One thing that surprises me is how smooth ikea shopping is when everyone makes a proper effort....this was probably my best ikea experience-and all because staff were going to get bigger bonus' depending on how well their store performed....hmmm

Have to disagree with you on that point. I've just finished my 16hr shift at IKEA, and although I agree that the stores ran (generally) very smoothly today I honestly don't believe this was motivated by bonuses... (infact larger discounts for us, and not hard cash)...

The fact that that there was a 'party' atmosphere for co-workers, customers behaved themselves, and extended opening hours eased what would otherwise be a very congested day, made the whole experience for everyone far more comfortable for everyone.

Agreed that IKEA did well today but to say it was motivated by more money for staff is, generally speaking, simply untrue.

Whatever the reason I think we should all congratulate IKEA and all their staff - it was a really good day, very well organised in the store I went to, and everything ran really smoothly. Well done to you all. :T :T :T

Went to Coventry store. Got there about 6:30. Had about an hour's wait whilst they tried to find out where the kitchen vouchers were. Then went and had my free breakfast.

Next went to order my sofa, and had a short wait in a queue whilst the found someone who could actually authorise the 21% discount on orders on sofas, but with two of them there the queue started going down more quickly.

Popped down and picked up a couple of bits and pieces then went to the checkouts. All tills were open, and there were only a few people in front of me in the queue.

All in all a very civilised experience. All staff were friendly, and everyone in the few queues I did wait in seemed to be enjoying it and having a laugh at the few hiccoughs that did happen.

The store actually seemed pretty deserted, quieter than other Saturday's I've been there. The only real difference was that everyone there was buying things, so the queues for ordering and paying were a bit longer.

So glad I didn't need to take anything for home delivery though, that queue looked like the killer.

Fantastic, arrived Ikea about 5.15pm, found parking place straight away, went straight to kitchen planning and was seen straight away, planned kitchen, booked home delivery (approx 3 months - suits us as haven't built extension yet!), straight through checkout but had to wait 1 and a half hours to collect my ironing board!!! Saved £440  :money:

Wouldn't have bothered but offered to take a friend who had to wait in same queue to collect all her things and found out in the end that some were not in stock (or couldn't be found) so she is getting free delivery on these items............

think all staff were fantastic but feel sorry for the ones at the collection point! WELL DONE :T

Better get cracking with the extension.............

What a nightmare! Got to Ashton at 11pm straight from work. Couldn't get my first, second, third or even fourth choice of child's bed. They had 3 parts out of 4 for most, located at four different corners of the warehouse. Spent an hour running round the warehouse picking up parts of beds to discover at the last hurdle they didn't have some essential part. In the end I dumped the lot and left. That was after using the online stock checker too.

    Not good Ikea!

I was going to buy a bed full price but won't on principle now. I wonder how much they'll lose from lost sales in the future to ex customers like me?

Hi all, my husband and i have just bought our 1st home and the kitchen is pretty nasty, if anyone has a spare kitchen voucher they won't use we would be really grateful if you could pass it our way as we could really do with saving a few pounds if we can.
Obviously i would cover postage costs.
The vouchers are filled out with your details and signed by a member of staff. In the stub that they kept they filled in the style of kitchen you were looking at. Unless you can find somebody with your name and happy to accept their choice of units, I doubt you'll have much luck.

That said, one guy's giving it a go on eBay...

hi I also went to Ashton but at 10.00am I parked with ease and had breakfast with my mother and son. I ws buying a bed for my son. I picked the bed with ease as can with a leaflet on what parts I would need to get and what isles they were all on (great idea) went downstairs and paid job was a good on.
Sorry you did not get your bed but I bet they had been rammed all day with customers as ikea never have sales I would think by 11pm we would have striped their shelves bare.

Very few I'd say if you read all the positive posts in this thread. I'd imagine going so late in the day you could have expected a fair number of items to have sold out? I certainly did when I went back at 9.00pm to collect something I had to leave there early in the morning and all of the staff were working like trojans getting stock on to the shelves and the shop floor and were still very cheerful and polite and very helpful despite having worked 12 hour shifts.

we went to wednesbury - got there about noonish - got home after 9pm!!!!
planned to get wardrobes for home delivery and didn't realise we still had to pick up all the blooming things and take them to the home delivery dept. By the time we got down to get the items, hardly anything left! then found out that we could go back upstairs, requeue and get them delivered directly from warehouse to get the dis!!!! today - will take 4-8 weeks! Then spent more than TWO HOURS waiting for items in collection points, while lugging around a desk and 2 wardrobes from the bargain dept! We'd booked a van to get items home, and van driver had come so went to get refund on items i was waiting for. All in all a really long and tiring day, and we agreed that although we saved about £200 we would have been better off ordering online from home and paying the full price. My back is aching from all the running around yesterday, my young kids were left with friend and family for what i thought would be a couple of hours..... although my new £20 desk does look rather nice!!!
  • Well we decided to brave it and got to Cardiff Ikea at around 7:30pm. We parked straight away and headed to the restaurant...couldn't face a manic shopping experience on a near empty stomach!! No queues, plenty of seating free and 3 of us were fed and watered for £7-ish...well who can resist meatballs and chips for £1??? Had a wander around upstairs, it was really quiet, no stress or aggravation and picked up a pile of bits and pieces for my 4 month and 2 month old grandchildren. Down to the marketplace which was just as quiet, strolled around collecting the usual things that you buy but not sure why and finally on to the self service area for a couple of high chairs. All in all it was a really pleasant experience, we got everything we planned to pick up and saved money too!
