In the latest magazine - August, someone mentions no syn quiche. Could you tell me how to do this please? Thanks for your help. :cheesy:

    Hello
I dont remember seeing this in the new mag but then I havent read it properly yet. I did however make the flan which was in the July 08 mag (I think). I adapted the recipe to suit me and you could do the same.

Basicially fry (with fry light) your choice of filling. I was on a red day so used sainsburys bacon medalions and a mix of veg - mushrooms, peppers, chillis, spring onions, red onion, white onion. Mix up 4 eggs and a 250g pot of quark. Add part cooked veg/bacon to egg and quark mix and pour into dish. sprinkle over 28g cheese.Put in preheated over (I did it 180 fan assisted) for 25 mins, took out, put a smiley face on the top using leftover veg and put it back in the oven for about another 20 mins.

It was actually quite tasty and even better cold (which I was surprised at).

I am so glad to see Consultant31 around - I need you please!!!:A

I went to WI last night and I have stayed the same. I've lost 1.5 stone since end March which I AM pleased with but given that I honestly DO stick to the plan and do loads of exercise as well, why do I stay the same some weeks?

I have only put on one week since I've been going (and that was just half a pound) which I am also pleased about because some people go up and down like yo-yos. So I think I'm doing things OK.

I spoke to the consultant and her suggestions were: record everything daily (which I do religiously), and drink more water.

I seem to stick one week and then the next maybe lose a pound or pound and a half. I am making loads of Free meals and enjoying them and have been out twice in the last week to functions where I was able to choose all the healthy stuff and ignored double cream, cakes and so on!!

It annoys me a bit that some people seem to spend just a couple of days a week "on plan" and then come to group and inform us of all the naughty things they've had and they still LOSE weight.
They say things like "well I'm pleased I've lost 2 lbs because I've had fish and chips, loads of booze and an Indian curry".

Our "pep talk" last night was about being positive at group (because our consultant felt that the week before there was a "negative" air about the group) but I find this kind of "trying to trick the plan" very negative. In fact I think I'll tell her this next time - what do you think?

    Hello
I just wanted to share my thoughts on your post. Hope thats ok.

Firstly our consultants says of people who come to class, have stuck to the plan 100% but have either maintained or put on is that if you are sticking to the plan religiously then the weight will come off and you should look at your weight loss over the whole month, not just the individual week.

You say you keep a note of everything. This can be useful to help identify any hidden syns. For example a well known brand of something may be free, but the shop's own make might not be although sub consciously you think it is if you see what i mean. For example some quorn products are superfree but supermarket own make vegetarian meals/options can be/are really high in syns.

Yes its important to drink lots of water, especially if you are having lots of green days.

Variety is the name of the game both for food and your exercise. I read a book called Confessions of a Reformed Dieter By A J Rochester. She is an australian comediane who has lost endless amounts of weight and her story and the things she was told to do in her effort to lose weight very much echoes the principles of slimming world. Her fitness instructor told her to vary her exercise because the body likes being surprised. Are you working towards your body magic awards? this is something i have never done.....

I always try to vary my diet and the foods i eat, plannng my menus, sometimes 2 weeks in advance. I always plan little treats, or try new things so that I am never bored although I dont think I could ever get bored of jacket chips.

I also think its important that if you fancy that bit of chocolate cake then have it. If overall you are eating much better then the odd treat now and again is not going to hurt !
From what you say about your weight loss since you started, I think you have done extremely well and deserve a great big gold star :D

    Hi Flat Eric -

Essentailly you make a choice based on what is more important to you......
lots of chips, limited burger (green), or
Lots of burger/bacon etc and limited chips (red).....

Remember, 400g of potatoes goes quite a long way depending on the size that you cut your chips into - long, fat and chunky, less chips - short and thin, loadsa chips!

As an aside, I have started to crinkle cut my SW chips (with my ancient crinkle cutter) as it makes them extra crispy!!! yummmmmmmy

Thank you very much. Thats really helpful. I am very intrigued with your crinkle cutter. jacket chips have been the best discover since i joined sw!

Hello all. I hope you don't mind me joining in but I read these posts and find them very helpful. I am wondering if anyone can please help me and give me a bit of support at the same time?
My son has just joined the Marines and I am missing him SO much :(- it is awful and much harder than I thought it would be and I have just eaten so much this last week and I am assuming it is comfort eating in part.
Also, I am a veggie who doesn't eat mushrooms, meat, fish and eggs. Tonnes of the recipes I see all include eggs and I wonder if anyone has any tips or ideas for me please - I need to keep busy and although I still lost this week at WI I will be flying by the seat of my pants to lose this week with all the rubbish I am flinging down my neck!
    Any advice/support muchly appreciated!!!!
Oh but on a positive my exercise bike comes tomorrow and I am going to make myself use it as otherwise it is too much money to waste!!! :rotfl:

In one of the SW mags, there is a recipe for quorn pie. Of course I cant remember which mag it was in so you can imagine what I will be doing tomorrow!! Basicially it involves I think quorn mince mixed with peppers and i think a tin of tomatoes and then on top is sweet potato and normal potato sliced. If you have made it and can give it the thumbs up or thumbs down then please let me know.

A lot of the SW members I know say quorn can be quite tasteless so any tips on how to make quorn edible would be appreciated!!a

Hi Flat Eric thanks for taking the time to reply....... Well, I am also a pain in that I don't eat anything that is the same texture of meat such as meat replacement products like Quorn etc. I am a pain but I have been like this for 44 years and managed until now so hey ho..... Thanks again for replying!:T

    Hello
Welcome to the board. You will find yourself very welcome here as everyone is very friendly.

I will probably have to think about food given your dislikes so will come back to you on that. What i would say is why not take up a new hobby? Say cross stitch? as something like this would keep your fingers out of the biscuit tin and also keep your mind occupied. or perhaps card making? or puzzles? like those japanese puzzles? or are there any adult education classess you could join say something obscure like a new language or belly dancing or salsa dancing (something ive always fancied). or do you enjoy reading? I enjoy lots of things - just dont have the time to do them!

As for menus, will have a think but in the interim, have a look at the weekly menu you find in the SW mag to see if there is anything there that takes your fancy or which you could adapt :D

I tell you what I do make and it is very popular! I fry in frylight leeks and then add to that passatta and any veg I have (or chuck in some frozen veg if necessary) sweetcorn anything really. Then add to that bouillion powder to taste and any other seasoning to suit folk. Then when it is all cooked up (in a wok type of cooking pot) I add a couple of spoons of very low fat cream cheese to make it all creamy and lovely. I then use that over pasta or jacket pots or use it as a base for veg shepherds pie and also it makes a lovely pie filling.
