Has anybody tried the basics custard. The colour put my off for a start and when I tasted it - yuk! Some much for saving money!0

Had the Basics Hot chocolate last night and it is FAR NICER than Options and Cadburys etc. Its in a bag so you have to reseal or tip it into a containter but its lovely!
There are 2 rather large Sainsbury's within driving distance near me and neither of them ever seem to have the Basic's Hot ChocolateDebt as of 02/02/2012

Just did a search for "pasty" and found the only post mentioning it absolutely hated it (Sainsburys Basics Cornish pasty). I don't find them too bad actually, with fresh veg, mash and gravy.
Anyway this post is to mention that for some strange reason they are priced individually at 31p, but a pack of three is 99p.
Incidentally, same with their loose baking spuds - you can get a bag of four for 66p but the other day I only wanted two, so picked the two smallest ones, which were about the same size as the pre-packed ones, and they came out at 52p. They don't seem to do the Basics packs of baking spuds in my branch any more, but they were excellent value at 55p for four.I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

I think the beans are good (I prefer them to Heinz - Heinz is too sweet for me), the vanilla cheesecake is okay, could be a bit creamier though, my partner loves the pain au chocolats but I haven't tried them, and I love the sausages - they're the only sausages I actually like!
I can't stand the instant mash though.0 -
Had the basics scotch pancakes last night.
They are fantastic!0 -
We buy the smoked gammon plate steaks (2 in a packet) from the basic range and they are fab. We use them instead of pancetta cubes which are much more expensive and we also think that the gammon is more tasty.
By the way has anyone managed to get hold of the basic toothpaste? Is it any good? In my sainsbury's the shelf is always empty but I am not surprised when the price is 17 pence per tube.No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. More fans of the beans in this house too. They're definitely heavy on sauce, but we usually boil them until most of it reduces to sludge anyway, and to me they taste more of the actual beans than others do. My inner hippie likes the kinder nutritional aspects too.
Other favourites: jaffa cakes, midget gems, cola (doesn't give me a disgusting, sickly taste in my mouth after drinking lots of it like other own brands do, and no aspartame either), squash, bananas (brilliant! Always a range of sizes in the bag), apples (not too hard, v. juicy and big enough to make you feel like you've eaten something), garlic bread, peas, fish fingers ... I could go on, but I won't. Oh! My mum is the fussiest eater in the world and won't have marmalade that isn't basics. Now I'm done.0 -
