  • Just a thought Penny, but are your stay-the-same weeks on a four-ish week cycle? Many people gain weight in this pattern (mother nature doing her thing again!), but if you are behaving on the plan, perhaps your cycle is simply negating the loss you could have made?

If this is the case, then more water will help those weeks, as will simply reaslising what it is, and not getting upset by it...

(I will say that whilst I do not menstruate, I still have this type of pattern 4 or 5 weekly for myself - worth a check?)

This is in the latest magazine and looks really nice:

    Beef in Oyster Sauce

Cook 1lb 2oz/511g lean beef strips in Fry Light for 2-3 minutes. Remove and set aside. Cook 6 chopped spring onions, 4 sliced garlic cloves, 1 chopped chilli, 2 chopped red peppers and 7oz/198g broccolli florets in Fry Light for 4-5 minutes. Add 2 tbsp soy sauce and 2 tbsp passata and continue to cook for 3-4 minutes. Add 3-4 level tbsp oyster sauce and return the beef to the pan for a further 3-4 minutes, or until piping hot.

Serves 4: ½Syn per serving on Original

I am so glad to see Consultant31 around - I need you please!!!:A

I went to WI last night and I have stayed the same. I've lost 1.5 stone since end March which I AM pleased with but given that I honestly DO stick to the plan and do loads of exercise as well, why do I stay the same some weeks?

I have only put on one week since I've been going (and that was just half a pound) which I am also pleased about because some people go up and down like yo-yos. So I think I'm doing things OK.

I spoke to the consultant and her suggestions were: record everything daily (which I do religiously), and drink more water.

I seem to stick one week and then the next maybe lose a pound or pound and a half. I am making loads of Free meals and enjoying them and have been out twice in the last week to functions where I was able to choose all the healthy stuff and ignored double cream, cakes and so on!!

It annoys me a bit that some people seem to spend just a couple of days a week "on plan" and then come to group and inform us of all the naughty things they've had and they still LOSE weight.
They say things like "well I'm pleased I've lost 2 lbs because I've had fish and chips, loads of booze and an Indian curry".

Our "pep talk" last night was about being positive at group (because our consultant felt that the week before there was a "negative" air about the group) but I find this kind of "trying to trick the plan" very negative. In fact I think I'll tell her this next time - what do you think?

Well it's nice to be needed :D . I always remind members what a wonderful, but complicated machine the human body is. Sometimes it does things we can't explain (like your maintain when you really don't deserve it) but as long as you overall pattern is to be losing around 4-8lbs a month, that is exactly what the healthy, sustainable loss is supposed to be. If you lose weight faster you run the risk of losing lean muscle tissue which will upset your metabolism, making it harder to lose weight at all.

Those very annoying people who come to group and gloat about their weight loss after stuffing themselves with McDs etc (and there's at least one in every group) only ever seem to lose ½ stone or so before packing up and leaving, only to rejoin again in a few months - so you're much better off than them in the long run.

Your slower weight loss also gives you time to really learn new habits which will stand you in good stead for the rest of your life, whereas, again, those who still have rubbish never seem to learn. Don't forget that apart from getting you a new, slimmer figure, food optimising also makes you much healthier all round, energy to spare.

Star weeks can have a major effect on some women, (sometimes for 2 weeks every month) and can cause fluid retention of up to 4lbs  - extra water can help here and plenty of speed foods.

You're doing great so keep doing what you're doing and enjoy it. Everybody's different and you really should try not to compare yourself to others, (though I know this is easier said than done) remember the story of the tortoise and the hare :rotfl:
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

:iloveyou: Consultant31!! :A :A I have read and re-read your reply and every word makes SUCH sense. Thank you SO much.

I'm just looking at my weight loss record and I have lost 7 lbs in the last month, and 6 or 7 lbs other months. You're right about changing the eating habits too - my friend and I were both saying this last night (she's lost just over a stone and for her that's superb because she is a crisp/choc person and she has at last curbed this!). In the past if I tried to lose weight I used to get a bit fed up and think "oh well I'll treat myself to something.":p I never, ever do that now.

Regarding the star weeks - I'm on HRT patches and without getting too technical I do, but I don't if you get my drift?? I will take a look at my calendar though.

I've drunk a lot more water today and will continue to do that now. You're right I do feel really healthy and I have masses of energy as well which is great. Thanks again for all your help and I'm sure your class is a great success. :T :T Are we allowed to ask where you are?

Hi and sorry I didn't see your post till now. It depends on whether you want lots of burger or lots of chips of course, but potatoes can be synned if you wanted to.

On a red day they need to have the skins on to count as a HEB, so you could have your 227gms (old pots) as one HEB (or of course 454gms as 2 HEBs) and any more you count 1 syn per 28gm (fried the SW way).
So, in effect you can have loads for very few syns :j ..............enjoy!

Kelly, I see what you're saying and I agree about the loss of nutrients in our soil. If you feel these supplements would help, give them a try. I just think they are essentially diuretics which give you a temporary 'weight loss'. It looks ok on the scales but it's only water and therefore only short-term (good if you want to fit into that little dress for a special occasion perhaps).

Thank you very much Consultant 31. What would we do without you? :D
