    We always buy basics!

    Our Sainsburys faves are:

Squash (lemon, Orange (Sloop) and Blackcurrant) under 20p
    Fruit and Fibre-absolutely lip-smackingly scrumptious! 66p
Deep Blue Tuna is lovely (and NICER than John West which is like cat tuna IMO) 29p-33p
    Baked beans 20p
    Kidney beanos 11p
Cereal Bars white choc and strawberry 66p for 6
Cottage pie (Frozen) 35p AMAZING! Cheaper than a shop bought sandwich for work lunches! Also helps environment as it doesn't have a film lid on top of pie.
Potatoes were lovely and waxy in the last bag we bought. All soft and tasty like a good spud should. Had to poke a few eyes out though:eek:

    Off topic:

Asda Smart price tuna is 29p and also lovely
Asda Smart price angel delight was 3p this week. Worth a try- could make a nice dessert with the smart price digestives!

sainsburys basics rose wine is yum, not quite as nice as their cheap one in the mateus shaped bottle (thats a bit fizzy) but perfectly delicious.

3p dessert mix is lovely, as is the curry sauce.

all their own brand tea and coffee is fair trade, they had boxes of basics tea bags for pence today.

    bananas and apples are fine

tbh nothing i've had from that range has been disgusting

    Onions,
Tasty cheddar cheese, good medium-strength flavour.
    Tinned tomatoes, Pril,
    Thats it at the mo
    cheers
    PS
  • I like:
    Peanut butter
    bag of peppers
    onions
    carrots
    chopped tomatoes
    beans
    mature cheese
    rose wine
    wafer thin ham
    white bread
    scones
    teacakes
    tomato pasta sauce
    weetabix

    I didn't like:
    soft spread

Tried a few more of their products this week (being a bit short on money!)

Their basics potatoes are great, also soft cheese, sliced ham, toilet roll and baked beans are all good.

    Good thread, I'll join in.

    Bad:
Sainsbury's basics bitter 92p 4 cans - carbonated water with a hint of beer - might as well drink carbonated water so bad - go for Sainbury's Parkins Bitter under £2 4 cans, it is pretty good and not far off premium brands. It is also a lot better than the equivalent Tescos Bitter.
The Spanish basics red wine £2.10 - OK for cooking but for £2.99 can can get some decent Sainsbury's own label wines which are worth drinking.
Baked beans, not sure, sauce a bit watery for my liking
Bacon, OK if chopped up and used in a recipe, but not so good for bacon sandwich / cooked breakfast.

    Good:
    The hand cream
Nappy sacks great for baby sized nappies, too small and fragile for bigger heavier toddler nappies though
Anything fruit and veg. seems to be good -
    Mushrooms (just different sizes)
    Onions
Frozen Peas, brilliant! (just different sizes)

    Mature cheddar is quite reasonable
Lasagna sheets, no different from the regular stuff
Spagetti, little more prone to sticking together it seems, so give it a prod and a stir in the pot a couple of times in cooking and it's fine.

I'll be trying the basics tinned tomatoes soon after reading this.

They're only 18p a pack, but we love them. Not loaded with flavours like some brands, but enjoyable all the same :o
  • I just tried the basics fromage frais which was 46p for 6 pots. They were lovely - much nicer and cheaper than petit filous. Highly recommended.
