Well we went at about 10.30 and it was busy but not as busy as I expected. We got through quite easily and bought more or less just what we had planned to buy. When we got to the checkout it was very busy but moved pretty quickly.
However we had to pick a large item up and that is when the fun started. They told us it would be at least an hour perhaps as much as 3. Also if we did not pick it up before midnight we would not get our 21% discount. So along with our toddler we decided to spend a few hours at the seaside and have lunch. We came back about 4 hours later and were told they did not know when they would be able to give us our order perhaps in another 2 hours. Toddler was restless so we went on another wee trip. We were going to go home but thought perhaps we should call in as we passed it on the way home. After finally beating my way to the front of the queue I was told they had changed their policy and that they would take my details and tell me when the item was available for collection..
The staff were great and helpful but I think when it was clear that there were problems management should have taken a decision earlier and let people leave their details to be contacted when the items were ready. Perhaps also the cashiers could have been told to warn people about the problem before they paid...
Interesting spent around and in Ikea :-)0 -
The big question for me is - Edmonton or Lakeside??? Any takerson how they are this end of the day?
Leaving in about 30mins with poor little baby in tow and hopefully leaving 3 year old (today!) with grandparents.....0 -
still debating whether to go to Milton Keynes (its only a 20 min drive)...i need shelves, but wondering whether they'd have any left0

Just got back from the Cardiff store. It was a little busy, but pretty normal for a Saturday really. In fact, I think it was the shortest time I've ever spent queueing there! The shelves don't look too empty either, so it may be well worth a visit. In true Ikea style, I forgot to buy the item that was the main purpose of my visit, so I'll be going back again shortly (it's open 'til midnight after all). My consolation will be another tasty hotdog ... yum .... (and only 21p today - absolute bargain!).0

Well, I have just got in from an 8 hour shift at IKEA Milton Keynes and have the following statistical information if anybody is interested..
By 3PM UK-wide takings were over £10,000,000
By 3PM IKEA Milton Keynes had taken over £500,000
(Any Staff reading, this means we get our 40% off in May)
What have the queues been like in other stores? I know in MK that the queues got very bad at one point. All IKEA stores are the same layout, and at MK, the till queues were stretching into the warehouse aisles!
I spent an hour handing out mini diam bars today.. It's amazing, I almost got mobbed! Some people were taking handfuls!
How does that compare with a normal Saturday? I was wondering about this when I was at the croydon store earlier. It would be interesting to know what the total at the end of the day was if you get told.
i hope your day wasn't too stressful coping with all us manic bargain hunters.0 -

Just come back from Warrington - very busy but got through the checkout no problem. There were huge queues of people waiting to order kitchens and wardrobes though.0

We were going to Nottingham this afternoon but police had closed the exits off the A610, not sure if this was due to queues.
Does anybody know why the road was closed, gave up came home and saved the money0 -
We went to Croydon at about 7am. It was already busy, but not too bad. Enjoyed our free breakfast, free water and sweets, got everything we went for, dealt with really friendly staff...all in all a good day. There was a tense moment trying to fit it all in the car and we have used up all our savings, but hey we have lovely dining chairs and a new garden table/chairs as well as some other bits!!
Thanks Money Saving Friends, without this site I wouldn't of known about the sale!! Of course I should thank my Mom too...not many grans come around at 6am to babysit!! Sorry...she's one of a kind and not for sale.

Don't know why it was closed, but just been there at 8.00 tonight - parking was easier than normal, however the store was pretty busy.0
