Hi Everyone. I just joined last week, so haven't had a weigh in yet. But so far I am liking this way of eating. I used to be on WW and felt so depressed when I ran out of things to eat. Tonight I am having chips with my cheese allowance melted over them and a garlic dip to go with it. All home made. I made a fab quorn lasagne. My only down fall is both Friday and Saturday I had 30 ish syns. (Its the wine). But all during the week, I am still under my total syn allowance. Is this OK, does this work for other people?

I have been attending SW for over a year. When i first started, I stuck to the plan religiously.

At some point, that changed! and at the weekend, I ate (or drank!) more than I was allowed syn wise. This has meant that Im still not at target and our consultant describes members like me as someone who is taking the scenic country road route rather that the more direct motorway route. Im happy though. If i couldnt have the odd treat at the weekend, I think I would go mad.

After getting my 1 1/2 stone award, it all went a bit pear shaped, I kind of lost my motivation with it all and my weight started to creep back up again.... so now Im back on track, im trying to be good at weekends.

Im waffling but the point Im making is that you can deal with your weekend wine in one of a few ways.

    (1) Add up how much wine you are going to drink at the weekend and work out the syn value. deduct this from your weekly syn allowance (i.e. 15 syns x 7 days = 105 syns) and deduct the syn value for your wine. Then whatever is left, divide this between the 7 days and that is your daily syn allowance. I dont think SW advocate "saving up your syns" so that you can binge at the weekend but doing this occasionally especially if you have a night out planned might work for you.

    (2) Dont deprive yourself of your syns during the week but try not to think, oh I have 15 syns, what can i have to get them up to 15 but instead try to stick to syns of 10 - 12. Once you get close to your target, your consultant will recommend cutting your syns back to 10 - 12.

at the weekend when you want to have the wine, flexi syn i.e. say Im going to drink a bottle of wine thats "x" amount of syns so thats my syn allowance for today. then stick to it! the next day you can say I kept in control rather than oh well I blew it last night, might as well carry on.....

weekends are my danger times. I dont know if its because during the week im busy at work and then in the evening too tired to think about eating but what Ive tried to do at weekends recently is plan something yummy to try be it a main or a pudding when you have a bit more time to prepare food etc. Ive drunk more than Im allowed syn wise this weekend but I am trying to cut down.

Misty hugs to you :grouphug: I cried this week too as I put on 1.5lbs after weeks of trying so hard and only losing 0.5lb a time. Sometimes peoples comments can really hurt. My OH knows that last time I did SW I lost 3.5stone in 5 months - he asked me the other day 'why can't you do it this time then?'. That really stung. I don't know why I can't do it this time :(

Do you want to post each days food for us here to have a look at (good or bad days) then we might be able to suggest slight changes, or things you might be missing?

Have you spoken to your consultant yet? Mines always too busy (three classes one after the other) but she did text me this morning. I text her back saying I don't know what I'm doing wrong and its really getting me down but she hasn't replied :( There may be something through my door when I get home (hopefully not fast forward!) as she only lives a few houses up)

    C xx

    Hi there
its taken a while for me to get back to you for which Im sorry. OH decided he wanted to decorate the bathroom so weekend has been pretty much taken up with tile shopping and then preparing bathroom for decorating etc. not my idea of fun but there we go!

Ive noted you said that last time you did SW you lost 3.5 stone in 5 months. unfortunately the body is a strange thing and second time round, I just dont think it happens so fast. we had one member who lost a stone before she joined us and consequentely she had weeks on end where her weight maintained or she gained. She did the fast forward thing and I think that gave her a 2 pound loss the week she did that but generally she struggled with it.

I dont know how much you have left to go until you reach your target but certainly the less you have left to lose, the harder it is to shift.

I think you should get checked out with the doctor as other members have said just to make sure there isnt anything underlying.

I also think you should increase your portions because if you were previously eating more and are now eating less then the body wont like it. It might think you are trying to starve it and will therefore hold on to everything its got meaning your weight loss will slow down.

The pill supposedly means us woman put on weight by increasing our appetite. still havent decided what my take is on that but certainly if you have changed your pill recently then it might be something to look into, your body might be confused. I think it takes about 3 months for the body to get used to new tablets???? so another thing to consider perhaps.

Have a read of confessions of a reformed dieter by a j rochester. she is an australian tv presenter who lost shed loads of weight and her diary/novel make for a very interesting and enlightening read. She didnt follow SW but her diet certainly has echos of it.

ive noticed ive havent seen your food diary for a few days.? even if you are not sticking to the plan, it would be interesting to see it.

variety is the name of the game so each week, try to plan lots of different things for you to try. your body likes surprises. similiarly if you exercise, make sure you vary it because if you follow a certain routine each day then your body gets used to it and wont play ball and will get bored.

if you still have your food diaries from when you did it before or when you have had good weight losses this time round then re-read them. What did you do then that you are not doing now?

I think its important to treat the body now and again so if you fancy a big piece of choc fudge cake then go for it! I have had weeks where I have had the odd naughty thing and Ive still lost!!!

it would also be worth having a chat with your nurse / doctor to see what weight is right for you? my intended target is probably taking it too far according to my nurse so Im having a rethink. We are all built differently etc so its important to be realistic as to what achieable. Your body might be thinking Im happy as I am thank you very much meaning that it wont play ball and allow you to take your SW loss further. Its difficult to comment in this respect without knowing how far you are from your target but its certainly worth having a chat with your doctor or consultant about.

:mad:I'm sad to say the last 3 weigh ins I have gained as follows
    09/09 I did lose 1 1/2lb's
    16/09 1.5lb's
    23/09 0.5lb's
    30/09 0.5lb's
I have had a really good week this last week before WI, lots of healthy home made soups for lunch. But I have had mostly green days and been eating a lot of past/noodles/potatoes, I think because I suffer from PCOS I need to have more red days but find that meat is so expensive for decent stuff. Since I started SW in April my weight loss comes in peaks and troughs, sometimes I am a bit naughty and lose 21/2 lb's(the most I've ever lost, even more than 1st week), then others like last week I'm really good and put on. My sis suggested some gains could be due to "star week", but don't have "star week" as such coz of contrcaeptive pill taken.

Please, please can some one give me a shake, I actually burst in to tears when OH asked how I got on at WI, and sis jokingly said "you must be eating in secret" quite gutted that she would even suggest this even in jest.

Sorry for the rant just needed to get it off my chest and I am right back to plan.

Well done ALV, did you feel hungry when you done FF, if so how'd you cope? Well done everyone else too!:j
    Cheers

    hello there.
have a read of the post Ive just made in reply to Skint Catt as some of what i have said in that post would also apply to you. our consultant says that she has members who put as much as half a stone on when its star week so thats something to be considered. Only you know if you are sticking to the plan 100% and quite honestly I would stick two fingers up at your sister and tell her to mind her own.

the body is a complicated thing and what works for one person doesnt work for someone else. i.e. the annoying person who comes to class, says they went out for that yummy curry, had the choc fudge cake whilst out for sunday lunch but still registeres a lost of 3 pounds

but it is important to treat the body now and again and I look upon it like this. a typical monday meal for me pre SW would be mccain chips, breaded chicken, beans and onion rings and a yummy desert from m&S. now its SW jacket chips, eggs and 85g HEB ham!!! and a muller light.

from one pizza at least a week ive gone to about 5 a year!

i go over my syns at the weekend and that I need to work on but overall, Im eating much healthier than I ever have done. Like Skint catt said in one of her more recent posts, she was making SW choices without realising it!

Its important to take a step back and realise that you are making changes for the better and give yourself a pat on the back.

its not going to happen overnight. who hasnt gone to bed and wanted to wake up the next day having lost all that excess weight ? SW is not a diet its a lifetime approach to healthy eating and quite simply the slower it takes to come off, the longer its going to stay off. a healthy loss is 1 or 1 1/2 pounds a week and your losses should not be looked upon on a weekly basis but over a monthly basis.

i mentioned previously that if you are having green days, you need much more fluid.

its worth speaking to your doctor or nurse to tell them you are doing SW if you have not already done so to see if your PCOS will affect your weight loss. i.e whether your pcos will make it more difficult for you.

i think that unless you have been to slimming world got the t-shirt etc then you have very little understanding or appreciation of how upsetting it is seeing those scales go upwards not downwards. they never say the right thing, either offering you that plate of biscuits along with not having any sweetners but sugar will do or saying you look fine as you are. some of our members dont tell people they are following SW but simply say they cant eat such and such because they are allergic to it if you see what I mean. I understand restaurants etc are much more likely to listen if they think someone is allergic to something rather than they dont want butter on their spud because they are following SW.

have a read of the first few pages of your food op book - those lovely superfree foods (foods free on both red and green). aim to eat 6 to 8 portions of these each day, ensuring that you vary your Healthy extras. try to keep your syns to 10-12. also as I mentioned to skint catt, have a look at your food diaries (if you have them) from when you had really good losses to see what you did then compared to what you are doing now. Make sure you eat enough and dont starve yourself. Starving yourself will have the opposite effect as your body will complain and will retain weight.
i hope some of this and what I have said to skint catt helps. we are here if you need us.
  • Evenin all..

Well, I have two days to undo the effect of the weekend.

There was good news and bad news - the good news was that when WE were in control of the food, we made great choices, and this meant that we had a lovely meal out for DH's birthday :D Oysters, marinated herrings, bream yum yum yum :)

the bad news is that on Saturday night, we were at a friends house being 'treated' to a 5 course italian themed meal   . They have *always* undermined our attempts at weight loss (they are getting bigger and claim that 'no diets work for them'), but this was probably their best yet. Don't get me wrong - it was delicious, and they had put in a *huge* amount of effort and expense... but slimming it was not.. the menu:
    1. crostini with either 'caviar' or truffle butter (3 each, I ate 2) 2. braised red peppers 3. homemade pasta with anchovies, capers and breadcrumbs 4. breadcrumbed lamb chops with a parmagiana (deep fried veg layered with tomatoes and vast amounts of cheese, baked) 5. affogato (espresso over vanilla ice cream)
all washed down with an array of fabulous wines ...

It is very hard to follow SW when you are eating at someone elses house..... :o

So the next 2 days will be very strict (without resorting back to FF!!) and trying to undo the (inevitable) damage

I am a lurker on this thread (and very occasional poster) but really wanted to tell you Flat Eric how impressed I am by the advice that you give. :A I look forward to your posts as there always seems to be something in there that is so relevant to me!
Have you ever considered becoming a SW consultant - I would travel miles to come to your class!

    Hi FlatEric,

Thanks very much for your reply, what you say makes so much sense. As I've been keeping my food diary these past few days, it is becoming apparent that if I go out or to others houses for tea etc I do sturggle to stick 100% to SW, but now I have realised this I am going to try to make more educated choices.

Anyway, here's Saturdays food, V bad day was at B'day party and used it as excuse tp binge, however I did count my syns:p
Breakfast - 1oz porrige, milkHEa, cup of tea

    Dinner - lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, couscous, veg bhaji(3syns), 2xAsda sausage rolls mini(6Syns), 2 Vodkas(5Syns) with diet lemonade(free)

    Total syns = 14.5
