Hi All,Aldi do a lovely lamb shank free on red - it is the one in Tagine sauce, not the minted one, 2 in pack, can microwave .
Has anyone tried celeraic,(the ugly veg) free on both days, I made sw chips
cut into chips, boil 3 mins, fry light in oven 20 mins.Done this way you can have steak & chips on a red day.
I absolutely adore celeriac mashed! It is soooo good with a big lean steak. And,can I just say, don't be put off by the name (or it's appearance!),it really doesn't taste like celery,it's a lovely subtle aniseed flavour. Also, get one at least double size you'll think you'll need.Believe me,there will be none left!:T:jHalf a stone off, only another 2 to go!:j:T:D;)Cats are truly evil, like women....;):D:p
Was 11 st 5,now 10 st 7,would like to be....9 stone0 -
I like celeriac mashed with an equal amount of potato - the flavour is less obvious (although I do like celeriac, there are times it is quite 'strong') and it makes your mash go further
Also - re meals out - tandoori chicken is good for a red starter, and any shaslik (chicken or lamb chunks charcoal grilled as a skewer, often with pepper and onions) is also quite good.
My local indian restaurant does a vegi starter of a baked whole pepper stuffed with mixed, curried vegetables - just fantastic! If I fancy a green day, I order rice with several vegetable side dishes, a tarka dahl, a chickpea curry or a mixed veg curry - feels like I am having a range of dishes whilst not having too much of anything (so if it is 'naughty', at least the quantity isn't horrific!) or of course a vegetable biriani isn't a terrible choice.....0 -

Hello. big hugs to you :grouphug:
I joined SW after a shopping trip where I discovered I had gone up a dress size
i havent done the online SW so cant comment on this but certainly we will support you on here.
If you cant attend a class they why dont you weigh at boots each week? it would cost you 50p each time but at least it would give you the focus of weighing each week and you can stick the little print outs in your book/write the results in your SW book. also I weighed in boots before I joined (on my Ive gone up a dress size shopping day) and it was such a fab feeling months later when I weighed having lost 1 1/2 stone and comparing the two slips
today you might feel fed up but in time to come you will feel FAB and we are here to support you on your journey :T0 -

Im not much of a cook but I did have my "I want to cook head on today" so I made the Beef Goulash featured in the new SW mag and also the lamb shank recipe featured in the calendar although I substituted the lamb shanks for Mr T healthy eating lamb escalopes as thats all I had.
I followed the recipes adding more veg than listed for my lamb dish and simmered the two meals on my hob for over 2 hours.
Now my OH doesnt eat lamb so he had the goulash and whilst my lamb was nice, it had no real kick or heat to it. I guess if I want it a bit spicy, the trick would be to add curry powder or chillies perhaps?
The main thing though is that BOTH were quite watery and even now they are cold and stuck in the fridge / freezer, they both still seem very watery. For the beef goulash I added 400 ml stock and for the lamb dish 200ml stock (thats what it said to add in the recipe) I thought the longer you cooked something, the thicker the sauce would get but this didnt happen here. Should i just add less stock next time or is there something else Im doing wrong? Oh I added a tin of tomatoes in both cases so there would have been extra water (well tomato juice) here.0 -
Just looking at your diary skint-catt makes me realise i don't drink enough water! I only have tea during the day and prob go over on my milk so tomorrow i think i'll try more water.0

Eric- usually I would drain my tinned tom's a little bit to get rid of the juice and just use the tom's for the thickness.
I made a beef stew the other day and didn't have chopped tom's in so just used passata, stock (bovril) a tbsp gravy powder and added some pepper, spice and a few chilli flakes and it was really nice(and the veg etc)
