We love the houmous and have been really impressed by the dishwasher tablets. The chocolate is good and we recently discovered the digestive biscuits and choc digestives, which both got the thumbs up from my boys.

My husband bought some shower gel and was very pleased with himself for saving so much on it, although it does tend to come out in one massive ectoplasm splodge so you need to handle it carefully or it'll only last a couple of showers, mostly down the plughole!

I don't think that my local store stocks all of the items shown on Jamie's adverts. I couldn't find the frozen fruit anywhere.
  • My absolute faves are the tea bags, the shortbread, midget gems, toffees, sage and onion stuffing, instant custard, ready salted crisps and peanuts so far. The only things im not keen on are the white bread as its not very soft and the baby wipes, they don't have enough lotion on them but are ok if im running low on money although the sainsburys little ones wipes are fab.
  • I've never seen the shortbread in the sainsbury's I go to - they're always out of stock so haven't had the chance to try them yet!

I have finally converted my "brand name" loving hubby to the basics range!

Last shop I went alone and bought all basics items, he frowned at first but had a go bless him!

    Basic Range Successes

    Plain large tub nat yogurt
    Muesli
    White and Milk Chocolate Bars
    Choc Chip Muffins
    Christmans Mince Pies
    Jaffa Cakes
Curry Sauce ( he loved this, its just like the little pot the chip shop sells to go with your chips!)
    Scourer pads
    Biological Washing Liquid
    Par Baked Rolls
    Tin Rice Pudding
    "Angel" delight sachets
    Broccoli
    Camembert cheese
    Houmous
    Chocolate Mousse
    Fruit Yogurts
    Tin Peas
    Tin Carrot slices
    Custard Creams
    Kids Chocolate Milk Buttons
    Marshmallow Tea Cakes
    Strawberry Cereal bars
    Toffee cereal bars
    Salted Cashew nuts

Our cupboards are awash with Orange and white and its all going down really well!
  • We really don't like the mayonaise. Juices are really good Apple, orange etc

scotrae - that is so true about the shower gel!

I buy it as I think "well I only really wash with it, it shouldn't matter how it comes out of the bottle", but I do wonder if there is any way of adding something to it to make it less 'splodgy'! Essential oils [I have a few already!] maybe, although I think that would only effect the smell [and you'd have to shake well].

Anyone succeeded in making it more runny?!

Could you put it in a pump dispenser of some sort? Like and old handwash pump type thing?

Not a bad idea. In fact I did that for a while when we'd run out of hand-soap.
  • I have finally come across a basics item my OH doesn't like and that's the mackerel. He will normally eat anything (within reason!) but that ended up in the bin! We don't have a cat but if we had I am sure it wouldn't have eaten it!!

Mackerel apart, we have never come across another basics item that we wouldn't buy again.

I use cheap/on-offer shower gel in old handwash bottles. Nobody has noticed yet ;).
