i've got some nice rice recipes.
1 1/3 cups bovril chicken stock
1/8 teaspoon ground turmeric
2/3 cup rice
Frylight
1 medium onion, diced finely
1 pound carrots, diced finely
2 teaspoons fresh marjoram leaves or 1/2 teaspoon dried
1/4 teaspoon dried Italian or Greek oregano
1 tablespoon wine vinegar
Pinch of cinnamon
1/2 cup bovril chicken stock or water
2 teaspoons chopped fresh parsley
Combine 1 1/3 cups stock with turmeric in a saucepan and bring to boil over high heat. Add rice, reduce heat to low, cover and cook until liquid is absorbed, about 25 minutes. Remove from heat and fluff with fork. Cover and keep warm.
Fry onion, cover and cook until softened, about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Blend in carrots, increase heat to medium-low and cook uncovered 5 minutes. Add marjoram and oregano and cook 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Stir in vinegar and cinnamon and cook for several minutes to blend flavours. Add 1/2 cup stock and simmer gently until carrots are crisp-tender and liquid is evaporated, for about 20 minutes. Stir carrots into rice. Mix in parsley.
Rice with carrot, onion, garlic and mint.
I fried the onion and carrot on a low heat for 10 mins, added the garlic and cooked for a further 3 mins. cooked the rice and added the juice and zest of one lemon to the water. stirred the veg into the rice and added some chopped mint.0 -

I've made a lemon/lime mousse for us all tonight. A woman at SW shared the recipe at a "taster" session and it was lovely.:j Serves 4.
1 Sugar Free Jelly (I used lemon & Lime)
1 Tub Quark
1 Muller Light Yoghourt (I used Vanilla)
Make up the jelly but only use HALF of what it says (ie half a pint instead of a pint) Allow to cool but not set.
Stir Quark and Yoghourt together and stir in jelly. Put into small bowls or one large dish until set.
No idea how many syns it is - but it can't be many and it's YUMMY!!
I also have a recipe for a DELICIOUS Raspberry/Strawberry Roulade and I think there's only 16 syns in the whole thing and that served 4 of us easily. Will post that later, if anybody fancies it!0 -

The mousse is just 2 syns for the whole lot - and you're right, it's yummy
As to the roulade, that recipe comes direct from the chef at SW (if it's the recipe I'm thinking of) - the only problem is in stopping at the one portion :rolleyes:I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

this looks nice. im not sure if polenta cakes are still free or not though. i heard somewhere they are a misuse but i'm not really sure why cos there seems to be loads of recipes for polenta cakes and is a normal way to make cakes. obviously you would have to syn the butter (i use butter buds granules - only 1/2 syn per tablespoon) and the baking powder though.
You can make and eat polenta cake (as you can with any other cake) as long as you count the polenta at 5 syns per 28gms. It is not syn-free if used as a flour substitute.
Tobys_mummy - I was unaware that you could buy wholemeal ciabatta and as I replied to your pm, you would be better to contact SW direct to ask about this. The same applies to Panini (which to the best of my knowledge is made with white flour and oil and has a very small fibre content).
As I have said before, there has to be enough fibre for it to be used as a HEB.I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

This week at meeting we discussed cravings, and crisps came up - my leader said they (my baked 'crisps') were fine so long as I only used fry light, and in the same breath asked if everybody had been trying the lasagne crisps, and wholeheartily recommended them as free on green.
Sorry, but she's wrong. Tell her to ring head office and ask, she'll be told they are misuse of free food.
However, if you're only eating a few at a time and they keep you from Walker's or whatever, they're still worth having as the syn value is lower than most brands.
Tobys_mummy mentioned Asda salt and vinegar fries and they really are good at just 2½ syns a bag - though it's only a little bagI let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
I have shared on here that I am struggling to lose the last few pounds. My leader says I can call target and then lose another 3lbs but part of me feels I am giving up and giving in.
Anyway, I have been extra good of late but I am wondering if I eat too many yoghurts?? I know Mullers are free of syns, but I had one for breakfast with fruit, one for lunch (after my porridge - yes I have breakfast for lunch as I have so little time to eat due to work).
Tonight I am having salmon with steamed spinach and brussel sprouts followed by a muller light. So could this be stopping me lose weight?? consultant 31 what do you think??
I have cut out my a choice in the hope this will kick start my weight loss again.
I'm sorry, I've not seen this post till now.
As someone else has already said, it's a good idea to give your body a good shake up now and again, denying it the stuff it's used to and substituting something else. Variety really is the key to successful weight loss.
First and foremost, I would try to bulk your meals out with more free food. That way, you may not need a pudding. I know you said work committments make it hard for you to eat a proper lunch, but could you have something a little more filling than porridge? Perhaps a big quiche, with chicken, bacon, cottage cheese, a HEB of diced, cooked potato etc. Cooked the night before and sliced into a lunch-box - shouldn't take much longer to eat than porridge but would fill you more.
Try sugar-free jelly made up with just ½ pint water. Allow to cool but not quite set and whisk in a pot of very low fat natural yoghurt or fromage frais. The more you whisk, the greater the volume. Serve with chopped fresh fruit for a change from normal Mullers.
You might like to try Greek 0% yoghurt with a teaspoon of lemon curd stirred in - it's really nice, like lemon meringue pie (you can even crumble a meringue nest in for an extra 3½ syns, yum!).
I hope some of this helps.I let my mind wander and it never came back!0
