So, in regards to sorting out a kitchen, should I first go to Ikea's kitchen team and get an 'official' list sorted tonight, and then pay for it on Saturday? Will this work?0

Try the new Coventry branch which is in Coventry City Centre...It's almost a pleasure to shop there, owing to the LACK of customers !!!
The one time we drove there, it did take 45 minutes though, and that was mostly just to get round the roundabout under the ring road and in to the carpark. The main delay seemed to be that they stopped each car in turn on entry to the carpark to explain the ticketing system, massively delaying the flow of traffic. This was a Saturday a couple of weeks after opening though, so hopefully they've sorted the system out a bit by now.0 -
Got the official email through this morning, via Ikea Family:

Watch out for the scrum!

I also got the email this morning (and am about 5 minutes from Edmonton so am planning to be there shortly before 6).
I already have a IKEA Family card and if I do this, I'm going tonight to check stock levels and write locations of the items I want in preparation for Saturday morning so I can go straight up and straight back down to the warehouse.
Just hoping that because I already have the card that means I'll be able to get in and out pretty quick (just want some doors for the tall Billy bookcases but need 8 and at £25/each that's a potential £42 savings)...as I won't have to wait to join before I can get in...but I'm not sure if I'm being overly optomistic.
I can just see though that if the crowds are big enough they're going to give up on making people sign up for the card before they can go in.
Trying to decide if £42 is enough to be part of potential mass chaos or not.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Now that it has been made official I can stick my head above the parapet.
Saturday is going to be very very busy and as most of you know; half of the battle is going to be getting into the place, for anyone contemplating larger orders I would suggest getting in either today or tomorrow and getting you picking lists and fullserve orders done in advance. The full serve orders can be re-activated a lot more quickly than starting them from scratch.
In my store a lot of the larger items are already on trolleys so it ought to be a simple case of just wheeling them out, also a lot of the better selling items are not in their original locations but have been moved into the central areas - Ask and you shall find! (Maybe)
Also - IKEA is a shop, it is there to sell boxes to people, if an item has sold out then it is sold out, no amount of ranting will make it re-appear and you will not get a rain-check except for kitchens, get there a bit earlier.
We do have large stocks of most items, but inevitably some items are not available, they won't be available and no amount of pleading will make them available, (and No! You cannot have the display model either) it is generally the case that the factory making them has had problems and the whole supply chain has run out.
Finally spare athought for the co-workers, most are on little more than minimum wage and will have been up from stupid o'clock but we do try to be angels :A (I'm the one in the Tin Hat and with a Cattle Prod)
So please spend, spend, spend, 'cos the more you lot spend the more discount we get (eventually). The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0 -
Tempting, very tempting..... but as I'm 39 weeks pregnant, perhaps I'll give it a miss!! Do need a few baby things though....I wonder what discount you get for going into labour in Ikea??!!
but if you did the ikea sale then it could very well put you in labourleast you would have all of the baby things you need!

Openeing week bombed so I can't see that a day's sale would make much difference.
You are joking! I have been once to return a faulty cot bumper. The staff were rude, the manager was a complete joke and I had to take it up with head office as they refusd to change it. Then when I went up to the store in the lift I couldn't find the way out! the layout is horrible! That is one ikea store I will never return to!!!Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0 -
Would love to have gone to this (if only to watch the scrums ! lol) but considering our nearest is Lakeside I think i'll give it a miss !
Good luck to all you bargain hunters though - hope you get some real goodies !:jWeight loss to date 1st 11.5lb :j0 -
But.... What would you call the child. Billy, Bjursta, Kolon, Tvatta, Mongstad?
The possibilities are endless  :rotfl:The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0
