LouiseJ, snacking (on the right things) is good!

OH was told by a fitness trainer that people should actually eat 6 times a day (little and often) and actually this is what Slimfast does. There's nothing wrong with it unless you're eating 6 'main meals' a day!
    hi all,
i was on a course a few months ago mon to fri and we had 3 breaks a day and each break i had some kind of SW snack, so with breakfast, break, lunch, break, dinner, supper i was eating 6 times aday and i couldnt believe it when i stepped on the scales at group and id lost 7lbs, yes 7lbs in one week. so it just goes to show that little and often does keep you full and keeps your metabolism burning the fat.
i only wish i could keep it up at home but i cant, mt main problem is not eating and stuffing myself when im starving.

northernlass and nano - can you plan ahead and schedule snacks like you do with meals? Also have lots of grab-it free foods in the fridge so you can have some while you're waiting for something else if you're starving - will stop you reaching for the bad stuff. You really do need to eat little and often.

Well I walked to our local SW last night as I just cant seem to shift the extra weight myself and I only want to lose about a stone. Reading the books I realised that we will be able to eat mainly what we already do but it will make me/us think about the 'extras' we must eat to have put weight on in the first place.

Desserts/chocolate are our downfall so I bought the dessert book and the recipes are lovely in it.

The only thing that disappointed me with the meeting was that I feel the time would be better spent teaching about other things than the weight everyone has lost in the last week. I found it a bit 'boring' to go through every member and hear they had lost 1/2lb or 5lb then the little applauses, which I didnt feel benefited me as a new member. And Im sure that it will put me off staying if I'm not actually learning anything. And it seemed a bit pressured to 'we ask every member to bring something for the raffle basket every week' and 'buy a raffle ticket to help pay for the tea' etc every week. Not that I really mind but it wasnt what I expected for some reason.

So off to the shops to get a few free foods for the fridge.

Anyway I am determined to do this right so what I want to know if anyone knows is how you calculate syns (or free food) for home made bread and home made yogurt made with skimmed milk.

Thankyou and glad to be here.:T

You could be in my group

I've been putting the dwindling numbers down to the credit crunch but for the last 4 weeks the numbers have dropped alarmingly. In all the years I've been a Consultant, I've never had such poor attendance. It's awful for the regulars who are committed, because once the class becomes so small, we lose the 'buzz' that makes it such fun.

If you've any good ideas to make people come (and stay), please share them. It's not a case of not 'twigging', it's more a case of 'what do I do?'

Hmmm, this is an interesting one. I have been going to SW since June and I always stay to group, whether I gain or lose.
The reason I stay is due to the experiences of each member, what they have learnt - it's true that you only get out of group what you are prepared to put into it, and sometimes the conversation can be patchy and samey.
But I have found out so many products that I would be unaware of and shared recipes that have been useful.

I used to do another well known diet, with a WI and a group session and the leader had a "Head Office" prepared story based around a eating habit, or letting things slip etc, etc. And I found this to be a little patronising.
Although I appreciated the message and could often identify with it.

Many people I believe go after weighing, because they are aware of the rules of the eating plan and thats fine, but the wingeing of paying £4.50 for just standing on some scales is really not justified as the support, research and materials certainly have a cost.

So far I have lost 20lbs, which has cost me £90. I call that an investment well made!

P.s I do not work for SW. :D :rotfl:

  • Hello All ,just caught up on the thread and p00's comments about the image therapy after the weigh in really struck a chord with me.
I think I would rather just support and encourage the losers I can't really see the point of clapping someone who has put on weight, or having a discussion with the one lady in our class who is trying to put on weight having got to her target and is now below it.
I just wondered what happended at other classes and maybe it is time for a change to another class.
To be honest I get a lot more out of this forum for information and recipes and really appreciate everyones input, particularly the " old timers" who have been there and done that it really helps having your comments.
I know that if I didn't go and get weighed I wouldn't have the push to make me concentrate on the diet.
I am more than happy with how SW works and do find it a great lifestyle to follow.
Any way bit of a sticky weekend the red wine is calling..............

  • hi all, my group is really quiet only about 12 on a really busy day that stay to group and yes we do the clappy bit ( we dont clap if theyve put on only their total loss) but as its such a small group there is plenty of time to discus how your week has been what youve done differently what your gonna do differently and get tips and recipes off other members.
a friend of mine goes to another group in my home town and the group is so large that the first time the consultant spoke after her initial joining day was to congratulate her on recieving her 4 stone award, now that is bad.
