I'm gutted, I've just looked at the paperwork for the tax beater ISA and according to that I didnt open it untill the 21st May. I'm gonna go and apply for a tax haven ISA today with new money but now I realy dont know what to do about my tax beater ISA.

U dont need to wait until 21 May to transfer out of Barclays Tax Beater ISA, the applied rate is only 6.31% so compared with other variable rates of 6.25% and fixes of 6.15%, difference in interest is negligible for the period involved especially as it will take time for the transfer to be effected.
Please note those who transfer to Abbey PLC, Nationwide BS or Saffron BS are guaranteed to NOT lose any interest while the transfer cheque is in the post and being banked, whereas ive not seen A+L make such a "no loss of interest guarantee".
( Ive seen it posted that A+L does not backdate interest on ISA transfer ins)0 -
Has anyone else manged to get the new Tax Haven Isa ready to open for the 2008-2009 year online. I know one person in this thread indicated they had but has anyone else? Or are most people doing it in Branch? ThanxHappiness is not having what you want...but wanting what you have!!!0

Nope, like others on here, I only had the option of selecting "April 6th 2007 - April 5th 2008".
I called Barclays and did it over the phone in about 10 minutes0 -
I made some enquires today in opening a ISA tax Haven with Barclays at a branch. I went to Camberwell Green branch - London first. Seemed to be very busy, and a little confusing with seats on one streatch of a wall, and a customer officer on the other side. There was a young chap on customer service, he did not know where the application forms were stored, or much about the product. I was handed to someone else, who told me I might need a bank account with Barclays (not true). They operate a appointment system only with account opening, was told it could take up to half an hour, and I should bring a valid passport. The earliest appointment he had was a morning one on thursday (three days time).
I tried my local branch, a small branch in dulwhich. Few people in the branch. I spoke to customer service within a few minutes, and was passed to a personal banker. The lady at the front was not sure if I could have a current ISA and open a new one for 2008/09 (you can). I opened a tax ISA, it took a few minutes because the personal banker used the details from my previous ISA. I was in and out of the branch in minutes. I was told I need to make a min of £10.00 deposit by cheque, but i was fine with this.
The Personal banker told me her system is saying it would only take two weeks max to complete, and I will have a account number through the post very shortly.
I am just so pleased the application is in process, well done East Dulwhich!!
I did ask when my rate will go down from my current ISA with Barclays, I was told on 5th April, but I might want to check on that one, as I am sure the rate will only go down after 12 months.Trinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!0 -

Every question uve quoted that u asked Barclays they gave u the wrong answer. :rotfl:
U seem to be happy with the Branch based on the last answer theve gave u. :wall:
Yesterday people posted saying thet believed that they could make an advance application without having included a cheque with the application. ( one poster even referred to Barclays as being liars)
U believe that u will have your 2008/09 ISA account opened in two weeks based on what a branch ( who it appears wont be processing the application has told u)
I believe u wont have the account opened in 2 weeks, we will see who is right and who is wrong.

If you make any deposit now, for 2008/09, you will not be entitled to the interest, and Barclays may also close your ISA account.
...     :eek:0 -
I don't honestly get it. How does it take so long to open an ISA account?
I am tempted to go into a branch on 6th April with a cheque for £500 saying I want to open an ISA, but I get the feeling this wouldn't be opened for donkeys years either.
Tempted to just open another Egg Cash ISA which pays 6.05% as it opens withing a day or 2 (last one did) and I can earn interest then.0 -

Barclays priorities will be opening 2007/08 ISA applications. ( even ones that are received during last week in March 2008)
Also Priority for Barclays will be processing Taxbeater ISA transfer outs.
After April 6th 2008 Barclays will continue processing any 2007/08 applications that were received before end of 2007/08 tax year and are still awaiting to be opened.
Then Barclays will start opening 2008/09 ISA applications in the order that they were received.
My advice to people is to wait till last week in March to see if any more best buy ISA account rates have been launched and should people still want to go with Barclays ISA to put in an advance application towards the end of March with minimum initial deposit. ( keeping rest of 3600 in a high paying easily accessible savings/current account
Any delays with account openings people should then complain that theve not been able to add to their accounts due to not having an account no ( if this is the case)
( Last year Barclays backdated the interest on added deposits back to
6th April 2007 resulting in people getting 2 lots of interest on the same sum of money for several weeks :j )
Or keep 3600 in a high interest cheque account ( 6% and above) give Barclays the full 3600 with application form
and just wait for Barclays to take the cash and then ask for Barclays to backdate the interest to start of 2008/09 tax year)
Backlog shouldnt be so bad this year because personal account customers can apply online. a lot will depend on whom will be opening both Tax Haven applications made at a branch and Tax Beater transfer out applications.
( If Barclays ISA office are dealing with all of it then.   )
To : Mr Lee. Last year it took nearly "2 weeks" to receive the account opening details after the account had been opened. :laugh:0 -
I have my current Barclays ISA maturing shortly, i have decided to transferr into A+L 6.25%. Applied online and after a credit check i already have an account number.
Lokolo, dont get too bogged down with what has been written in this thread. People can only offer opinon and experirences. One thing for certain, it will be mayhem on the 6th April in most of the banks/building societies, let alone the "your call is important to us, but we are experirecing an increase in demand". regards to why the banks take weeks to set things up, i guess they will argue they have alot of applications to deal with, and not enough staff. I guess that might sound bad customer service, but i guess thats life.
If you do opt for another provider, let us know who, and your experiencesTrinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!0
