Hey, insincere, you can't give up - you gotta be my slimming buddy!

Like a few people have said, not *everyone* has a big loss the first week. I think the most I have lost in a week is 2lb and mostly I do 0.5-1lb a week. When I did SW before I lost 2 stone, but it took me a year to do it. Now I don't do the plan 100%, so that doesn't help, but I did it in a way that I could maintain for that year, that wasn't so restrictive that 2 weeks in I thought sod it and headed for the chips!

And you must have your syns (because they will help stop you thinking sod it and heading for the chips LOL) and also your healthy extras. The clue is in the name there - they are there to keep you healthy. If you don't have your HEAs long term you risk serious damage to teeth and bones, so eat that darn cheese, girl! And you need protein in your diet if you are doing green and starch in your diet if you are doing red. Cutting HEs will NOT speed your weight loss, it will inhibit it, so eat them!

If you don't want to have syns as things like chocolate and crisps (I can't stop once I start, so it's safer for me to steer clear) then you can do what I tend to do, and use them for a bit of ketchup or olive oil to make things taste better, or the odd packet sauce when I am tired from work and can't face cooking from scratch, or to allow myself a bit of leeway when eating out.

So please persevere - it gets easier once you get the hang of it, and do eat what you are allowed to eat.

So Ive bought some slimming world books from Ebay and am trying to get my head round the diet with the books and the info thats on the SW website. Its a bit confusing though!

Hope Ive got it right otherwise I am going to just give up trying!!!

The easiest way to see the plan 'in action' is to buy the magazine. There is always a 7 day menu plan in there using foods most of us have in the cupboards already. It will help you see how to put everything together to make healthy, filling meals which can be enjoyed by the whole family :)

My post was likely to turn into an essay, so I've split it - hope you don't mind.

I've had a weekend away, which has been interesting! I started off Saturday with scrambled eggs and a small slice (40g) of wholemeal toast. Had lunch at motorway services, and went for roast chicken with mash (planned to leave) and peas (asked for no gravy) with a view to a red day, and was half way through my peas before I realised I couldn't have them on red! As the chicken looked like it had been to SW (!) and didn't have much meat on it, I changed tack and had peas and mash for green (but left half the mash as it was packet stuff and vile). Snack of grapes and pear, then pub evening meal of veggie (courgette, peppers, courgette, tomato) pasta with grated mozzarella (maybe not syn free, but probably not too bad). It all fell apart later at the theatre when it got to 9.30 and I was starving and the only food available was a Magnum. But I didn't have the red wine I was planning on treating myself to! So I probably maxxed out my syns, maybe a little more, but not too bad.

Today it was eggs, baked beans and plum tomatoes on toast for breakfast, then grilled chicken, baked potato and salad for lunch. The eggs wouldn't have been dry fried, so syns there, and the salad had vinegrette on. The potato had butter, but I took it off before it had a chance to melt, so hopefully not too much damage done. Will go totally free tonight to try to make up!

So I've done my best, but have discovered that eating out is a bit of a minefield. Still, we had a nice weekend, and I rowed for half an hour and we walked miles and miles, so hopefully not too much damage done.

Ok have bitten the bullet and signed up. Went to my first class last night. I joined on the scheme where you prepay and get 12 weeks for the price of 10 - I need to do this to keep me committed or chances or with a bad result I would quit - I know what I am like. So today I have listed my food intake below - is it right? Feel v full

28g fruit/fibre with ss milk and banana
flavoured cottage cheese with salad and 4 sesame ryvita
    mullerlight and banana
full tin of bean and 2 poached eggs

Could not eat another thing now to be honest. And also can I ask what is the deal about drinking lots of water - I have seen a few of you mentioning this.

    Thanks

Your plan looks great but don't forget you're allowed between 5 and 15 syns a day. If you don't want to get into eating chocolate etc, you can use the syns to add extra mayo, sauces etc to make your meals more satisfying. Not using your syns won't help long-term as you're more likely to give up if you begin to feel deprived.

The thing with water?.................well, read on:-

The potion for losing that excess body fat is all around you. It covers two thirds of the planet. If you eat right and exercise at the intensity, frequency and duration proper for you, but still can’t get rid of a little paunch here and there, you’re probably just not drinking enough water.
No need to get defensive. You’re actually quite normal. Most people don’t drink enough water. Most people are also carrying around a few more pounds than they would be if they did drink enough water. If you can’t seem to get that weight off, try drowning your sorrows in nature’s magical weight-loss mineral. It works, and here’s why:

There are many forms of metabolism going on in your body right now, but the one everyone is talking about it the metabolism of fat. This is actually something that the liver does when it converts stored fat to energy. The liver has other functions, but this is one of its main jobs.
Unfortunately, another of the liver’s duties is to pick up the slack for the kidneys, which need plenty of water to work properly. If the kidneys are water-deprived, the liver has to do their work along with its own, lowering its total productivity. It then can’t metabolise fat as quickly or efficiently as it could when the kidneys were pulling their own weight. If you allow this to happen, not only are you being unfair to your liver, but you’re also setting yourself up to store fat.

Water will do wonders for your looks! It flushes out impurities in your skin, leaving you with a clear, glowing complexion. It also makes your skin look younger. Skin that is becoming saggy, either due to aging or weight loss, plumps up very nicely when the skin cells are hydrated.
In addition, it improves muscle tone. You can lift weights until you’re blue in the face, but if your muscles are suffering from a drought, you won’t notice a pleasant difference in your appearance. Muscles that have all the water they need contract more easily, making your workout more effective, and you’ll look much nicer than if you had flabby muscles under sagging skin.

When you drink all the water you need, you will very quickly notice a decrease in your appetite, possibly even on the first day! If you're serious about becoming leaner and healthier, drinking water is an absolute must. If you're doing everything else right and still not seeing results, this might just what's missing
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

I think you did really well considering the fact that you ate out all weekend. You're right, it is a minefield, but you negotiated the mines well :D The Magnum was not such a faux pas at 13 syns for the classic milk one - well within the days allowance. It's quite possible the vinegrette was free too!

Well done, you should be proud and I really hope the scales show the loss you deserve (if they don't this week, I'm sure they will next).

Yes, I've looked up the fried eggs and vinaigrette (as near as I can estimate) and butter is apparently 2 per tsp and I didn't get close to that, so I think I've done OK. The magnum had to happen or I'd have spent the whole second half of Hamlet with my tummy rumbling. ("Alas, poor Yorick" grrrrrrrruuummmmbbblllle "I knew him, Horatio" grrrruuuummmbbbllle - don't think it would have gone down too well LOL).
  • The best rices to use for risotto are arborio or carnoroli - they release a starch as they are cooked, creating the characteristic sauce, whilst keeping a little 'bite' in the centre.

If you have long grain or basmati rices, you are better looking for a method that oven bakes - it won't be risotto, but it will probably be a very tasty, similar alternative ;) . Alternatively, use them in an indian biriani where they are perfect.

thank you, i will try this next time, i love risotto but it always comes out like a gloopy mess

Beachbeth, what is it that worries you about going to a group? Everyone there is in the same boat with the same aims. When I started a few weeks ago, I considered joining online but it was too expensive and I'd have been doing it alone. I went on my own and soon got talking to the others. There's plenty of help and encouragement, and it's good to be weighed by someone else and told that you've lost a couple of pounds. Also, you'll get the latest SW books. :D

Im so shy! Ive suffered with depression for years and am lacking in confidence. Im just no good at talking to new people. Also (and this is going to sound silly!) Im worried that I won't be considered overweight enough! But I do need to lose at least a stone. My waist is 32" which puts me at increased risk of diabetes and things!

I'll give this a try. Can you get them from newsagents or do you have to order them from Slimming World?
