  • Well, we've tried the curry sauce now and it's another basic added to the regular shopping list!!!
The ready salted crisps are fine - less in a packet and less salty but from a health perspective both these things are a positive!!
Saw the Basics Gin being talked about - what its the alc volume? Anyone know? Just wondered if it is weak so you would end up drinking more (or is that just an excuse I use :D)

  • I've had to downsize quite a bit and was worried that the food wouldnt taste the same but I was wrong - most things are just a difference in size - salmon portions instead of being the same size you might get one small and one large (so trim them at home!!) I've been really impressed with Sainsburys basics I would say they are better than Asdas and have reduced my bill quite considerably (and my two teenagers dont realise!!)

Just had the basics frozen mince for the first time and found it to be pretty much disgusting and uneatable :( I'm normally a big fan of the Basics stuff, and think most of it is just as good as branded stuff but this is foul, will definately be spending a bit more from now on. The worst part is, you get a massive bag so now I have to find a way to get rid of it all!

Basic Blueberries were better than normal ones (but same price as normal range had 2 for £3 offer)

I find that blueberries can vary a lot - sometimes they're great and sometimes either too sour or lacking flavour. The bigger they are the blander they can be in my experience.
When I buy some I make a mental note of the grower & variety printed on the label so that I know whether it's worth buying any more of the same type or if I should wait until the supplier changes before trying again.

Your right- I think the fresh fruit and veg can vary wildly season to season. Once I bought a melon that was so dire I chucked it away- and your talking to the person who can happily devour an entire melon instead of dinner across 2 sittings!! Apples can be fantastic but equally can be too sharp or 'floury' in taste and texture, the only thing that changes is the season they are sold in, and its often regardless of if they are actually in season or not.
  • SB tinned spaghetti, is a massive hit with my DD2 I gave it to her when she had a pal round for tea and they were both talking about how nice the sketti was (they didn't know what brand it was) When I told DD2 after her pal had left, she said its the best skettie she has ever had and never to buy the H brand again only SB skettie from now on:D
