    that's where I did the search in mysupermarket. Not sure why you couldn't get it to work. Hope you've managed to find it now.

    No Still no sign of it.

    Festive Mince Pies in the basic range - lovely! Not deep filled by any stretch of the imagination but lovely still!
    Xmas Cake - HUGE slab for £2.99 - hard to cut as it crumbles, so not good for presentation but the taste is lovely.

    I'm sitting here enjoying a glass of basics cider :beer:. £1.21 for 2l.

    It's not quite as strong as Magners/Bulmers but still very acceptable.

    Cheers.

    I seem to be on a mission to try each supermarkets basics range.

    • Basics pasta sauce - so bland, I could just eat it but OH couldn't (which is saying something)
    • Basics pot noodle - okayish, not as good as the rivals
    • Basics milk chocolate - tastes like chocolate (galaxy is better lol)
    Canni mind what else I bought
  • basics honey is quite cheap and as good as if not better than named brands
    Nice to save.

    I like the loo roll, i use the batter mix to make my yorkshires (8p! how can you go wrong?!) The cornflakes taste like 'real' cornflakes.

    Sorry- I have to say this: every time I click the "last page" of this thread and read this, I have visions of you making yorkshire pudding batter with bits of loo roll and then cornflakes with the rest of the mixture:rotfl: small life I know, I'm sorry:rotfl:

    White bin liners = bad.

    So thin they will tear just putting them in the bin!!!!!!!!!!!!

    These are touch and go.. some times the are not deep enough for the bin

    But the cornflakes are 100%.
    The ketchup does the job.
    Toilet paper & paper towel is acceptable.
  • Sainsburies are doing a basics cheese board with 100g pieces of cheddar, red leicester, one with onions and chives and a wensleydale (sic) with cranberries. Not much if there are lot of you but ideal for me and my OH for tomorrow nights buffet cheese board! Not eaten any yet but it looks nice.

  • I've read my way all through this post with interest!
    We currently use a number of basics products and I've been pleasantly surprised at the quality of them! So far, there has been only one I will never buy again - the chicken roll (for sawndwiches). It had a really wierd appearance and texture. When I checked the ingredients a large % was chicken skin _pale_

    What we do buy (off the top of my head) are;
    rice pudding (more sauce, less rice but kids love it)
    custard (tinned - a but yellow but ditto above)
    teacakes
    grapes - sometimes red, sometimes green but either great
    kiwis
    cheese slices for sarnies
    full flavour cheddar
    bombay mix - £1.50 for 600g - lovely!
    Creme caramels
    choc mousse
    fromage frais (6)
    orange juice
    apple juice
    choc chip cake bars
    chicken breasts
    tinned toms
    baked beans

    dubious but willing to try;
    tea bags (PG Tips lover)
    loo rolls.... can't help but imagine the scratchy stuff :D

    Def won't try;
    Meat/mince - have a thing about fat content
    sausages.... again, the contents worry me

    Def will try after this thread;
    Curry sauce
    crisps
    biscuits
    bin liners
    choc digestive biscuits
    pineapple

    This thread has made me more willing to try things and I'm getting over my snobbery - never been a 'brand' snob but stuck to sainsburys own, thinking the basics stuff was low quality and less healthy... how wrong I was!!
