Basics mayonnaise. It's tolerable though a little bland.

The basics mozzarella balls are very nice - around 57p and big enough to do 2 pizzas (with a bit of care). I don't think we have the basics grated mozzarella in my local though :(
  • Had some people round last night and tried some Sainsbury's Basics products... A few weeks ago I started trying their Basics fruit and veg range and everything has been fine and in some cases better - the strawberries are smaller but sweet and the mushrooms have a lot of flavour, they are very 'meaty' ones if you know what I mean!! :)

    We also tried:
Basics orange juice - one of the guests asked where it was from as it tasted so nice and couldn't believe it was Basics!
Basics dips tray - someone thought this set was from Waitrose, they are lovely...
    Basics cashew nuts - great.
Basics bourbon biscuits - lovely and not as sweet as Bourbons usually are.
Basics digestives and milk chocolate digestives - both lovely.

    However...
Basics low fat fruit yoghurt is hideous. A definite no-no!
Basics reduced fat margarine is nasty.

We have a few other things in the cupboard/fridge still to try, so I'll post again soon...
  • This is a great idea and would work well for all the shops. Would be very useful for many of us. We will be getting an Asda sometime in the next century in Inverness, (soon in other words, but they haven't even started building).

All 224 Sainsbury's basic range are listed here

    Really helpful, thanks very much.:j
  • Here are a few more, hope they are useful :)

Basics grated mozzarella - fine and doesn't seem as fatty as 'normal' mozzarella.

Basics instant custard powder - my husband thinks this is as good as the Ambrosia ready made custard we used to buy, for many times the price!

Basics mixed salad - fine, heavy on the white and red cabbage though. I mixed ours with half a Basics lettuce and a Basics red pepper and it was lovely.

Basics feta-type cheese - just as good as the brands.
  • The kids had the basics chicken kievs (83p for 2) the other night and said they were lovely.
Cogito ergo sum. Google it you lazy sod !!
  • I've recently switched to Sainsbury's and have tried the 7p noodles, jaffa cakes, blackcurrant and apple squash, butter and kitchen roll from the Basics range, and all are excellent.

Dont know if anyone had noticed, but the basic beans,420g have gone up by 11p a tin.
This happened overnight last Fri 17/18th.
Now I know things go up,but from 18p to 29p,I thought was alittle steep.
Especially as they are the basic ones, and people who buy these are trying to save money, they are very nice actually, but a big difference.
I noticed as I had my shopping delivered, and was hoping to spend a specific amount, then looked at the reciept, when it didnt tally with my expectations, lol.

Yes I was really annoyed and shocked at the basic beans hike - Sainsbury's prices generally seem to be shooting up by the day - the basics Tuna shot up from 35p to 48p as well.
