Quick update to my earlier post:
Stuff was delivered yesterday afternoon, but having been left in a leaky old van overnight by the Home Delivery people, the majority of it was soaking wet and thus ruined. Phoned up straight away to report the problem, and Ikea have offered to send free replacements for the damaged items, which is acceptable.0 -
WEll I went on monday spend £300, returned on Sat morning at 9.30 bought it all again and walked to returns with mondays reciept. I thought I was bad.. there was another lady there who had spent £4k the night before on a kitchen.Dam right I would be demanding a refund to re-purchase all over again. that was over £800 she was saving..

Pocoyo, i work at IKEA and have grown up with IKEA, im sure most people know what IKEA is like for inventory issues and to be honest this is the same with many stores sometimes you go to a clothes store and they dont have your size so you wait for it to come back in to stock. On Saturday as a company we recieved volumes of customers across the UK that no one was expecting. We just about doubled the figure we were aiming for as a country. I went in to work at 8 am and it felt as though it was 12 in the afternoon. We had sold a weeks stock in the space of 2 hours!!! I am currently an acting manager so was actually responsible for ordering the stock in for our department on most things we doubled the usual delivery. Now you have to bear in mind we have to keep this stock somewhere. Some of the stock was actually trying to come over to the store on what we call a 'shunt' but couldnt reach us due to the traffic outside. There were as many measures as possible but into place to ensure people got there stuff. Out of a 12 hour day 2 customers walked away from me empty handed pretty good going i would say.
Im not being funny but do you really think that your one person custom now and again will cripple IKEA? In all honesty the hard working staff who just want to please the customer and break their back for them really dont appreciate the comments from people like you. We all put a lot of effort in to Saturday and tried are best to make everyone happy im sorry we failed you.0 -

Of course not  but I reserve the right to vote with my feet. I've already said "well done" to the staff. Not once have I criticised them. As far as I could see they were doing their best despite being let down by poor systems. I have worked in retail, I know what that's like.0 -

He thought for a minute then said "its okay, I get 1% cashback using it so that will outweigh the 70p charge" :T
70p charge for credit card payment???
I wasn't aware of this, it doesn't say anything about it on my receipt. I think someone might possibly have made a small error there0 -
I arrived at the IKEA store in Gateshead at 6.50 and was directed to a parking place. Walked into the store and got a family card. I just wanted bits and bobs and found the store not too busy - I was able to saunter around and browse at will. I filled up my trolley and parked it outside of the cafe to get a free breakfast before 8am. There were queues at sofa order point and the kitchen order point but on the whole it seemed very well organised and a good atmosphere. Did anybody find one of the keys that were hidden in store? would love to know what you got if you found one. The tills were busy but there was loads of staff about directing customers and even helped to pack my bags. The queue for delivery looked a bit of a nightmare though
I think they deserve a big well done considering the sheer amount of customers that they handled in 1 day. Thankyou IKEA but why do I always end up buying more cushions

If you've worked in retail, surely you have a better understanding of what it's like at shop-floor level, unless you work in 'systems' of course!
Have you ever had to host a sale? Ran out of stock? Had people come in at the 11th hour (literally) and not be able to get something? And what would be your response to them complaining about it? C'mon, truthfully? Chill pill anyone  ?
I was at Gateshead from 10.30am-6pm, had meatballs at 11.30 and said to my friend when we got to the checkout 'Are you hungry? I've just realised it's 6 hours since we ate :rotfl: ." So after we'd loaded the car I went back in for hotdogs, fries and drinks. Personally I struggle with 2 hours in a shopping centre, but the time just flew in there, was a good day, children were suitably occupied while parents shopped, staff were extremely pleasant and helpful, even when i nipped out a couple of times during the day for a ciggie they were outside offering food and drinks to extremely patient shoppers. In fact the only frayed nerves i saw all day were right at the end, the hotdog bar guy was about to explode i think, and i'm sorry to say it but i even saw the humorous side of that, please someone get that man a very stiff drink!!!
End result of my day, got all i wanted except a chest of drawers (not to worry ), saved over £50, got a voucher for the kitchen i'm planning to go back for. Couple of overcharges on my receipt, only about £10 worth, but i've rang Gateshead today, spoke to couple of really pleasant staff, and expecting a callback tomorrow to ok the refund. I'm confident that'll get sorted.
By the way Pocoyo, did you ask customer services if you could have a voucher to go back for a bed? I don't know for certain if that was possible but i think i've seen on this thread somewhere that someone did that, wish i'd known, i might have tried that for the chest of drawers.
Thanks Ikea, for really knowing the meaning of good customer service and delivering it, that's why i'll definitely come back to your store :T0 -

I think possibly if you had gone to customer services first and told them what you intended to do, they might even have just repriced the whole lot for you without you needing to go round the store picking everything out then returning it so they have to process all the returns and replace them back on shelves, could have said a whole lot of time for you and them, especially as you might have had stuff that other people wanted but couldn't get cos it wasn't back on the shelves. Eg. a bed? Or a chest of drawers? (see above if you don't get it)

Dynamo-di. I see the logic, but the branch in Edmonton would NOT have done that0
