Went to a party yesterday which was lovely and I reckon I did OK.
It was some distance away so it was great to catch up with people we hadn't seen for ages. The tables were groaning with food and I avoided all the stuff with pastry - sausage rolls, pork pie, quiche and went for chicken, salmon, loads of salad. I had one bread roll with a small sausage. It was non-stop food really - BBQ from 3pm and then buffet style from about 7pm.
Desserts were plentiful but I chose fresh fruit kebabs and avoided all the strawberry flans with double cream and trifles with double cream and the double chocolate gateaux!! I didn't have any alcohol either, but I seldom do anyway.
On the way we stopped at a large shopping complex and I bought a beautiful white linen top (half price) and it fits really nicely at the moment. I kept thinking at that party "I am NOT going to spoil all my hard work now and put weight on or this top won't fit." I like the top much better than I do a few bowls of fattening puds!!;)0 -
Congratulations Red :j
Penny, well done at the BBQ, I am finding that my whole way of thinking about food is changing. I still have things I know will put weight on, but I offset that by being careful with other things. I really think I will be able to lose my weight, and keep it off as it isn't really a diet, it's just a healthier way of eating.
Just need to get my head around the fact that wine is fattening :rolleyes:You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
Hey all
Oooh I dind't know there was a SW thread on here :j:j
I am significantly overweight and any previous attempts at healthier eating have been laughable in the extreme and tended to last a day or two at most.
I have now lost 2 stone since I 1st started vaguely following SW underlying principals of food groups on 06 April.
I have had about 5-7 weeks of totally abandoning all that and eating very badly again until signing up with my local class 10 days ago. In my 1st week I lost 3.5 lbs and hope I can mostly stick with the healthier eating and loose more.
Will have to keep tabs on this thread and best of luck to all who are LOOKING TO LOOSE WEIGHT :beer::T (oops 'scuse caps)

I'm lucky in that regard as I'm not a drinker so having no alcohol is a piece of cake for me ... oops should I not mention cake:o

Consultant - as you get nearer to target do SW recommend that you do more exercise or become more active as a compliment to eating less sins? I don't quite understand the whole body magic thing I have to confess, but I try to keep fairly active (no time without kids to do 'formal' exercise though).
It is always recommended that you do some exercise if you can - it helps you burn more energy and keeps your heart, lungs and various other bits and pieces healthy
However, I have a member in my group who is disabled and therefore can't exercise at all - her weight loss is a little slow, but she does still lose.
Body Magic isn't complicated.......it works on the principle that any exercise you do, over and above your normal day to day lifestyle, is a bonus. The ultimate goal is to build up to 30 mins of moderate activity (something which makes your heart pump a little harder but you're not gasping for breath) on at least 5 days a week. You get there in stages whch are explained in your BM booklet.
The best exercise is walking - it's free and usually can be incorporated into any lifestyle. Get a dog and/or a friend and go for it, I bet you enjoy itI let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

Hi Flossey :hello:
I was just wonderin if anyone wuz gonna welcome me to the thread :rotfl::rotfl:
Well done on your result (going off your sig) most impressive :T:T:T
Had my 1st bash at the slimming world chips today - did 'em a tad too long (both the boiling bit and the oven bit) but gives me an idea for next time.
One thing I don't get (well lots actually , but that's another story) I had heard that the syns thing if you have just 5 a day you will loose more than if you have 15 syns a day (which sounds logical enough to me) but the lady who runs our class says this is not soso the bit I don't get is ...... why would you only have 5 if you can have 15 and still loose as mush weight
anyone any thoughts ?
thanks again for the welcome:beer::beer:

Thanks for your encouragement Charlie's Mum and well done on your loss too!:T and hello Judderman!!
Charlies Mum - you have hit the nail on the head - it IS all about a healthier way of eating. We have the choice don't we? We can look at a display of food and we all KNOW which things on that table are good and which are not so good for us. It is then up to us which we reach out for!!;)
I lay in bed last night and was thinking back over the day and I knew that if I had chosen all those creamy puds, pastry items and loads of alcohol or fizzy drinks, I would have felt as guilty as anything. I am at last able to recognise that I am FAT because I have made bad choices for too long. I can't blame anybody but myself and it feels good to be in control.
Since I have changed my eating habits my cholesterol has come way down, I feel SO healthy and I have bags of energy. I no longer take tablets prescribed by the GP for acid/indigestion and I sleep like a log!!
The thing is with "diets" people lose weight and then put it back on when they start going back to their old habits. I finally understand that there are foods that do not benefit me at all and I can CHOOSE to go without them. The SW way of eating has really made me look at things differently and I still record everything I eat each day, because it means I stay focussed. I eat REALLY well and enjoy trying different recipes too.0
