Barclays Tax Haven ISA 2008/09

Hello Guys, I just seen martin's reccomendation of Barclays 6.5% ISA, but I have some questions. I know the financial year commences on 6th April, but considering the problems barclays had last year with their Isa Beater 2007/08, I was wondering if it is too early to get an application form in now? Also, I read on another thread, you cant have two ISA's with Barclays. I currently have a 2007/08 ISA with Barclays, but do I need to wait till the 12 months is up before applying for the new barclays? My first thought on this is, as they are in different financial years, it does not matter, but god knows what the T&C say!!
Am i write in saying this is the best ISA for new money only (no transferrs from previous years)?

No, it's not too early. I have a Tax Beater Cash Isa from 07/08 and will be moving it out. I rang them today in this regard. However, whilst on the phone I have "set up" the 08/09 Haven ISA now. No money going in yet. All the usual security questions, asked, legal statements read out, documentation in the post. Account set up ready. Money will be deducted from my Barclays current account on April 6th for £3600. You can also have the money going in from an account with a different bank, but just so happens we have an account with Barclays anyway. You can either do it over the phone or else online.0

Can you actually transfer money in and out online?
When i read the T&C earlier i seem to remember it was in branch/phone only?
If its online its the one for me.0 -
Thanks for the advice Mary, do you have a contact number for them, I am not a bank account holder, but then i assume my current Barclays ISA must contribute towards security checks, I really want to get to the head of the game, Barclays really messed me around last year, it took almost three months to open my account last year (they lost, found and lost my application form) - thanks for the advice MaryTrinidad - I have a number of needs. As far as I know, yes at the moment.0 -
gazza, I did a check on the T&C also, but they really seem wishy washy regarding deposits / withdrawls online. I did find this though;
2.2 The minimum deposit is £1. Deposits may be made by transfer from another account, standing order, cheque, or by paying a cash amount into any Barclays branch in the UK.
maybe you need to give them a bellTrinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!0 -
ISA contact number 0845 603 0845
There doesn't appear to be an alternative number to ring on saynoto0870 for that number, but as I have online banking with Barclays and have telephone banking password etc. I used the alternative for that and found my way through by being transferred. (02476842099) - that is only any good if you are registered for telephone banking with them.
However the 0845 603 0845 I've given is the one the guy in the ISA office gave me as their direct no. he works from. They are based in Liverpool and the ISA address is
Barclays Savings,
PO Box 75
Liverpool L69 7HG
Useful for those of you who want to transfer your old ISA out as your new home will want to know where to contact in order to get it moved to them.0 -

Hi,
I am sorry that I bother you with what is for you a very basic and potentially stupid question, however, I only recently moved to the UK and all the ISA stuff is really new to me. Having said that, reading the various threads here in the forum already made a huge difference.
Well, here´s my question: I am currently having my current account with Barclays so to make it as simple as possible for me in my first few weeks here in the UK, I thought opening my ISA account with them wouldn´t be a bad idea. Now, how would I do that then going on from here?
As I haven´t made use of my allowance for 2007/08 yet, I wonder if I now have to open a Tax Beater Cash ISA for 2007/08 and at the same time apply for the Tax Haven ISA for the upcoming tax year? Or can I just open 1 account, e.g. the Tax Haven account and pay in 3k for the current and then on April 6th another 3.6k for 08/09?
Would be great to know how this works.
Cheers,

Dear Dus,
hey, welcome to MSN, there is no such thing as stupid or basic questions. Money saving expert is a site to share and help consumers. Welcome also to the UK. You seem to be a active money saving member, because you are thinking about your finances which is great. Yes I would recomend opening your ISA for this financial year and the next financial year. Pop into your local branch in the next few days with your bank account details and some proof of id, or better still telephone the helpline (mary mentioned it a few replies before) and let us how you get get alone. I am also so glad you made your first written post, byeTrinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!0 -
