Hi Everyone,
I ache today! however I figure short term pain, long term gain! And I guess it will get easier each week. I like Scary ScroogeyI'm sure that a few people would find it an apt description
Met my mate I joined slimming world with today and we went for a mooch round the shops. I ended up getting 3 shirts and 3 pairs in the M&S sale, and delighted that a size 18 fits!!! The shirts I wear for work are M&S size 22 when I started SW they were getting a bit tight (ok the buttons were straining!) round the middle when I sat down. They hang off me now :j:j
I'm over the moon, was just a bit gutted M&S didn't have any of the jackets to match my trousers in my size.
You guys are a big inspiration, and help keep me on track and are there as a sounding board for how I really feel but can't always have the courage to say in group. So a big pat on the back for you all :T:T:T
And one final good note........... I got out of bed no problem this morning!!!0 -
Kelly, i agree with you regarding the lack of vitamins and minerals in our intensively exploited soils. There was something out in the news relatively recently about vegetables containing far fewer nutrients than back in the 50s before intensive agriculture was the norm.
I sometimes take vitamin supplements or 'tonics' to give me a boost in the winter but not anything specifically aimed at slimmers. Could you try that super speedy week that jasperbrowndog did recently (can't remember the name off hand)?
BISCOTTE - I eat organic produce as much as I can afford (I usually have a large box of veg and a fruit box from a box scheme every week) and I try to eat 4 - 10 portions of fruit and veg per day.Today I've had strawberries, cherries,an orange,2 apricots plus tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms and peppers with my quorn fillets dinner.i've still got 2 plums,a large slice of watermelon and a peach to get through! We are all very regular in our house!!!:T:jHalf a stone off, only another 2 to go!:j:T:D;)Cats are truly evil, like women....;):D:p

Hi everyone :hello: I joined SW today and have been reading the books trying to get used to it. I've tried loads of times to lose weight, not very successfully. I'm feeling enthusiastic at the moment. I was disappointed the SW website doesn't have a forum so I'm really happy to see this one here, it's great. I've been on MSE for a while and didn't know it was here - probably wouldn't have thought of looking for it while I was eating all the chocolate and cream cakes.
Just off to use up some syns on a nice glass of wine.

Hello consultant31. I am making burgers tomorrow so strictly thats a red day meal. my OH is having fish and chips for tea tonight and on checking online, 100g of McCain Home Fries are 6.5 syns. So I weighed out 100g of chips and it amounted to about 6 chips so Im sticking with my HEB Jacket potato and the chicken which Ive been marinating in lemon juice, lemon zest and spices.
Anyway back to the point of my question. If I have a red day tomorrow, I can only have at most 400g odd of potatoes to make jacket chips to go with my burgers so should I have a green day meaning I can have endless jacket chips and have the burgers as my HEB option? I have never known how to syn potato if it is possible?
Hi and sorry I didn't see your post till now. It depends on whether you want lots of burger or lots of chips of course, but potatoes can be synned if you wanted to.
On a red day they need to have the skins on to count as a HEB, so you could have your 227gms (old pots) as one HEB (or of course 454gms as 2 HEBs) and any more you count 1 syn per 28gm (fried the SW way).
So, in effect you can have loads for very few syns :j ..............enjoy!
Kelly, I see what you're saying and I agree about the loss of nutrients in our soil. If you feel these supplements would help, give them a try. I just think they are essentially diuretics which give you a temporary 'weight loss'. It looks ok on the scales but it's only water and therefore only short-term (good if you want to fit into that little dress for a special occasion perhaps).I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
Hello everyone! I have been following SW on a different forum but am essentially skint, so think its best if I join here too! Is this the right place to post slimming-worls style baragains? Here goes anyway - Sainsburys basics pasta & sauce, dried, tomato and onion, 2 syns for the packet @ 23p, and Sainsburys are doing mullerlights @ 54p on BOGOF at the moment!0

I am so glad to see Consultant31 around - I need you please!!!:A
I went to WI last night and I have stayed the same. I've lost 1.5 stone since end March which I AM pleased with but given that I honestly DO stick to the plan and do loads of exercise as well, why do I stay the same some weeks?
I have only put on one week since I've been going (and that was just half a pound) which I am also pleased about because some people go up and down like yo-yos. So I think I'm doing things OK.
I spoke to the consultant and her suggestions were: record everything daily (which I do religiously), and drink more water.
I seem to stick one week and then the next maybe lose a pound or pound and a half. I am making loads of Free meals and enjoying them and have been out twice in the last week to functions where I was able to choose all the healthy stuff and ignored double cream, cakes and so on!!
It annoys me a bit that some people seem to spend just a couple of days a week "on plan" and then come to group and inform us of all the naughty things they've had and they still LOSE weight.
They say things like "well I'm pleased I've lost 2 lbs because I've had fish and chips, loads of booze and an Indian curry".
Our "pep talk" last night was about being positive at group (because our consultant felt that the week before there was a "negative" air about the group) but I find this kind of "trying to trick the plan" very negative. In fact I think I'll tell her this next time - what do you think?0 -
Just a thought Penny, but are your stay-the-same weeks on a four-ish week cycle? Many people gain weight in this pattern (mother nature doing her thing again!), but if you are behaving on the plan, perhaps your cycle is simply negating the loss you could have made?
If this is the case, then more water will help those weeks, as will simply reaslising what it is, and not getting upset by it...
(I will say that whilst I do not menstruate, I still have this type of pattern 4 or 5 weekly for myself - worth a check?)0 -
In the latest magazine - August, someone mentions no syn quiche. Could you tell me how to do this please? Thanks for your help. :cheesy:0

EMMA - There are some 'quiche' recipes on page 100 of this thread, don't get your hopes up if you're a pastry fiend though! You'll also find lots of curry and dinner recipes on page 99.
