That looks a nice alternative to pizza thanks for posting it
I saw a one in the mag which you had to mash potato and leave overnight which seemed too much faff but that looks easier.
I've got some SW potato wedges in the oven with a homemade chilli dip ready to eat while watching xfactor0 -

If I have decided I have had such a **** day , to end such a **** week (like today/this week for example) that I am not making anything to eat and going to have takeaway or ready meal , which of the following is least destructive to my weight loss endeavours:
1) Fried rice with Curry and a chip muffin (my current fave choice)
2) Haddock and Chips (sometimes accompanied by a buttered muffin ...... or two:o)
3) A pizza (very large - 14 in) - potential;y a veggie one
4) A ready meal - most often - Tesco Taste the difference (or whatever their posh/expensive versions are called) Red Thai Chicken Curry with Egg fried rice
and lastly
5) Chiese takeaway of Malaysain Chicken Curry with Rice ...ehm and sometimes chips too:o
would appreciate pointers n opinions
thanks
J
In answer to your later post, what would we have picked, I would probably have gone for option 5 as that certainly takes my fancy although I would probably substitute the rice for noodles and the malaysian chicken curry for beef in black bean sauce.
My ultimate comfort meal is jacket chips, eggs and 85g ham. sometimes served with mushrooms. I cook the potatoes in the morning as I find they crisp up much better when cooked from cold.
I also cooked up the lamb shank meal the other week (based on the recipe in the recent SW mag but adapted it slighlty - more spices etc). and had enough to freeze some. This is something new to me (this batch cooking business) but I was delighted when I had to be in from work and out again the other night in just over an hour but was able to have a really warming and comforting meal as all I had to do was 24 hours beforehand take it out the freezer, stick it in the fridge to defrost and then reheat for just under 15 mins the following day.
if there is something that really lifts your mood foodwise then why not cook it up and freeze it so for those moments when everything is getting you down, you have something to cheer you up.0 -

My idea of cooking is getting take away or chucking a ready meal in oven or microwave:o
thanks again
Judderman - I take my hat off to you!! A few years ago I kind of assumed that most people "our" age could cook. I never did cookery at school but had to learn pretty quick when I got married and as children came along & money was tight you just have to! It was quite a shock just a couple of years ago to realise that there are a lot of people out there who can't cook. A woman I know was telling me that she only ever opens tins and packets and roasts a bit of meat that was the extent of her cookery & she'd been married 20 years with 2 sons. She said her own mother was a rubbish cook and they lived on tins of everything - veg, fruit and meat. Nothing fresh ever.Anyway, she had to start budgeting very carefully because her hubby was made redundant and started making meals from scratch and using recipes from mags and she got to like it and is a wonderful cook now.
I think there will be a lot more people learning how to cook properly soon. It can be fun and challenging but at least you know 100% what goes in and you can make very healthy meals at a fraction of the cost of pre-packed stuff.
Really hope you get on OK and I'm sure you'll be getting compliments on your cooking soon.;)0 -

well i made it and to be honest it was quite palletable,:p it was a bit strange the base being potato but all the toppings made it quite yummy. i did 2 one with ham, pepperoni, sweetcorn and mozzerella cheese and the other with peppers, red onlions, mushrooms, ham and mozzerella, it took quite a while for the potato base to cook and go crispy only to go soft again when i put the tomato on it lol:cool: i will make it again tho as it was very satisfyling and filling.:T
Thanks for that. Ive seen this in a couple of the SW mags where the base is potato not dough and its something Ive thought of trying but never got round to.
Ive walked past many a pizza in a supermarket thinking "just this once" I will treat myself and have a pizza but when I look at the calories on the front of the pack and its stupid amount of syns for just a quarter of a slice, I havent been able to bring myself to have it and the pizza remains on the shelf.
I did have my dough pizza base at 22 syns tonight though but didnt enjoy it and mainly ate all the veg it was topped with leaving the pizza base well alone.
Considering I have gone from having at least one pizza every week to about 5 pizzas over the last 16 months since i started SW, i find this a real relevation!
Have other members found this?? i..e is there a food item you never eat now because you just dont enjoy the taste of it but which you used to eat all the time pre-sw?0 -
Pizza with Tomato Topping (Dead Easy!!!)
Syn free on Green Plan + HE for cheese
Packet instant mash
Fry Light
½ Large Tin Chopped Tomatoes
1 Small onion, chopped
Some Passata
Oregano
Pinch of Sweetener
Salt and Pepper
Other toppings
28g per person Cheddar Cheese, grated (HEA)
Ideas: sliced mushrooms, sweetcorn, peppers, onions etc.
Preheat the oven to Gas 6
Spray a flat baking tray with Fry Light.
Make the mash (a little thicker than normal) and spread thinly onto the baking tray and spray again with Fry Light to cover the pizza base. Bake until the base starts to turn brown and crispy – this may take a while.
Meanwhile make the tomato sauce. In a non-stick frying pan add all of the tomato topping ingredients and cook on a fairly high heat. Add more Passata if the mixture dries out. The mixture does need to be fairly thick though and the onions must be cooked.
Spread this on top of the base.
Add your choice of toppings. Spray again with Fry Light and bake for 5-10 minutes – until everything has cooked
Sprinkle the cheese on top and bake until the cheese has melted.
Serve sliced.
Syn free curry sauce. (Delicious)
1 Onion
2 cloves Garlic
1 tsp finely grated ginger
1tbsp hot or med curry powder
400g tin chopped tomatoes
57ml/2fl oz veg stock
2 tbspn sweetener
57g/ 2oz natural yoghurt or Quark/fromage frais
1tbspn chopped mint
1 tbspn chopped coriander
Chop onions and crush garlic. Spray frying pan with fry light and place on heat - add onion, garlic, and ginger and fry for 1-2 mins before adding curry powder.
Stir and cook for another couple of mins then add tomatoes, sweetener and stock.
Bring to boil and reduce heat to simmer gently for 12-15 mins.
Blitz sauce in food processor or with hand blender, and return to heat. Heat gently and add quark/yoghurt/fromage frais and herbs.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
I had a proper pizza about two months ago and didnt really enjoy it as it tasted so stodgy, I used to eat them once a week but I cant stomach them now. I made the potato based on yesterday and though it was a little fiddly the end result was worth it.They have the internet on computers now?! - Homer Simpson

Hope the above pizza base doesn't seem such a faff as the other you've seen - I found it very quick and easy to make.
I do agree with you about the foods which are no longer palatable. I couldn't for the life of me drink full-fat milk any more (yuk). I don't enjoy fried foods and lately, have even lost my cravings for fresh bread............in fact I make my own and never have any of it at allI let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

You could use the bread as a HEB (provided you hadn't already had them all) BUT they will have used some sort of spread on the bread (possibly marg at 5½ syns per level tblspn) and full-fat mayo (at 5 syns per level tblspn) so I think you may have to count around 15 syns even without the bread  (sorry)I let my mind wander and it never came back!0
