I am 26 5ft 2 1/2 and weigh in at 11 stone 11. I need to loose 2-3 stone ready for a holiday we are having at the end of August! Please help! Do I really want to go on this "diet"? Is it worth the money to join? Is there a free alternative? And where the hell do I begin? ...

Hello Rebekah - welcome to the board :D

Slimming world teaches you a great way to eat - think of it more as an eating plan rather than a diet. Once you have got used to the 'rules', it is easy to follow and easy to stick to.

A safe weight loss would be about 1 or 2 lb a week (after the first week when you may lose a little more), so you are unlikely to lose 2 - 3 stone by end August, but you could be a stone lighter, with the confidence to not put a load on while you are away, and keep losing when you return

To begin, the best way is to get to a class (look on the SW website for a your nearest class), join (about £10 including the weigh in) get all the information and learn about the plan. Whilst I would recommend that you continue for at least a few weeks after that (£4.50pw) to get settled in, you could leave once you have your pack and use this board for all the support you need.

This is a great way to lose weight!

It does sound good. Unfortuantely for me this would be my support group as the local groups are at hours when I am working. Trust me to work silly shifts! ;-) Where do I begin online? Is there an online group at all or anything like that? Where do I go for the basics. Even loosing a stone is good!

I think you would probably need to go to one group to get your starter pack, it costs £5 to join and £4.50 per week, but once you have your pack you should be able to do it alone (along with the help on here).

There is a website, but unless you understand the basics, I think you would struggle.

Do men go to groups also? My man is in more need of weight loss than me. Wonder if we can do it together. Do we need to ring to say we are going or anything? Or just turn up?

    Hello!

Been a while since I last posted, but have been keeping up the reading of this thread and you are all so inspirational!!!
I had my weigh in last night and lost 1lb!
Which I am amazed as I fell of the wagon completely last week, had a drinking bender, fried chicken next morning (I know, I know) and a take away burger on night before weigh in....

So seriously back on plan this week, as my total loss over 6 weeks is 9.5lbs!

Could someone PM me this weeks password, as I forgot to note it down.

    Thanks!

    March GC 0/300.00

Weight loss goal - lose 14 lbs by May 18th 2016 - so far 3 lbs lost

Yes, men go to groups, we have a husband and wife at ours and they are very competitive :D

Just find out when your local group is and turn up. While the regulars are weighing in, your consultant will go through the plan with you.

If possible, I would stay to group as you get some really good tips.

Rebekah - we have a husband and wife at our group and the weight is just FALLING off him!! Also know a man who goes to another group and he lost several stones to get to his target a few years ago and pops in every now and then.

Thanks to Charlie's Mum for helping me out with the bit below!!;)

Thanks for your warm welcome Flossey[ - the thanks button doesn't work for me  .
Rebekah, I do the online thing - I don't think it's as good as going to a group but they do explain the plan very clearly and then you can ask questions here. They have an online sins section, articles to read, food diary and recipe advice. You can also generate a whole weeks menus if you want. I haven't found it very supportive from an encouragement point of view though.

The men always do the best - we have four men at ours and they always lose twice as much as the women every week (except my OH who's not really trying just coming along to help me to stick with it!)
