For all those people wondering whether certain Basics items are nice or not then buy them and if they are not your cup of tea then take your reciept and ask for your money back at the Customer Service Desk. They will honour this under the "TRY" scheme which is there to encourage customers to try out Sainsbury's own brand products. It's not advertised much but I know it exists as I work for Sainsbury's. Hope this is useful for all the Basics virgins out there, lol!Council Tax £1,928.85, Fines £90.00, Old Car Tax £267.00, Gas £337.25, Electric £54.42
Car Tax Fine £80.00, B/card Visa £470.85, RBS M/C £759.69, M&S M/C £790.00, B/card M/C £2,592.01, House Ins/Title Deeds £1,573.54, Laptop Finance £578.45, Old Car Ins £85.73, Total debt £9,607.790 -

They say there are 500+ items in the basics range?
Certainly not stocked by our branch and others only randomly available and a different price every time you shop!
My brood like pancakes so I buy a lot of batter mix - 6-9p a bag - add water and an egg - cheaper than half a pint of milk.
In stock so rarely that if I see it I empty the shelf - take note Mr Sainsbug!!!!0 -
Sainsburys own brands??
Three largish bars of white toilet soap = 14p.
Great quality soap, it doesn't go mushy when wet, it foams up nicely, cleans well but gentle even on sensitive skin. Light, pleasant, traditional 'soap' smell....keep your eyes open for these - not sure if they are not often in stock or just sell out really quickly - I buy 4-5 packs whenever I see them on the shelf - unbeatable value!0 -
Done extensive testing on Digestive biscuits and Sainsbury's Basics keep coming out top in blind tests for us - but they have just put the price up from 21p last year to 36p now (in two jumps) which is a little excessive (but not as bad as the one jump from £1 to £3.64 for a large bag of pasta!).
The frozen basics mince is AWFUL do not go there - so much gristle and nasties it's awful.
We have their baked beans, chopped toms, bread (sliced for toast and pittas), packaged mixed peppers, pasta tubes, mozerella ball (one large ball type) rice and they are all great - no idea why you would spend more on chopped toms for eg!. The toliet roll is surprisingly ok as well - yes you do use a little more, and it isn't as velvety soft, but my botty is doing fine on it, and the price is just SO different that it's been a life saver for us at the moment. The basics pre-packaged bananas are actually more expensive than the normal variety in our local big Sainsbury's, so weigh them and beware!!Do not feed the trolls please.0 -

Basics bananas - bananas are bananas in my opinion and these bananas are fine,
basics baked beans - havent tried these yet but they apparently were voted the best in some tast test carried out by 1 of the newspapers0 -
Basics curry sauce (4p) - perfectly OK, although OH added a spoonful of natural yougurt when cooking it, cos he likes it that way.
Basics tomato pasta sauce (23p, I think) - great for spag bol and on its own with pasta
Basics baking potatoes (59p?) - just as good as others and cheaper (per kg) than loose ones
Basics unsweetened soya milk - fine on my porridge.
I've also got a basics sweet and sour sauce (24p?) which Iv'e not tried yet, but if everything else is a guide, should be just fine.
I can also vouch for the basics apple and blackcurrant squash, the basics UHT milk.Debts (incl Mortgage) at LBM (24/09/08) £102849  Now £0. DFD 1st July 20190
