucher for the kitchen then went and loaded up with handles for the doors. Thought I'd get some trim to finish off the kitchen I had ordered.

Progressed through the tills, got home and then realised I had left the trim at the tills. Unfortunately not shown up today so 30 quid down the drain. Still can't complain, I saved ove 800 quid there yesterday.

So, maybe you can suggest a retailer that can keep track of stock that is on a customers trolley walking around the store?

That would be some impressive technology would it not?!?

Thanks to all the nice customers at Leeds, us guys in Self Serve/Loading Bay did everything we could to get stock out and on sale, and considering we are the smallest store in the UK, we held our own (6th out of 17). And for all those customers who got heated about stock been gone at 8pm and later, what did you really expect?

Sounds like the majority of Moneysavers had a succesful day (and it seems that those people who went in advance to plan their trip had the best time of all). Congrats go to the Ikea staff who seem to have, on the whole, done such a good job in good spirits, and well done to everyone for their savings, no matter how small.

Well I braved the Belfast store around 8.30pm. My friend never got parts of the bed earlier she bought and wanted to check if they were back in.

Car park just like a normal day, got a good space close to the lifts. No queues to get in and walking around upstairs was easy peasy lol Restaurant was emptyish too, plenty of tables. I have seen it worse.

then we went downstairs to the market hall, it was busy but just like a normal day. Come the self serve area, that was busy, no trolleys had to wait on them, not long though. Got some of the items my friend needed but not all.

Then the horror of the till queues, why oh why were 8 tills out of 25 open?? We queued from 10.55pm until 11.50 to get served. There were constant announcements saying the store was closing at 12 and due to legistation they could not serve anyone after 12!!! Now what happened to the customers behind us in the queue I dont know as they would have had a bit of a riot on their hand if they didn't get served after queuing for so long. :rotfl: I would love to know if they served everyone or sent them away!!! (I do know some supermarkets serve after 6pm on a sunday to get all the customers through)

But all in all it was no where near as bad as I had thought, any staff we needed were helpful:T

Best of all I bought some items....did I need them nah just because they had 21% off :rotfl:  :rotfl:
