    Basics Frozen Mince is gross.

Tinned Toms, Beans and Peas are nice though.

Agree, the mince is disgusting, same goes for every other supermarket basic frozen mince.

I personally like the basics ham, especially since they're doing wafer thin ham now (they never used to stock it at mine)

I don't mind the mince but then I'm poor and have to be glad for what I can afford.

Ive tried that, I thought it was horrible!

I agree, I also thought it was horrible and would not buy it again. The basics tomato soup and the vegetable I thought was pretty good though. I suppose it is just personal taste.

Tonight we tried the Basics Instant custard and it was lovely much better than T A M's we also had the mushy peas and they were great.

I also buy Fruit and Fibre
    Tinned Tomatoes
    Tinned Sweetcorn varies
    ready salted crisps
    honey
    marmalade
    Pasta Sauce
    Lasagne Sheets
    Fresh fruit, salad and veg
Large punnets of Mushrooms which are often Chestnut Mushrooms

Dont like the Yogurts or salad cream and mayo.
  • The potatoes recently have been full of black bits, so not sure I would get them again.

Tried the salsa (in jars next to crisps) and it was really lovely.

British blue cheese - very good
Brie - awful (in fact they may have stopped doing it, haven't seen it for ages)

Still do the brie at mine.

The basic museli and 'weetabix' are super.

Tried the tomato ketchup today. It's very good. I bet you couldn't tell it from Heinz in a blind test.

    I always buy tinned tomatoes
    tomato ketchup
    Sweet and sour sauce
and those exceedingly evil Shortbread fingers at 12p a pack!

Dont' buy their Basics pizzas, though, they are disgusting. Cardboard base with plastic cheese. (you would be better off eating one from the Early Learning Centre)

What a useful topic this is! I've just switched to Sainsburys for my online shopping after a steaming row with Asda over them not delivering 2 days in a row over the snow (which I didn't blame them for) and putting a hold on my debit card money 2 days in a row without properly cancelling so it was tied up for over a week (which I do blame them for) - we are on a low income. Grr, Asda customer service is truly abysmal and I have told them so in no uncertain terms.

Back to the topic, I've not had much Sainsburys Basic stuff so finding out what seems good value and what is best avoided is really useful, I've gotta try the jaffa cakes as my husband loves them and the McVities ones are getting really expensive if they are not on offer. Sounds like the ketchup may be worth a shot as well, Asda Smart Price ketchup is vile!

I'll post my conclusions after I've tried a few things - I have Basic rolls coming in my first order. Not sure if its Basics or not but I noticed Sainsburys do the 1% fat fresh milk for £1 for a 4 pint carton which is really cheap if anyone is interested.

Go Sainsburys, go! Die Asda, die! :rotfl:
