    Afternoon All

(((hugs))) to those feeling under the weather.

Have only been home a while, OH's dentist trip appears to have gone well - he is soundo at the moment. When he had his consultation they charged him £43 - was expecting to pay a lot more today but the reception were adament that we have nothing more to pay. Was expecting a bill of over £100 - still think theyve got it wrong but will wait and see.

Csarina - I have heard that rumour about the fuel for a while - our company should just be able to cope if it does happen but think there will be a few transport company's going bust - its going to add on a lot to everything we buy - the goverment really need to do something.

Best be off - shouldnt really be here - havnt done any work yet!

My friend and I stayed in the NewYorker when in the Big Apple. Just on the corner of 5th Avenue. No frills but clean and comfortable. Plenty of delis nearby and not far from the bus station if you want to do the trip to the big out of town shopping centre (can't remember it's name) but it was a great day out! Bought loads of stuff for the kids plus DH and we both had to buy holdalls to bring it back on the bus!!!!!!!!! Hotel very central for all the sightseeing and you can see the Empire State Building from it!

Thanks GB, I think we will be doing the outlet shopping in Florida, we are staying with friends, want to spend the days in NY sightseeing, it will be our last trip to the USA.

I have been looking at Beacon Hotel and also the Wellington, both have fridges and microwaves in the rooms, but the Beacon is the more expensive, the Wellington has the metro stations very close, but according to some people the heating is noisy at night, will not bother OH but I will have to take earplugs, I am a bad sleeper as you know, at the best of times.

I am hoping to book everything on line, but want to see how much the hotel is via the travel agent, they get better rates............pity I cannot book the whole thing via quidco:D :D

This is what also bothers me, there has been a sharp increase in the cost of food in the last 6 months, due no doubt to the last hike in fuel costs. There will be no commensurate rise in pensions, heating, water and council tax will also go up. At the rate we are going it will be a choice of eat or heat for a lot of pensioners and those living on a fixed income.............but will the govenment do anything about it, I very much doubt it........we are slightly luckier than most in that we do have pensions from the civil service, but we are penalised when claiming for housing and council tax benefit.....we pay almost full CT as it is and I think with the tiny rise we will get this year we will be out of CT benefit altogether.

I just wonder where it will all end??????????

ESSEX-GIRL - NHS dentists just have three different charges which encompass all the different treatments. If your OH's dentist is NHS and he has paid £43 then he definitely won't be charged any more - so don't worry. You dentist should be able to give you a leaflet explaining the new charging system.

LILMISSKITKAT - you're right about the gums and being pregnant! It's called 'pregnancy gingivitis' and is one of the main reasons for the NHS making sure that women don't have to pay for treatment while they are pregnant or for the first year after the baby is born.

Well, I went to M&S this morning and I have vowed that I will NEVER EVER go again. As soon as I walked in through the door I remembered why I haven't been in there for years! It's huge but has absolutely no consistency - which is obviously to make sure customers cover the whole shop and can't just nip in, buy one thing and nip back out! I had thought I'd be able to buy a bra but, when I finally located that section - nothing is signposted - the rails of bras went on forever. I must admit to feeling very angry that we have so much choice when half the world can't afford to feed itself; it struck me as totally obscene and very shallow. Anyway, I tried a few bras on in the baking hot changing room, didn't like them, spent half an hour hanging them back on the silly little hangers then nearly left but the reason I went in there was to spend the vouchers I had for my birthday last year and, if I didn't spend them today, I would have to go in there again and I will do anything to avoid that. So, I must have traipsed around there for an hour looking at things - in the end I bought some jewellery but then had to wait at the till for twenty minutes to pay for it. I feel really annoyed that I spent half the morning in a retail store when I could have been doing something much more exciting - like ironing! I didn't even have time to go to the gym. Anyway, rant over and I'm sorry for whinging; one thought has occurred to me though - does anyone know if you can spend M&S vouchers online? Just in case I get given any more!

On the plus side, I discovered a little sugarcraft and cake-making shop in the next village and spent a far happier half an hour in there buying ribbons, Easter chicks and rabbits.

Anyway, I've just looked at the clock and it'll soon be time to collect DGS from school - I'd better hide the Easter chicks before I bring him back or they won't be a surprise when Easter arrives!

    See you all later.

Csarina - I am getting quite worried about it - cant see where it will end personally - I really am noticing increases in everything - we are hoping to get some extra work which will hopefully cover the increase in fuel - also we are training our drivers to drive more economically however I know companies that did that over a year ago and cant make any more cutbacks.

All my friends who have been lucky enough to have pay increases this year are still much worth off.

Mioliere - Thank you, it concerned me though because he had a sedative which normally costs between £50-£100 on its own - perhaps its because he had to have sedative rather than choice iykwim.

Well Ive given up today - cant get motivated, I have to be truthful and say I have really got lazy lately and I have got to change dont know what it is but since ive come home from holiday Im getting virtually nothing done only whats essential. Tomorrows another day I spose.

Hope you all have a lovely evening.

Csarina - don't forget that the 10% tax band also disappears in April, though they do take the 22% down to 20% it doesn't help the real low earners.

    :bdaycake: happy birthday master shez
