Sainsbury's Basics good/bad items

Are the Basics and Economy ranges being part delisted? I noticed that Sainsbury's (Asda and Tesco also for that matter) have delisted their basics beetroot. Has this happened with any other products? I just wonder where the bits of beetroot that were in the Basics jars before have gone? Into the higher priced own brand perhaps? Hope not because if they have then I would feel a little bit conned.0

Add a little olive oil to the water whilst cooking pasta, it stops it sticking together.Filiss0

Basics Tomato sauce if not already there
Was Heinz through and through though lady who works in there said try it and :eek:tastes almost similiar for half the priceJust back into comping past few months to help me get over rubbish in life.... won Hotpoint fridge freezer, soda stream0 -
We buy bacon which is nice (even when grilled), pasta and meatballs are gorgeous (even nicer than their normal one), orange cheese, plain flour (yorkshire puds still come out really risen), pancakes & muffins, new potatoes taste yummy (just like you get at a farm shop) but the normal potatoes not as nice. Mince is fine (If you prefer it thinner you can chop it) and so is pasta.Winnings: John Deere Model Tractor:j

As an earlier poster said the basics fromage frais are great!
I am recently converted to this range, having previously been a bit snobby about it but now i love searching out these bargains. Bought the apples for the first time yesterday and they were the nicest have had for ages. Also the honey which tastes fine, and butternut squash which are normally so expensive. (although bought one today in lidl for 50p)0 -
Agreed on the fromage frais.
Other good ones:
basics chocolate- not tremendously creamy but as good as the "normal" sainsbury's chocolate
all of the basics biscuit range - yum!
basics chicken & vegetable pies (frozen section) - 80p ish for 4 pies
basics broken mandarin pieces (canned) - for 11p these are fantastic and make a good base for a fruit salad
basics ice lollies - 45p for 10 yummy lollies!
basics english muffins - I prefer these to branded ones, they are sooo soft and yummy!
basics toilet roll - absolutely nothing wrong with this and is so cheap
basics spaghetti - as good as any other
basics salmon fisherman's pie (ready meal) - YUM!
Misses:
Basics fruit cheesecake (frozen) - for some reason this just didn't taste right.
basics tomato and basil pasta meal (dried) - better to just get basics pasta and use a tomato sauce which is actually nice.
I'd like verdicts on the following if anyone has tried
basics apple pie - both frozen and non-frozen variety
basics choc ices -don't look promising but you never know
So-so:
The apples are ok but I'm a bit of an apple snob and always will prefer Braeburn.
Basics natural yoghurt is ok but really could do with plastic lid so can be properly re-sealed.0 -

OH loves the choc ices.
Seem to recall the non-frozen applie pie was OK - served heated and with cream.
If you ever have other yoghurts of the same size, do keep the lids to re-use - should last a few times.0 -
Have now added the following items to the list in our household...
Basics smoked bacon - doesn't seem as salty as some bacon (which is good) and tastes lovely
Basics bananas - have justed started eating bananas again for the first time in years and these are great
Basics melons - usually quite small but at 49p each I'm not complaining
Basics red wine - bought some to cook with and ended up knocking back the rest of the bottle quite happily!
Basics tortilla chips - absolutely fantastic at 18p a bag - lovely with some homemade red bean dip - just whizz a can of red kidney beans (Basics of course), add some dried chilli flakes/powder and some herbs (dried or fresh from the garden), little bit of salt, and a drizzle of oil (if you've got some flavoured oil e.g. garlic oil this works well in this)
