About 4 weeks agom we finally got an allotment off outr local counsil !!!

Anyway whilst digging and weeding today we came across a huge batch of spring onions ready to be picked - so we picked them !!

Anyway now I have about 1/2 a carrier bag full and no ideas with what to do with them  Can I freeze them or are there any recipies I could try.

I am actually really chuffed because we also managed to pick enough Rhubabrb for a pie too :j

    Thanks in advance.

Oh that sounds so yummy too !!!

I have loads of them so I am going to look for recipies for the already mentioned ideas but in the meantime I am going to do a potato salad and chop some of the spring onions up in to it.

I love potato salad and we have some really nice looking new potatos in the cupboard. I will do the potato salad as an accompniment to our tea tonight !!

    Thanks

grated cheese, chopped up spring onion and a dollop of mayonaise all mixed together is a yummy sandwich filler and it will keep in the fridge for a couple of days.

also spring onions tend to keep for ages in the fridge

Mmm, spring onions are lovely! Brighten up recipes with that fabulous green colour and taste great too. I love onion in general though.

You can use them in a tomato and onion omelette. I use red, white and spring onions if I have them.
Instead of a cheese sanwich filler you could have a egg and spring onion one, bit of salt and pepper, delicious.
Make a pasta sauce using the spring onion. Bit of garlic, onion, peppers and courgettes if you have any. Fry them off, add a tin of tomatoes or a carton/jar of passata, lovely! You could add some bacon to this for that extra depth in flavour or you could use sausages.
Vegetable rice, can use the same ingredients as for the pasta sauce, if you wanted could use mushrooms and/or sweetcorn.
The ingredients are so flexible you just put in what you have and what you like in it.

Spring onions are just fab. You can freeze them but they made my freezer smell strongly of onion even though they were wrapped up and in plastic containers.

Nice in tuna sarnies. I also chop them up and add to mash with some chopped coriander. Scrummy with grilled salmon. ANything oriental usually looks good with some spring onions cut at an angle.

Spring Onions are great in loaded potatoes skins !

Cook potato in jacket then slice in half, scoop out contents and mash the cooked potatoe with chopped spring onion, bacon and grated cheese - fill empty jacket back up top with a little more grated cheese and grill until golden - yum yum, lovely served with sour cream.

    Cheers

I read a recpie this week in a mag that served them griddled until softened, then dressed when still warm with a vinaigrette and shavings of parmesan on the top...

it sounded so nice |I bought some spring onions to do it! You lucky thing! Go for it! Loads of great ideas here!
