Ikea in Coventry......piece of cake! 1 1/2 hours from start to finish, including some food in the street cafe (didn't like the look of the queues in the restaurant upstairs!)
Got everything we needed, apart from a rug but we can get that locally!
Queues for the checkouts were a little manic (not as manic as the ones for the lifts down and the queues for home delivery!!), but we were only waiting about 5 mins which was ok. The showroom and market hall was relatively empty TBH
I agree Ikea Coventry was really good. We had breakfast, a leisurely stroll round getting what we wanted.
Then we went to wait for our item from collection.........................ALMOST TWO HOURS!!!!! Apparently the home delivery queue was an even longer wait....I overheard someone saying another two hours!!!!!
So, if you don't need bulky items that aren't on the shelves, it was great!!0 -
Anyone got an update on what it's like at lakeside?;)Darren0

Havent time to read the whole thread but I was chatting to the till opperator in CArdiff early this a.m. and they mentioned that although the store is open till 12 anyone still queing to pay then would be refused due to Sunday trading laws. Apparently last year people got very irate!!! Not sure how strictly this will be enforced but worth considering
Regards

Lucky you! My dad's first (and last) trip to Ikea. I went to Coventry (only 2mins from my house) for bedroom furniture and an oven. Got there at 6:15 and was pleased to see no queues, had our free breakfast then started shopping.
After queuing for 40 mins for wardrobe location/printout sheet, went to collect and realised the assistant had missed the actual wardrobe off and only printed the doors and rail. Admittedly, someone did sort that out for us fairly quicky. Went outside and loaded the van (thanks dad), and went back in to collect oven. Guess I was lucky that was only another 15mins. I heard lots of complaints while there.
So, knowing what I wanted (although did stop to eat), we left at 9a.m. 2 hours and 45 minutes in there - and too early to have a stiff drink when we got home.:rotfl:
I guess all in all it was worth £175 saved - but don't think dad agrees.some people grin and bear it, others smile and do it0 -

I left Lakeside at 1pm and they wern't letting anyone into the car park as it was full and the traffic was tailing back to the A13 exit.
I'm not happy though! Just checked my receipt and the 21% discount doesnt seem to add up. I've called the store and they are going to check my receipt and call me back on Monday. Somehow I doubt they will call back. I would hate to drive 14miles to ikea to get things right! Arggh!!:mad:0 -
The croydon store was not too bad. there was a wait for trollies so get one outside as you go in if you can.
they were handing out free bottles of water and mini dime bars through the store.0 -
I had all the intention of going until yesterday, when, after browsing the Ikea website for the stuff i wanted (we need completely new bedroom furniture and nursery furniture) i just couldnt find any inspiration, so sacked the idea off. Then followed a hellish night living next door to the neighbours from hell, who were partying all night, so i had no sleep. Lay in bed at 6am wide awake all night, and just thought that i had nothing to lose...so went down to the Ashton under Lyne store (only 5-10 mins drive down the motorway), it had already opened but was still relatively quiet (although the car park signs indicated otherwise) I just sauntered round looking for inspiration, hardly saw anyone on the way round, other than a massive queue in the kitchens bit... got to the tills, and it became clear that this was where everyone was...one couple in the queue next to me had 6 low loading trolleys stacked about 8 foot high with stuff, and the delivery queue was absolutely mental and snaked around the exit for as far as the eye could see! I had a 15 minute wait in the queue all for just £20 (with about a quids worth of savings after the 21% discount lolol) worth of bits and bobs lol! Ahhh well, it got me out the house, and gave me an opportunity to stick my hi-fi on full blast for my lovely neighbours from 6am-10.30am lol!
Must say the staff were absolutely lovely! normally at times like this in other stores, you are faced with the most unhelpful grumpiest set of sods on the planet, but not at Ikea...although i didnt actually have the need to speak to any of them myself, i could hear them bending over backwards for people (probably a fair few rude bolshy people aswell i presume!) all the way round! Negative points were the horrible woman who almost broke my ankle ramming her trolley into it, then scrurrying off without an apology after almost chopping it off (thank god i had boots on!), leaving me stood there with tears in my eyes...she's lucky i didnt get pregnant woman hormone overload and smack her lights out lol. And the cheap breakfast, although appreciated, was terrible looking and terrible tasting!
Hope all you bargain hunters had a worthwhile day! x0 -
Have been to Lakeside Ikea where we arrived at 12.15. Parked with not too much trouble. Got in and had lunch - 10 meatballs and chips for a £1 until 11.30pm tonight!! Then went straight to order the sofa bed I wanted - no que!!! Proceeded to mooch around - no busier than normal weekend. Got to the tills around 2.15pm. Only thing I could not get was one chair frame I wanted. Stock levels were pretty low though I went to the information point as they said there is stock out the back and it can be sent through, but unfortunately no more of the frames were available. I did check if it was possible to get the voucher to come back at a later date and get the discount when it was back in stock but was told no. Only the kitchen voucher was available. As we left there were HUGE ques going in so good luck if your planning on going now.0

I'm thinking of going to Ashton-u-Lyne tonight. I finish work at 10.30pm and it's a half hour drive but it should be quiet by 11pm right?
I'm after a child's bed. Do you think I can phone and see if they have it in stock before I go?
Only open till 10pm now. We went last month thinking it was 12 but they have changed hours to 10pm best check before you go !!!!0
