    Hello SW thread!

I joined last night and am an absolute Newbie, never tried SW before.
Tried WW but with not much motivation.
Enjoyed the group aspect last night - it really has encouraged me to get started, but today all I have done is think about food... Is this normal? I have been stuffing fruit in all morning, had porridge this morning. Drinking lots of water.
Maybe its an adjustment thing as I have been on the website working out the syns for my favourite foods.

Good luck for people with weigh ins today!

Yes, completely normal. I have been totally obsessed with food ever since the end of January when I started. Even to the point where I've been lying in bed and DH has said, what are you thinking about? and the answer, of course, was Slimming World...

    Catt xx

It's really interesing reading how we all tackle our weight loss journey!;)

I have to say, I DON'T think about food all the time on SW. I'm 10 weeks in now (1 st loss) and I more or less know what I can and can't eat. I stick to Red Days, only because I might confuse myself and things are moving along nicely for me TBH!:D

I am also using a bit of psychological trickery on myself .... I'm telling myself bread doesn't agree with me (and it truly doesn't) and cakes, pies and bikkies will not help me either. I was discussing this with a friend (also overweight) and it came to us that many, many slim people just DO NOT EAT unhealthy things or eat just a little! They don't make a big fuss about it, they have just made it part of their life. Many of us fool ourselves into thinking we can eat whatever we like, in whatever quantities and whenever we like! We CAN'T!! I know this is not exactly a great discovery but at least I recgnise and understand it now. We can all quote a "slim friend who eats everything in sight" but there are LOADS of slim people who do eat carefully.
I had a lovely neighbour who was rather like Helen Mirren, slim, tall and SO elegant and beautifully dressed. I passed her some crusty bread at a party once and she just said "I don't eat bread" ... I was like "do you have an allergy?" and she said when she was a young woman she stopped eating it because she was getting podgy and she chose not to eat it ever again!
She had stayed the same weight after that all her adult life.

    Hi all,

Going to try and have a good read of this thread tonight and over the weekend.

I want to try Slimming World, but unfortunately there is not a meeting in my area whenI am available.

Going to pick up the magazine tonight, have a trawl around the net and maybe ebay and see what I can find out.

Need something to focus on to get some weigh off which will hopefully help with TTC.

Look forward to meeting all of you

Potatoes need their skin on for them to be a HEB on a red day, so you would have to syn the mash at 1 syn per 28gms

Ooh, well done Pennylane, that's great! And also to others doing well or not gaining too much  !

I got very hungry this afternoon and boy am I miserable when I'm hungry! :o For lunch today I took 1 unit as a tsp of oil to make a salad dressing and in retrospect that unit might have been better used on an apple about 4pm! This is my day's food:

    B - 1/2 grapefruit, 2 weetabix, 200ml skimmed milk, 6oz raspberries

L - 8oz melon, 1 tomato, celery, cucumber, salad leaves, 1.5oz feta cheese and that misguided tsp of olive oil mixed with balsamic vinegar (can be used freely) plus 2 breadsticks

T - 2oz pasta and sauce made with a small onion, 7oz tinned chopped tomatoes, 6 button mushrooms, 1/2 pepper, 1 medium courgette, 2 sticks celery and mixed herbs. Also a Cadburys light chocolate mousse - yes I did practically lick out the inside of the pot!!!

I was very impressed when my temporary stand in consultant phoned me tonight to check how I was getting on. Not sure whether my usual one would have done, may be changing classes shortly...

If you like an oily salad dressing, it would be a shame to miss out on it for the sake of 1 syn! Your apple is syn-free anyway and the pasta with your tea need not have been weighed as this would be a free food (assuming you were having a green day).

I see your HEBs but only the milk on your cereal as a HEA - are you having your full quota? You could have much more free food which would help to fill you up a little (for instance you could have had a jacket potato with your lunchtime salad - the meal you had would definitely not have filled me, lol).

Don't forget to have your syns as well - if you don't it doesn't help weight loss long term, honestly. Have everything you're entitled to and enjoy it, you'll still lose weight as long as you follow the plan 100%.

oh dear - food on the brain time

I was scanning the forum (as you do) and noticed an interesting looking thread....

    chip butty therapy

on re-reading it was less interesting........ cheap beauty therapy

:rotfl: :rotfl: what a shame, you could make a fortune from the original title :rotfl:

Larmy16 - I do think trying to get to a lower weight can sometimes be hard to keep up with, and the resulting feeling of defeat at not being able to maintain it can be demoralising. If you're happy as you are, why not make this your target and see how you go at maintaining for a few months. You may find it's easy and you can always try for a new lowere target later on.
Well done on what you've done so far :)

Consultant, glad to see you back here again.

I wonder if you could answer a question for me. I joined in Feb and have lost 1 st 1 lb so far. My son is getting married in September, and I really need to start looking for an outfit, but am worried that if I lose another stone, it won't fit.

I am 5 ft 3 and weigh 11 st 10 lbs, so know I have lots more to lose, but could I set a target now so that I can stay at this weight until after the wedding, then start again ?
You're only young once, but you can be immature forever :D

I do not peel my potatoes for mash - just wash, chop, boil and mash - I have been doing this for years.

Not to everyone's taste I appreciate, but it means I can use '227g potato with skin on mash' as an HeB
