From the basics range we like:

marmalade 29p (this is my fave!)
    part baked baguettes 39p
    peanut butter 69p
tea bags 28p (thought they would be nasty but they're really nice)
all biscuits approx 30p a pack, esp shortbread only 12p!
    tinned pineapple 13p

Recently bought the shampoo and conditioner but not used yet. Has anyone tried this?

Can't find the 12p curry sauce in my local Sainsburys.

I do quite like their 28p sweet & sour sauce.

Hello. We are having a little lunch buffet today at lunch for some friends.

Went to Sainsburys and got some of three £5 for three frozen party food but got the following basics items :-

    1 tub green olives: 99p
    1 tub black olives: 99p
    2 smoked salmons: £1.76 (88p each)
    Mini eggs: 84p
Part baked baguette: can't remember but think 39p
    Dips: 98p (I think).

    Will report later.

By the way, thank you for this thread. It's very interesting reading. Never really shopped at Sainsbury before but always add a few basics to my trolley now.

The toilet roll is good, have found it better than Morrisons or Wilkinsons cheap equivalents.

I find that cheap sweet & sour sauce tends to taste a bit too much "chemical acid" to me. Does the SB version not suffer from that?
  • i like basics frozen prawns
    honey roast cashews

I do eat this and find it ok but would say that there is a little bit of a chemical taste to it. I also eat the 9p curry sauce which again I just find ok, but for the purpose of cheap edible meals, they both do the job.

Just had some Basics coleslaw which I wasn't keen on as not creamy enough although OH didn't mind it and DD has just wolfed down the Basics chocolate spong in a tin but again when I tasted it, I thought it was disgusting, really salty or soapy or something. (Not sure which as I spat it out!) Also bought the cheese & bacon quiche which I haven't tried yet & also the cream cleaner which I haven't used yet.

I find that sainsburys basics potatoes tend to be really good when they're the type that has the little red bits around the eyes. But, when they don't, they tend to be too waxy for me.

The basics teacakes are too dry for me. But my partner likes them.
