What a nightmare! Got to Ashton at 11pm straight from work. Couldn't get my first, second, third or even fourth choice of child's bed. They had 3 parts out of 4 for most, located at four different corners of the warehouse. Spent an hour running round the warehouse picking up parts of beds to discover at the last hurdle they didn't have some essential part. In the end I dumped the lot and left. That was after using the online stock checker too.

    Not good Ikea!

I was going to buy a bed full price but won't on principle now. I wonder how much they'll lose from lost sales in the future to ex customers like me?

I'm sorry you didn't get the items you wanted. I work at Ashton and we did all we can to ensure customers got what they wanted but on some items it just was not possible. You have to remember that the store had already been trading for 17 hours before you got there and a lot of items would be sold out.

I had a lady arguing with me that she wanted to come back another day to get a sold out product at the discounted price but I wasn't budging. It's not fair to do it for one person as many people were in the same boat, she did say she would go to trading standards but the T&C's as always cover us with "Subject to availability"

Didn't leave the store until three am and the final count at 12.10am was £17,870,216.00 - Thanks to all our customers, it was a truly amazing day and thanks for your patience, the queues were pretty mental all day :) WE DID OUR BEST

Based on the comments about traffic later in the day I'm glad I went early. Got to Edmonton about 5:45 (live only a few minutes away that time of day). Maybe 30-50 people ahead of me but loads more arrived before 6. Having done my recce on Thursday, straight in, up the escalator, back down to the marketplace, shortcut to bedding section, grabbed 2 Gosa pillows, shortcut to the garden-centre sort of area, trolley, Billy aisle, grabbed 8 doors...to the tills. First one of the day for her, receipt timed at 6:14. Done. :) Savings of about £46. Not massive, but enough that it was worth getting up for I think.

My only regret really is that it was nowhere near as busy as I expected and I could have dawdled a lot more I think...but had I done so I would likely have bought loads that I didn't really need just because it was on sale.

And I was there early, but I can say that the employees were so friendly - everyone was saying good morning and smiling and it was just a very nice atmosphere.

I agree with those who say it was their most enjoyable IKEA visit ever.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

I must say the staff were really helpful. The annoying part was that the online stock checker should have been taken off the website for the day. I checked it just before I left work and it said the item I wanted was in stock. I phoned my husband from the store and he checked the Ikea website - it was still showing in stock.

The warehouse was a nightmare. I take my hat off to the staff, I wouldn't have fancied working there on Monday. I felt much better after I got in the car and screamed "I hate Ikea!!"

Very few I'd say if you read all the positive posts in this thread. I'd imagine going so late in the day you could have expected a fair number of items to have sold out? I certainly did when I went back at 9.00pm to collect something I had to leave their early in the morning and all of the staff were working like trojans getting stock on to the shelves and the shop floor and were still very cheerful and polite and very helpful despite having worked 12 hour shifts.

Kind of expected them to have extra stock in. It's not like the warehouse is small.

I think you're being really harsh on IKEA.
After all you didn't get there until really late knowing they were having what must have been their biggest ever sale and then complained cos what you wanted was sold out.
It's like me turning up at Tesco one hour before closing and expecting their shelves to be brimming with goods.

    Hi

Went to Belfast last night at 9.45pm - no problems. Because of stupid trading laws here if you werent thru till by midnight they couldnt complete transaction - we got thru at 11.30 and the charming assistant told me they were going to give vouchers to anyone left in queue ( very nice I thought since they started announcing at 10pm about the midnight rule)

Anyways I digress - bought a rug - sofas have been ordered but not yet arrived (from another company) Obviously I will only know the rug is perfect when I can look at entire room fully furnished and therefore have to open rug packaging. Last night I noticed they will give full refund but if package opened this is reduced by 30%.

Does anyone have experience of this? If I keep packaging and get rug back into it but with obvious open - will I get charged 30%

    Thanks in advance

My friend use to work at IKEA and she said they will try and charge you the 30% unless you kick up a fuss. So see how it goes and if need be but on your outrage customer hat.
Hopefully you wont be needing it!
    Good luck

Never trust the stock checker! It's our biggest nightmare to be honest. If a location can hold 32 billy bookcases and we have another 32 up in the rackings then we have 64 on site. The 32 sell out, we still have 32 but they cannot be accessed because they;re in the rackings and H&S say we cannot have fork lifts out when open. The online checker would still say it's in stock because as far as it's aware it still has 32!!

The most popular items were brought down from the rackings and put in the loading bay, the loading bay was bursting with stock which was brought out when the items sold out in the locations, the loading bay is only small and so doesn;t hold much extra stock! The warehouse is massive but we cannot get to the stock above!! Newer stores like Ashton have backfed ailes where there is space for a truck to go between the ailes and drop the stock from the back but not ailes have this!

    Leeds was a nightmare!

Waited over 4 hours to get my stuff from the warehouse, some people had waited 6/7 hours!!!!! What a joke. Staff were loosing their temper and so was I. After going nuts and causing a scene I got my stuff 30 seconds later. Amazing!

I know it's easy to make comments about fixing the problem when all we're doing is waiting for our stuff but a good word of advise - Your customers aren't idiots and if you tell them the TRUTH then they won't go crazy like I did. It was one lie too many that tipped me over the edge.

Be honest, say you f'ct up and tell us how you're planning to solve the situation then communicate on a regular basis how your getting on.

I'm just about to go and open the boxes now to see if I got what I ordered.......

I think you were there at the same time as me - do you have fairly long hair and were wearing a black jacket??

I'd paid for my kitchen at 8.30am, was still waiting at 10.30 so went home for a few hours and went back to pick it up about 4.30pm - still had to wait for a quite a while as there was so many people fighting for the staff's attention and trying to storm the warehouse.

I was prepared for the wait though - thought it would be manic but wasn't as bad as I thought when I got there at 7am -people were being very patient in the morning but at that time, they would all have been prepared for the sale - lot lot worse in the afternoon when people went expecting a normal saturday afternoon.
Was worst if you had to wait for a large items from the external warehouse (or a small item - there was a man who sounded like he'd won the lottery when he finally got his mirror after a few hours wait! made everyone else smile anyway). They actually shut the collection point about 3pm as they couldn't cope with the orders they had already.

Big well done to the Ikea staff - apart from the ones in the collection point who had been pushed to breaking point (and they were trying their best in very difficult circumstances), they were all really cheerful and helpful, a lot more than I would have been, getting up early and coping with all those customers! Although it sounds like some stores were more prepared than others
