I'm sorry you feel like that insincere...
I certainly didn't lose lots in my first week, as you can see, my weight loss on SW has been very slow (look at my stats below!), but it is weight lost whilst eating a healthy, balanced diet where I am never hungry and I can eat huge portions of the right stuff.
People who lose a lot in the first week often have had to make an enormous change to their diet, and remember, it is only water that they have lost - a regular weight loss of 1 - 2 lb a week is what you get even if you make a significant loss in the first week.
Have you changed straight from CD to SW? If this is the case, I am sure this would affect your rate of initial loss.
Please don't calorie count as well - there is no need to if you follow the SW diet. Out of interest, you talk about restricting yourself to the free foods - are you using your 1or 2 A's and 2 B's every day? How are you using your syns, roughly how many do you use each day? I notice that we have very similar starting weights, I was advised that I would see a steady weight loss if I aimed for 10 - 12 syns a day, although of course I was allowed to use anywhere between 5 and 15.
As you say, you have only been following the plan for 5 days - who knows what another few days (let alone few weeks) could achieve. I also weigh in on Tuesday, and as of today, I have lost nothing this week (if my scales are to be believed), but by tuesday it usually shows a loss, this week I am hoping for 1lb+. It takes a little while to get your head into this way of eating, and I know that you have had a few hiccups this first few days, but surely, a slow regular weight loss whilst eating real portions of real food is better than CD?
(a very good friend of mine had great sucess with CD btw, so I would never slag it off, but she has found it really hard to adapt back to 'real' food whilst maintaining her loss. SW has the advantage that it teaches you from the very beginning how to eat healthily for the long term.)0 -
Insincere - not everyone has huge losses. I did this time, but the first time I didn't and then put on in the 2nd week! My OH put on in his first week when he joined me this time, but has done well since. I don't doubt the CD works but its not a lifelong eating plan and SW does work if you give it a go. Free foods only won't give you a balanced diet either and you're more likely to fail if you don't have your syns and HE's.
Give it the four weeks (you get your money back if you don't lose in that time) and see what a difference it can make.

My weigh in is on tuesday, but im 5 days in and ive lost 0.5lb so far which for my first week is bloody pathetic. I dont think this diet is working for me as everyone seems to loose 7lb the first week and ive lost f all so far. I think i might go back to the cambridge diet because at least that works. Or ill have to stick to this, and eat just free foods and count the calories so i dont go over 1500 a day.
Don't give up!!!! Not 'everyone' has a huge weightloss in their first week, just read back through this thread for proof of that and in any case everyone is different and has differing amounts to lose etc.
We're all here for you, this site has been an amazing support for myself and lots of others. Everyone gets frustrated from time to time but trust me this plan really does work, I've been doing it since April and have just got my 3 stone award and feel so much better for it. Everyone makes mistakes along the way (even if they don't always own up to it) especially in the beginning, but I'd say give it a little longer before deciding to ditch it and go back to CD. I personally, couldn't imagine surviving on that a restricted diet, although I know others will disagree. I find my weight fluctuates enormously over the week anyway and I find if you just go by your 'WEEKLY' WI then there is usually a loss. Chin up.When Life Throws You Lemons Make Lemonade0 -
I've been being really good and not having the extras an ive had 14 syns in 5 days so thats going really well. 12 were froma glass of wine yesterday which was a silly idea and the other two have been accidental from tomato puree. Ive had couscous for dinner but i didnt try the cake yet so i didnt screw that one up.
Ive been eating all free other than that. Ive had no A or B choices for days and yet im not loosing and im just worried.
I did the CD a few years ago and lost 4 stone in 3 months. It was brilliant. Its fine for weight loss but it isnt a way of life. I was planning on doing it and than when id lost the weight going to slimming world to keep the weight off, but i went to a slimming world meeting at home in essex and the woman shouted at me and called me a stupid girl for doing the cambridge diet so i left in tears.
I thought id try it now, but im being really good and it just hasnt seemed to have started. I need to lose 2 stone quickly as my doctor wont give me the contraceptive pill i like as im obese.SW Started 27/08/0868.5 lb to LooseSo far lost 18lb - 06/09/08

Hi
Please keep sticking to eating plan for a couple of weeks, before giving up. I think you need to embrace the idea that SW is a healthy eating plan..not a diet...you don't starve on this eating plan and you get a varied, balanced diet.
All your healthy extras are there for a reason and should be consumed. I lost 2lbs in my first week and was gutted as i had stuck 100% to it, however the following weeks I lost 2lbs, 3lbs, 2lbs ect
Your body has to get used to a new eating plan and settle down. Just like when people say they have put on after starting exercise..the body just needs time to adjust.
Please stick around. Have you got some sw magazines? I have some old ones from last year and would be happy to post to you for recipe inspiration and success stories.

Aww thank you, the mags would be awesome. I really like the one thats out now, the Hummous recipe is a life saver for me.
Im really enjoying not feeling guilty about eating for the first time in years (im a recovering bulemic) but being healthy isnt good enough unless i loose weight enough to be at a healthy bmi. Im 15 stone and want to be 11 by next spring. It seems that on average peope loose a stone in two months, but im just worried i wont be the same.SW Started 27/08/0868.5 lb to LooseSo far lost 18lb - 06/09/08

Ive just started the SW diet (as of yesterday!) I am terrified at the idea of going to a group, even though the price seems reasonable. I wanted to join online instead and its £60!!! for 3 months which I can't afford as you have to pay it all at once! I know its not allowed for someone to tell me the SW password so can someone help with a few points please
Beachbeth, what is it that worries you about going to a group? Everyone there is in the same boat with the same aims. When I started a few weeks ago, I considered joining online but it was too expensive and I'd have been doing it alone. I went on my own and soon got talking to the others. There's plenty of help and encouragement, and it's good to be weighed by someone else and told that you've lost a couple of pounds. Also, you'll get the latest SW books.0 -

Reading between the lines, this means that for four days you had no (or nearly no) syns, and yesterday you had 12.
For regular weight loss the plan states that you should have between 5 and 15 a day. On most days you are not having enough syns!! There is nothing wrong with the 12 you had yesterday. There are many people in my class who have none one week for whatever reason, and do not lose weight.
Also, you *must* try to have your A and B choices every day. Don't think of them as naughty extras, instead build them into your meals - they are the element of the plan that gives balance of nutrients - again, without them you will find your weight loss slows massively.
Without your A and B choices and your syns, you are not truly following SW and will not get the weight loss you deserve from eating healthily in all other ways.
Good luck - you CAN do this!0 -

You've had lots of excellent, sensible answers already so I won't labour the point except to say that if you're going to follow the plan, you've got to follow it 100% not pick and choose the bits that suit you.
Counting calories is not what SW is about at all so forget them.
You should give it 4 weeks to see a proper result. Your weight didn't increase overnight, it's completely unrealistic to expect it to decrease overnight.
Stick with Food Optimising 100% and I personally guarantee you will lose weight, hows that?I let my mind wander and it never came back!0
