Rcpbiggles Trust me the loo roll isn't scratchy!:rotfl:
I totally agree, i forgot to put that in my list, its so good would never pay a fiver again on big packs of toilet roll!0 -
OK, I tried it!! The basics mince, and you know what? I wasn't gagging on bits of fat and gristle like I imagined lol! I drained the fat as advised (which tbh, was not that much) and the result was a lovely meal!!
Also tried the loo roll - that's fine, if a little on the small side!
Have bought the curry sauce but not tried it yet.
Marmalade is lovely, toilet cleaner does the job, soap smells nice, hand cream is ok but smells a bit like a loo cleaner!
Kids like the milk chocolate and have bought the crisps but not tried them yet..... I think, overall, I am a Basics convert!!Proud to be dealing with our debts!:jDMP Mutual Support member 269LBM Jan 2009DMP with CCCS 1st May 2009DFD - who knows, but one day! :beer:0 -

Basic cornflakes around 50p for 500g, almost like kellogs, the taste is right its just not got the cripsyness right.
Basic tomato sauce around 40p for a glass bottle, looks and smells great, the taste is brill and its not too runny or thick.
Basic tomato soup around 19p for a 400g tin, honestly its just a heinz but not as thick.
Basic mixed fruit mix around 60p for 500g great in cakes, on top of your basic cornflakes.
Basic chocolate ice cream lollies around 1.50 for 16 lollies, imagine a thin magnum and thats these!
Basic Instant Mash around 35p for 500g, just as good as any other once you add your black pepper and butter!
Basic Teabags around 28p for 80, quite nice and does well in a teapot as well as a one cup bag.
Basic biscuit pack around 80p(used to be 48p!) for four packs of biccies, bourbon, custard creams, shortbread and nice. These are all firm favs in my house.
Basic double concentrate squash around 80p for a 1lte bottle that makes 3 litres of juice, its not very good, and you need to put more in to get a good taste so defeats the purpose of double strenght, just buy the proper stuff, its got 20% fruit unlike the basic at only 5-10% depending on flavour.
Basic vanilla icecream aorund 90p for 2 litres, its just frozen milk, very pale and trasparent no flavour. ok for kids on a wafer with loads of sauce or mixed with jelly.
Thats all i can think of at the mo. I hope that helps some shoppers, im very fixed in my ways with my cornflakes and tomato soup and i have always bought kellogs and heinz until i tried the sainburys versions and now i buy them.
Am going to try the basics mixed fruit mix. Thanks.:TMortgage FreeSave £5,000 in 2020[CENTER:j0 -
I haven't tried the Basics mixed fruit yet but there was a chap behind me in the queue the other day and all he had in his basket was three bags of the mixed fruit! I made a mental note to buy some on my next visit if it's that good!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

We currently use a number of basics products and I've been pleasantly surprised at the quality of them! So far, there has been only one I will never buy again - the chicken roll (for sawndwiches). It had a really wierd appearance and texture. When I checked the ingredients a large % was chicken skin _pale_
What we do buy (off the top of my head) are;
rice pudding (more sauce, less rice but kids love it)
custard (tinned - a but yellow but ditto above)
teacakes
grapes - sometimes red, sometimes green but either great
kiwis
cheese slices for sarnies
full flavour cheddar
bombay mix - £1.50 for 600g - lovely!
Creme caramels
choc mousse
fromage frais (6)
orange juice
apple juice
choc chip cake bars
chicken breasts
tinned toms
baked beans
dubious but willing to try;
tea bags (PG Tips lover)
loo rolls.... can't help but imagine the scratchy stuff
Def won't try;
Meat/mince - have a thing about fat content
sausages.... again, the contents worry me
Def will try after this thread;
Curry sauce
crisps
biscuits
bin liners
choc digestive biscuits
pineapple
This thread has made me more willing to try things and I'm getting over my snobbery - never been a 'brand' snob but stuck to sainsburys own, thinking the basics stuff was low quality and less healthy... how wrong I was!!
I can't comment on the mince, but the meat I have tried is very nice, braising steak, frying steak both very nice and hardly any fat, no more than premium meat. I bought some of the stewing steak last week to make a pie, not tried it yet but it looks ok.

Hello, I just did my shop in Sainsburys - I now, it a bit sad on New Year's Day - but hey, we never really celebrate it - so I don't mind.
Anyway, bought a packet of the Basics mixed fruit (65p) and just mixed it with my porridge for my breakfast - it was fab - worth buying for sure - a really cheap breakfast - will probably last at least a couple of weeks as well.

I use the basics mixed fruit and also the sultanas and raisins. The only problem seems to be the very occaisional tiny stalk. They are fine for everyday cakes or mixing in porridge or cereal.
I must admit I got some of their better own brand for making the Christmas cake though.Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -
