The only trouble with being fully offset is Barclays keep contacting me to 'discuss my mortgage arrangement' I don't think they like the idea that I'll be paying no interest for the next 20 years!!!!

They do that with me too. My feeling is that if they are going to try and charge me a fee of £275 to pay off my mortgage, then the least they can do is continue to service it for me for the next 20 years :rotfl:

Thanks for the info - I would have clicked Thanks, but the button isn't showing for some reason.

My ISA with Barrclays is shotly coming to an end (2007-08), so I opend a ISA online with A+L (6.25% until may 2009). I completed the application form online. Yesterday I received confirmation in the post and today I received details of looging etc, how efficiant is that??

I telephoned barclays who put me through to the ISA helpline, and told them I wanted to transferr this years isa to A+L, I have to fill out a form.

I then enquired about my ISA Haven (I submitted my application form at a branch on 10th March). It seems to be in a pile somewhere. I told them I did not want to contiue with the application, told to put that also in writing.

I just dont think Barclays are efficiant enough for me. I am going to put 2008/09 money also in the A+L. in june and October I have maturing ISA's from previous years, so unless the organisations offer a better rate, or I see better rates else where, these will also go to A+L.

Good luck everyone with their applications, Barclays is just not for me

All the banks are pesky with their headline rates.
It becomes terribly easy to be confused (surely the point, me thinks), but it doesn't appear to be the case that the the A&L ISA is FIXED until May 09... It's a variable rate ISA with a 1% bonus..
Therefore having a CURRENT rate only, of 6.25%.........

Lol.. Sorry Lee.. I sensed your frustration there.
It does become a little bit like 'Pedants Corner', in Private Eye, in here sometimes...

Didn't mean to be all anal all over you (Ewww!) just for the sake of it.. I was worried, about the tone, when I was writing it....

There's obviously a reason why you've been thanked more often than I have, I don't get my tone right.... Again, soz...

  • Hi moneysavers,

I'm planning to open a 'tax haven' before the end of March, with three grand in the account. Also will top the 'tax haven' with an extra 3.6K on 6 April.

Sounds very simple, have I missed a trick? Can you only start putting money into the 'tax haven' as of 6.4.08? The first deposit is all new money. Will I still be getting the 6.5% as of March 08?

    Many Thanks,

You can open a Tax Haven for this current year before 5 April, if you haven't contributed this year's allowance already. You can then add to it on or after the 6 April for the next tax year's allowance. Not quite sure what you mean about March 08 but if you meant March 09, the rate is variable, so if the BofE rate reduces before March 09, there's a good chance that the Tax Haven rate will reduce as well. In fact, there's nothing to stop Barclays reducing the rate even if the BofE don't reduce the rates, but as they haven't done that with the Tax Beater, I'd think it's unlikely, but who knows?

What do you get with this account? Is it just a paying in book and annual statements or is there some sort of passbook? The man in the branch didn't know.

Also, I applied in branch 8 days ago and still haven't heard anything. Is everyone experiencing this delay?

If it's anything like last year's Tax Beater you'll be lucky if you have any paperwork from them inside of 2 or 3 months. They did, however, back date interest to the beginning of last April, and have employed more people this year as a result of the mess last year. Although, as was posted on a thread about this, they will of course have to deal with all of the transfers out of last year's Tax Beater as well now that the bonus is due to expire. I didn't get a passbook with the Tax Beater. All I received was a letter of confirmation, and monthly statements.
