Dog needs URGENT OPERATION: Can't afford it

My lab pup was in pain and had to be crated for almost 2 weeks and was on painkillers for 'just' a bad sprain, I absolutely dread to think what this poor pup is going through.
Children will yell, cry and moan. I've leaned that dogs on the whole, do not. They suffer pain almost in silence.
Please, please do something to help this dog. Your friend may not fully appreciate how bad it is for him, especialy if he is bearing things quietly.0 -
- Animal Welfare Act
This Act introduces the new legal concept of a ‘duty of care’, which means that people are now legally obliged to ensure the welfare of the animals in their care. A person who owns a dog, or is looking after a dog (or other animals covered by the Act) must make sure the dog has a suitable environment; has a suitable diet; is able to exhibit normal behaviour patterns; is protected from pain, suffering, injury and disease. The carer must also address the dog’s need to be housed with, or apart from, other animals......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I feel sick to the pit of my stomach. I really hope this poor dog is at least on some pain relief.
If she can't afford the vet bill and knows she can't afford the vet bill then why on earth has she taken the poor dog home to suffer?
You realistically can't expect a charity to pick up the pieces, they have enough to contend with without taking on a dog they know is going to cost thousands to put right. Please ask your friend to do the descent thing and put the poor dog out of its miserary.
How long is she going to keep her in pain for until she realises no one is going to pay the vet bills for her?0 -
I'm pretty shocked that no animal charities at all will help.
If none will help, then she will have to get him put down ASAP, because its mich kinder than him suffering with no end in sight.0 -
barbiegirl, whereabouts is your friend? just wondering if there are any local rescues who could help!0

Hi all, my friend has tried all the charities and local rescues but no one will help. I phoned the RSPCA this morning and the lady basically said that because she is in work then they will not help out. I asked her if it was cruelty because he was being confined to a crate/cage because he is injured and she said if I was willing to put in a complaint they would send someone around to investigate? I don't want to do this. I called her at work to inform her that I had tried the RSPCA on her behalf and got nowhere. She also mentioned that he isn't in pain or distress despite not having any pain killers! I have to say now I am confused? Thanks again everyone for your input.0

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE say the area/county. This has been asked loads of times, not to be nosey.
Someone on here may know an avenue or idea you haven't tried, but they need to know where as these things do tend to be local.0 -

That could be due to shock or the dog has got used to the pain by now. I think the RSPCA's reaction is appalling :eek:0 -
Sorry but to me, not reporting it is condoning it & you should also be held accountable. How would you feel if it were your dog/cat/budgie/kids with a broken leg & in constant pain, or even yourself? YOU seem to be the only person other than the dogs owner able to help this poor animal. To me, if she won't surrender the dog to the RSPCA or provide treatment she is breaking the law & shouldn't be allowed to have any pets.
I'm sorry to be harsh & angry, but nothing makes me more upset than animal cruelty & abuse & I know you're here for help & advice but we can go through this for the next week & all this time nothing is helping that poor dog.
Bottom line is, the owner either can't or won't help it, she IS breaking the law & the dog needs a vet NOW. Put in a complaint, if she decides to break off the friendship you have then it wasn't really a friendship to begin with. This dogs suffering is just like I see on Animal 24:7 & is barbaric. Please please pick up that phone now.
Despite my anger I do wish you well in resolving this, but also, it's you that unfortunatly will have to sort this dog. Good thing she doesn't live near me!!0
