    OH had 2 packets of basics prawns last week and said although small they tasted just as nice as any other pre cooked prawns in the fresh shelf.

    A jar of basic runny honey costs around 60p. I use it to refill a sqeezy bottle of honey that cost more than £2. I can't tell the difference.

    After reading this thread these are the Basics items that I have tried and to be honest all have been great :-

    Part baked baguettes: buy these every week now;
    Frozen prawns: great in a sandwich with pepper and salad cream to take to work;
    Salmon salmon: great with cream cheese (haven't tried the Basics cream cheese yet though) to take to work;
    Mixed fruit: after it was recommended on this thread -it's lovely;
    Green and black olives: lovely;
    Dips: I liked these but husband wasn't keen - probably just a personal taste difference though;
    Yorkshire puddings: great.
    Basics mini eggs: had a small buffet once and bought these to fill out the table and they were fine;
    Basics white fish: lovely with white sauce and veg;
    Tinned toms and kidney beans: for chilli and spag bol can't tast the difference.

    I just got that this week- 69p maybe? I realised that it was costing me a fortune for a small difference in taste- especially at this time of year when we are making drinks with it for colds.
  • Basic Blueberries were better than normal ones (but same price as normal range had 2 for £3 offer)
  • Basics cheese spread (like Dairylea) and the cream cheese (like Philadelphia)
    Basics mushroom tortellini

    i thought they'd taste the same as normal prawns, i mean prawns are prawns right? But OH wouldn't have them for ages because he didn't think they'd taste nice?! :confused: - he's a brand snob though!
