Yep, I ordered 1,140 and 1,104 turned up. I gave them all away, to local homeless hostels and the salvation army, who were really grateful.....I should point out that I'm not the only one to donate like this - bylromarha for one has done some of this, and I she gave me some advice on who to call etc.

Nice one both of you (and any others doing similar work). It's great to hear of things like this and I look forward to reading your write up when you do it.

Isn't the point of a head office that it is the top level of the company and therefore superior to any and all store managers?

The head office policy on coupons only states that managers have discretion in their acceptance of internet coupons.

I'd be interested to see whether to treat customers such as Igloo and her kids in such an appalling way is also permitted by head office. I'm sure we will get an answer to this if/when head office get back to Igloo.

As far as involving the police goes, I did say that for them to visit the store and speak to the manager and security guard might be all that was needed. It might not even be necessary for police to go as far as to issue them with advice and a warning about how they are allowed to treat customers, although I expect this would be the most likely outcome if Igloo made a complaint.

Either way, if she does complain, they are obliged to investigate and that could be as simple as asking the manager and guard for their version of events and, having done so, putting the matter down to a difference of opinion with insufficient evidence to prove who was in the wrong.

I think this outcome would be the most satisfactory all round because it would mean that:

    (i) with a short visit from the police, the two errant staff members will get to feel the way they made Igloo feel - uncomfortable and scared

(ii) the police would have nipped the problem in the bud to prevent any further, possibly more serious incidents involving these staff members who have acted unacceptably in the view of most people posting messages here. A prosecution is not always the most suitable solution - a quick word from police is sometimes more appropriate in everyone's interests

(iii) Tesco's head office, having been informed by Igloo, would probably apologise to her and maybe make some sort of small goodwill gesture. We're not talking a big payout here.

It sounds to me that Igloo is not out to have these two employees prosecuted. I infer that she is perhaps a bit wary of getting involved in any criminal case.

I think she just wants to have her concerns addressed so that the manager and guard do not treat her or anyone else in this way again. I back her wholeheartedly because I feel that her concerns are real and proper.

Igloo, please correct me if I have drawn incorrect inferences from your posts.

The two people I refer to stated from their own experience that Tesco do not redeem all the vouchers they accept.

You claim to have a lot of knowledge about Tesco yet you don't say how you have come by this knowledge. For example, you claim a store manager has no authority to over-rule head office. How do you know this for sure?

My local store takes over a million pounds a week through the checkouts. Tesco wont want any Tom, !!!!!! or Harry in charge of such a large operation and will employ a manager who can be trusted to make important decissions by himself.

(Indeed many job requirements require someone who has the ability to think for themselves and not require constant supervision).

I think my knowledge has been clearly demonstrated by the successes of those following my suggestions in this and previous threads in their hunt for bargains and endeavours to save using coupons. As to where I acquire that knowledge, that is not something I feel the need to divulge to yourself or anyone else for that matter.

Igloo, please correct me if I have drawn incorrect inferences from your posts.

This is the problem with this whole thread, everyone drawing incorrect inferences.

The very subject title Help! Tesco coupon policy? I've been banned! and first post tells it all. Igloo joined up on here to ask about Tesco's coupon policy half an hour after she left the shop and posted the question in another couple of threads.

Three hours after leaving the shop she phoned the shop, once again to find out the policy on using coupons/vouchers not to complain about the Customer Service Manager and/or the security guard and nor did she complain about this to the shop manager when she spoke to him the next day.

The thought of the police didn't come into the equation for Igloo until the words, detained against her will, false imprisonment, assault etc etc were brought up by other posters. She posted on here to find out about Tesco's coupon policy.

However, regarding this I am of course surmising from what I have taken from Igloo's post and this is the point. Everyone is surmising and seeing their own view point. Usually there are three sides to every story, we have read some of Igloo's story, we haven't read the customer service manager and security man's story and somewhere in the middle of these two stories will be what actually happened.

The question in the OP is Help! Tesco's Coupon Policy? So far this question can't be answered across the board as it would seem that although HO have their policies each Manager has their own discrection on what coupons they accept, end of story!

Threads on MSE regarding Sainsburys and vouchers have in the past been pulled due to Sainsburys getting in touch with Martin. Do you want this to happen with Tesco due to libelous postings on here regarding two Tesco employees?

I think not, especially while you are all buying up Bird's Eye beef from Tesco ;)

If you think these posts are libellous presumably they have been reported to abuse control.

Personally I see nothing wrong with people giving their opinions based on assumptions as long as people take this into account when reading them ....................we haven't heard all sides but then again we rarely do in any discussions on MSE,do we;)

I'm still hoping somewhere along this long thread some clarity on Tesco policy might appear  ..................Igloo,have you considered making your complaint formal and taking it further (that's probably already been asked so forgive me if it has)

PS can someone explain why everyone is buying beef in gravy:o

. But in the case of Tesco, I suspect the suppliers have aggreements and understandings.

For all we know, Tesco may well have an agreement with it suppliers whereby they are happy for Tesco to take the vouchers against other products, in return for a more prominent position on the shelf.

Yes I suspect that could be a possibility.
And in the same way, tesco (and other stores) have an 'agreement' whereby customers can redeem vouchers against goods they haven't actually purchased, in return for us shopping there instead of eslewhere.

But then problems are starting to occur when shoppers play them at their own game!

(I, btw, rarely use vouchers...mainly because they are out of date by the time i remember to take them out with me, lol)

Well your knowledge has already been shown wrong after you said Tesco redeem every coupon they get; two other people with actual experience clearly stated that they don't.

So perhaps wherever you get your knowledge is not as reliable as you might think.
