So, maybe you can suggest a retailer that can keep track of stock that is on a customers trolley walking around the store?
That would be some impressive technology would it not?!?
Thanks to all the nice customers at Leeds, us guys in Self Serve/Loading Bay did everything we could to get stock out and on sale, and considering we are the smallest store in the UK, we held our own (6th out of 17). And for all those customers who got heated about stock been gone at 8pm and later, what did you really expect?
TBH I don't think IKEA will miss the odd customers who have vowed never to step into their stores again because they didn't get what they wanted yesterday.Third time lucky on WW I hope :j

Agreed.
I reckon there were way more happy customers than annoyed. You can't really be too annoyed at them for long queues and stuff being out of stock seeing how busy the day was.
I was thinking yesterday what a good promotion it is for IKEA, even after Saturday it will have people talking about the store, talking about the bargains, and lets face it there are bargains to be had even when its not 21% off so people will go back to get whatever they saw but didn't buy for whatever reason.
I for one have been flicking through the catalogue again today!Proud meowmy of four fuzzy cats0 -
Just hope they don't milk it by running them every 5 minutes or else they'll become another chain that are be blatantly overcharging the rest of the time - could you imagine if it became like DFS et al?
I have a poll / discussion on Economy 7 / 10 off-peak usage (as a % or total) and ways to improve it but I'm not allowed to link to it so have a look on the gas/elec forum if you would like to vote or discuss.

That's a good point actually. I am sure there were at least half a dozen of the item I wanted lying on the dozens of abandoned trolleys in the warehouse. That would account for some of the stock discrepancy - but not all.
Anyhow, I feel entitled to grumble. I made a two hour round trip after an eight hour shift at work at midnight in good faith. Whatever. :whistle:0 -
So who like me has spent near enough the whole day building what they brought in Ikea on sat?
I have just one unit left to build and I am so pleased with what I have brought:beer:0 -
Hi, saw this topic and thought I'd sign up to explain a couple of things..
19th April, 21% off everything in store only. Massive contingency plans for queues and parking are being put into place at the store I work in (even down to a breakdown company on standby on the car park!)
Lots of extra stock in the warehouses for immediate re-filling throughout the day!!
Staff gets a day in May where it's 36% off everything (40% if the whole of the UK hit a certain secret amount!)
Massive ad campaign starting a few days before, TV, Radio, Newspapers etc.
Hope that helps!! :T
From what my son says they did reach that amount and some more.:D0 -

Indeed, that's what makes t'Internet such fun, that ability to grumble...
I had a sixteen hour day at work on the Friday, six hour break between shifts, 8 hours on Saturday followed by four hours at Ikea. The latter experience was by far the best. we got a parking space at Gateshead (albeit away from the building), we knew fairly well what we wanted, had a slow saunter round the store, collecting odds and sods on the way, got our pick lists for various furniture items, had a chat with fellow customers in the large queues, had a hot-dog and a coffee from Ikea (bought) and left with a full car. The only thing missing from a many £ shopping experience was a £4 clothes rail for a wardrobe, but I can go back and get that (don't mind the lack of 21% discount on that...). The staff I met were friendly ( I was friendly to them) as were many other customers (of course there were some trying to rush round and jump huge queues...)
Well done Ikea, well managed, and pretty well stocked. To each of you who sees fit to grumble - it is a shop which has a sale - did you really expect everything to be exactly where it was when the computer said it should be???0 -

Nope we spent all day saturday building it, and did some yesterday aswell! you can no longer get in the utility room for packs of wooden flooring, sons new bed, frames and other stuff! Shame my OH works away or we could attempt to get it done on the evenings when he gets home from work ... in the mean time I can't get to the washing machine and will have to wait til Friday :mad:Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0 -
I got speaking to one of the staff members from downstairs in the gateshead store, she was lovely and went out of her way to help us. What I didn't know is that she had been there since 5am, didn't finish til 4pm and that on Saturday none of the staff were paid, it was simply lieu time
I wouldn't be happy with that to be honest but maybe that is just me!

My OH and I went to the Ikea in Birstall but didn't get there till 11.30am. I fully expected it to be hell on earth but it actually wasn't too bad in the end. We saved around £70 on stuff we needed for our new house, though it was slightly annoying having to buy them 2 weeks before we move in meaning we'll have to transport them! But it was worth going, the staff were extremely good humoured and helpful, all things considered and even the customers were quite well behaved! The only snag was that we had to go back on Sunday to pick up a new gas hob as they said we'd have to wait 5 hours to pick stuff up from the manufacturing bit but that wasn't too bad. Well done to all Ikea staff! I had my first Ikea hot dog too, pretty good for 21p though I couldn't help wondering about the quality of meat that must have gone into it!...No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30
