savings4me wrote: »Hello,
I am a newbie here. very excited at the htought of going to a group this week. I have a couple of friends that have been telling me how good it is and another who has given me a couple of books.
Does anyone a have a code or something so that I canlook on the website - really keen to prep myself.
I am doing my weekly shop tomorrow ( before the group) so it would be handy to know someof the things I should stockup on and those to definately avoid.
Thanks in advance
you will get the password tomorrow at group, unfortunately we are not allowed to give it out to non members but you will be one from tomorrow and we will be able to help you out in the future if you forget it. we could have the thread closed down if we give it out to non members.. sorry..DFW red and green memberDoing my best to lose weight and save money0 -
You could stock up on pasta and rice, savoury rice and pasta n sauce are good choices on green days so are fat free super noodles. potatoes are used on both days Quorn sausages and pieces are free on both but meat (all fat removed ) is free on original. fat free yoghurts are free on both days and so is fruit and veg, tho some is free on green but not on original. wholemeal bread is the best to use at it is one of your healthy B choices so is weetabix and porridge. cheese can be used as a healthy A choice (buy low fat as you are allowed more) so is milk, skimmed is my prefference plus you get alot more of it so you can use it in your pasta n sauces.
theres a few to be going along with tho im sure some one else will be along with more ideas for you.
Good luck and welcome once again we are a friendly bunch.DFW red and green memberDoing my best to lose weight and save money0 -

Something I would add to the newbies shopping list is herbs and spices they make the world of difference to dishes

Sounds wonderful, is carrot and swede good as a topping then?
It's FREE on Original Day too. Similar Recipe is in 100 Free Original Recipes called Cottage Pie. I use extra lean minced beef. We had fresh sprouts with it and it was scrummy. I gave DH a tiny bit of mineto try and he thought the topping was equally as nice as mashed potato.

Aghh!
have just had a look at the times of all the local groups expecting one to be a day group but they are all evenings - I am a single mum so can't go.
Has anyone used the online version and would they recommend it?
It is a lot of money so I don't want to blow a load of money unnecessarily.
It doesn't give you an option of having a look to see what it's like. I did Tesco online a few years ago and it was rubbish.
Thanks again0 -

i have a couple of chinese takeaways that i really enjoy and are very low in syns.
chicken and mushrooms with boiled rice works out at 5 syns for the whole meal but if you are savvy like me and share it it works out at 2.5syns a meal.
king prawn and ginger and spring onion is the same as the above so i do the same again. i get a whole portion of rice to myself and my DD gets a rice for herself too and we share the main portion.
EDIT... there are quite a few low syn chinese meals if you look at the menu properly, anything in a light sauce is good like chicken and brocoli with boiled rice, or go for a chop suey (i think) which is mainly bean sprouts and veg. Stay away from the sweet and sour or the curries as they are ladened with syns.
thanks nl for tips when having a chinese i do find i,m ok why i'm doing the plan at home, but i have been out a couple of time since starting sw and i don't know what to have and i end up using 85syns:mad: like last weekend having a indian, can anyone suggest what would have been better choises, cos i spent the rest of the week only having 5 syns a dayjoined sw on 22/10/08lost 3 stonere-joined 8/1/12need to lose 2 stones:eek:4lbs:j0 -

Good heavens, if I'd known you were going to be so rash, I'd have given you my address! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Lovelyladybird - if you have the meat without sauces you won't use nearly as many syns. I don't do Indian, but I know they do have spicy meats with a 'dry' coating. Any plain rice you have would be free on green.I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
