I went into a branch local to me, first I asked for ISA application form for 2008/09 tax year, answer i got was blank faces as if i was speaking a foreign language. :rotfl:
Next i suggested i made an appointment to see an advisor re opening an ISA on 6th April, i stressed i was happy with an appointment towards the end of March even on April 6th. Answer was a muttering about April 15th. :rotfl:
Then I explained all i really wanted was an ISA application form to take away and perhaps bring back with cheque, ID etc. Cashier answered "ah i know where they are kept " and she went off to a cabinet and handed one to me with a smile looking at the camera as she smiled. :rotfl:
I was informed that ISA applications handed in via a branch will be going off to Barclays ISA office same as with Taxbeater ISA.
MMMMMMMMMM, this seems to be a change of direction for you, i am sure you were adamat about waiting until 6th April 08, why the interest now? also, you dont need to book an appointment, as you know i walked into the east dulwhich brank and completed my form thee and then.
Also i am not surprise you got blank face, my application was completed by the personal banker on the system, so i no paper wasting for me (be kind to the enviroment). its far better to talk to a personal banker than a cashier, and not sure why you mentioning Ig, that was needed for me either - quotoation from before "mis leading" MMMMMMMMMMMMTrinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!0 -
I opened a tax beater ISA in a Barclays branch on 20 March 2007 with a cheque deposit of £3000, but this wasn't cashed until sometime later (can't remember exactly when, but possibly as late as May). When I eventually got my first statement, it said the money had been paid in on 5 April 2007. I have a couple of questions...
1) When will my one year at 6.5% end? Will it be 5 April 2008? 20 March 2008? Or some other date?
2) I'm sure I recall Barclays saying interest would be backdated - should my interest be backdated to date of account opening, i.e 20 March 2007? At the moment interest is only being backdated to 5 April 2007 which means my cash was left languishing at 0.1% in a current account for a couple of weeks through no fault of my own.
I put another £3000 in the account in June for 2007/08 but I don't think this will make any difference to the above.
My plan for 2008/09 is to open a tax-haven ISA (unless anything better comes along before 6 April 2008) and transfer the £6000 in the tax-beater elsewhere (probably Abbey). The answer to Q1 above will dictate when I need to submit my transfer paperwork! If I had a pound for every time I didn't play the lottery...0 -

As I posted yesterday im going to wait till end of March before making any ISA decisions, I merely wanted to guarantee myself either an appointment or an application form being as they dont appear to be available to print off this year.;)
Now i have the application form i know that if i decide to open Taxhaven ISA I can go into Branch with application form/cheque/ID certain that i would leave with mission accomplished.
Your application was "completed on the system by the personal banker" "no paper wasting for you" .....what happened to your cheque? ( my guess is that branches are merely logging the applications that go through them)
Only reason i would open the Barclays ISA is if i thought that it would take several weeks to open, with interest backdated to 6.4.08 and me also receiving interest on the 3600 elsewhere at the same time. :cheesy:
( all i was suggesting to people is that they do the same thing i.e ensure theve either got an application form or an appointment for end of march)0 -

Words "Non ISA Fix" were used :wall: , most people would see that as a sign that higher fixed rates are still being launched which could mean that a higher fixed ISA than is currently available may get launched within next few weeks or so.
Before u fire back, I was expressing an opinion that its prudent to wait and c what ISAS might be launched in next few weeks rather than rush to make a advance Barclays ISA application.)0 -
