  • Spotted Basics part baked baguettes last week and tried them - were fine -(needed slightly more cooking than the "usual" ones from Sainsburys)

The basics milk choc is ok but I just got a bar of "white " choc by mistake (with two milk choc bars -similar packaging) - the whilte choc tastes pretty awful - i had to throw it away it was that bad and I can usually manage most sweet stuff.

Hmm disagree with someone's comment about the pasta. The 500g Basics is 19p a bag. Combined with 89p pesto from Lidl, it got me through some very hard times!
  • Made homemade pizzas for 8 people at the weekend, and for the cheese we used Basics grated mozzarella and Basics mild cheddar which we grated ourselves...pizzas went down very well and we were pleased :) Did nibble on a little piece of the mild cheddar and I don't think I'd buy it for sandwiches (I like my cheddar well mature me :D) but will definitely be buying it again for pizzas.

Adding Basics courgettes and mushrooms to the list of good Basics items - have bought them before, just forgot to add them before now!

Anyone tried their Basics caviar? Tasted a bit too fishy to me.

Things i buy regularly which are good are: Basics Tinned tomatoes
    Potatoes
    Bacon
    Cheese
    Pickle

The ones i would avoid tho are the mayo, salad cream and tomato sauce, find them really vinegary.

WE INTERUPT THIS THREAD TO BRING YOU A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

Following on from my last post here I have now opened and successfully consumed my sample tin of "Deep Blue" tuna costing the same as Basics at 29p.
Verdict: Tastes ok but half of the tin is water, however it is easier to drain than Basics so preferred. I shall be buying it again.
Cats may prefer it but hide the label if necessary. Some can read.

THANK YOU. WE NOW RETURN YOU TO THE THREAD.

You havent told us which tin the cat preferred though :rotfl:

I try to have peas with my evening meal, part of my five a day, of course, so I bought some Basics frozen peas expecting them to be a little bigger than the standard ones, lo and behold, about half of them are petit pois!

They are half the price of the standard ones, I't will take me forever to use the bag up!

I tried their Basic low calorie Cola, big mistake!
