For me it was nt worth it....
I went to the Glasgow branch at 7 am this morning - the car park almost full already.
I had detailed a wardrobe I wanted and Q'd for the order (30 minutes), fought to find components (40min), Q'd at tills (40min), then incredibly waited in line for home delivery desk(2 hours).
Noted I saved best part of £40 but that works out at tenner an hour of my time on a sat morning. That said it was delivered to my home by 12.30.
Alternatively - hire a van for half day - cheaper than £35 home delivery charge
Ikea sort out the Q's and it works.
If you aint going for a big saving - question the amount of time you will spend there.
When I left the store it was heaving0 -
Hi all,
Just sat down with a cuppa following my trip to ikea lakeside this morning. Was very busy in the self serve area but managable, got instore at 7.30am decided to for go the free brekkie in order to get the furniture we wanted. Kitchen dept was heaving as was bedrooms. Had no mattresses in stock the size we wanted and will not be getting anymore in today. Got bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside cabinet thru the tills and no q for home delivery job sorted.
Then decided to go in for the 95p breakfast and go round the marketplace this time, got all the accessories for the room bed clothes, lights etc, then went to Bistro got the meatballs saved approx £200 in total, 4hrs in Ikea ,2 trips round and fed whilst there, and had a 12, 4, and 2yr in toe not bad I think.
Came outside to discover all roads leading to Ikea Lakeside are jammed  so unless your desperate give it a wide berth as I noticed stock getting low in self service area.
Early nite for me now though I'm shattered :beer:0 -
all went well for me today....got up at quarter to four like a mug got to my local store (lakeside) at just before 5 was expecting to see the car park half full already but we was only the 3rd car there! sat in the car until half 5 to keep warm and was about 50 people in front of us in the queue. went in at 6 knew what i wanted and picked up 2 sofas and 2 wardrobes. paid, sorted out delivery and was outside by 25 past 6 was shocked to see the car park packed!!!! couldnt believe how quickly it had filled up! i went to ikea in my unifom cos i had work at 9 and was expecting to be late but we even had time to go and enjoy our free breakfast and be home by half 7! lovely!
just heard on the radio that ikea sales have pretty much brought roads to a halt! LOL
so glad i went early now.....specially as the bits i picked up were the last things we needed for our first home
hope everyone else got on alright!!!! im sure there will be more storys to tell!!! (hopefully more good than bad)0 -
Just got back from Birstall (by bus!) and it was fine!
arrived about 9.30, had a little mooch went to kitchen bit - from joining queue to ordering kitchen 45 mins (and numerous dime bar chocolates) and it was done! More mooching, quick coffee and toilet stop, a bag full of "bits" i'll prob never need (napkin holder for god's sake! what was I thinking?!) 10 minutes at the till, quick hot dog with no queueing and we were done!!
It was very civilised, people very polite, staff super helpful (I got my handbag caught on a display rack and was completely stuck but I was quickly rescued!! :rotfl: ) as far as I could tell, plenty of stock - i got everything on my list plus more (again, napkin holder?????)
Much better than I thought it was going to be and definitely worth going for the money I've saved on my shiny new kitchen!!

Ikea in Coventry......piece of cake! 1 1/2 hours from start to finish, including some food in the street cafe (didn't like the look of the queues in the restaurant upstairs!)
Got everything we needed, apart from a rug but we can get that locally!
Queues for the checkouts were a little manic (not as manic as the ones for the lifts down and the queues for home delivery!!), but we were only waiting about 5 mins which was ok. The showroom and market hall was relatively empty TBHSealed Pot Challenge Member 1216 -
